MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF

VERMILION PARISH SCHOOL BOARD September 6, 2001

The School Board met this day in regular session at 216 South Jefferson Street, Abbeville, Louisiana, at 6:00 p.m., with the following members present: Mr. Bill Searle, Mr. Jimmy Vice, Mr. Harold L. Hebert, Sr., Mr. Daniel D. Richard, Mr. Anthony J. Fontana, Jr., Mr. Charles Campbell, Mr. Daleon Primeaux, and Mr. Carroll E. LeBlanc.

Absent: None.

On motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Vice and carried, the following changes were made to the agenda by unanimous consent:

Human Resources Department:

C. 3. a. - Move to enter into executive session to discuss the following:

Instructional Department:

C. 4. a. - Move to approve the 2002 Graduation Schedule as submitted.

On motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Vice and carried, the Board moved agenda item C.1.c. - Move to consider adopting a revised salary schedule for the courier position - to the first item after the executive session.

On motion of Mr. Campbell, seconded by Mr. LeBlanc and carried, the Board adopted agenda items as follows:

Adopted the minutes as transcribed for filing purposes as the official minutes of the Vermilion Parish School Board for the meeting held on August 16, 2001.

Accepted the Treasurer's Report to be placed in appropriate file for reference in preparation of the financial and compliance audit.

Adopted the following resolution as it applies to National 4-H Week:

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The week of October 7 - 13, 2001, is being observed as National 4-H Week; and

WHEREAS, The 4-H Club Program is an educational program for all the youth of Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, 4-H members and leaders ask that all communities, organizations, and schools observe National 4-H Week with appropriate ceremonies for the continued development of the 4-H Program; and

WHEREAS, National 4-H Week is observed throughout the nation since its early beginnings during the 1890's.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the Vermilion Parish School Board does hereby proclaim October 7 - 13, 2001, as National 4-H Week.

Awarded bid for official journal and printer for fiscal year 2001-2002 to the Abbeville Meridional.

On motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. LeBlanc and carried, the Board renewed lease for School Bus Shop effective September 1, 2001, to June 30, 2002, for a monthly rental of $1,600.00. Nay vote recorded: Mr. Searle.

On motion of Mr. Campbell, seconded by Mr. LeBlanc and carried, the Board awarded bid for general liability and fleet insurance for the 2001-2002 policy year to Coregis Insurance Company for a total annual premium of $190,260.00 subject to implementation of loss control recommendations and We Tips Program, as per bid tabulation sheet on file.

On motion of Mr. Richard, seconded by Mr. Vice and carried, the Board accepted a cash donation from the Kaplan Lion’s Club to be used by Forked Island/E. Broussard Elementary School and to direct the Superintendent to send formal appreciation for the donation.

On motion of Mr. LeBlanc, seconded by Mr. Hebert and carried, the Board entered into executive session to discuss the follow-ing:

Personnel

Expelled Gueydan High School Student.

On motion of Mr. Campbell, seconded by Mr. Fontana and carried, the Board reconvened into regular session.

On motion of Mr. Fontana, seconded by Mr. Primeaux and carried, the Board adopted revised salary schedule for the courier position. (copy on file)

On motion of Mr. Fontana, seconded by Mr. Campbell and carried, the Board extended the application deadline for the courier position by 10 days due to the salary change for the position. Nay vote recorded: Mr. Searle

On motion of Mr. Campbell, seconded by Mr. Richard and carried, the Board accepted the following personnel change list and addendum as presented and recommended by the Superintendent:

effective September 7, 2001, through June 2, 2002 only -replaces Frances Lynn Moss, who was appointed to another position

Rabon, Bobby - Abbeville High - Science Teacher - effective September 7, 2001, through January 6, 2002 only -replaces Suzanne Touchet, who was granted an emergency sabbatical

Tran, Diem Duy Thi - Eaton Park Elementary - Bilingual Aide

-effective August 21, 2001 - replaces Anh Nguyen, who resigned

On motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Primeaux and carried, the Board approved the 2002 Graduation Schedule as submitted with the stipulation that next year’s graduation dates will be presented to the Board with the 2002-2003 school calendar and that graduation dates will not interfere with national speech tournament dates or any other co-curricular student activity. Nay votes recorded: Mr. Fontana and Mr. Campbell.

On motion of Mr. LeBlanc, seconded by Mr. Vice and carried, the Board added the color red for school uniform shirts and place in the student dress code.

On motion of Mr. LeBlanc, seconded by Mr. Fontana and carried, the Board adjourned the Regular Meeting #4 at 8:04 p.m.
