GETTING STARTED WITH ABSTRACT PAINTING

Many artists are drawn to abstract painting but are stymied at how to begin. This course will help artists “find a way in” to painting from the imagination or working from an outside refer-ence. We will discuss the advantages of working abstractly as well as learning techniques for starting. The student will learn several approaches to starting a painting or drawing. No paint-ing experience is necessary. Brpaint-ing a water container. A $12 cash supply fee, payable to the instructor, is due at the beginning of the first class session.

BEGINNING ACRYLIC PAINTING

The advantages of painting with acrylics are many: They can be used as thinned washes like water-color or applied more thickly like oils. They can be applied on canvas or paper. Artists can take advan-tage of the paint’s quick-drying nature or extend their drying time. It is the go-to paint for mixed me-dia art. There are no fumes and it cleans up with soap and water. Perfect! This course is for first-time painters or those wishing to try a new medium. Some prior art experience, such as drawing, will be helpful but is NOT required. For the first class meeting, students only need to bring a notebook and pen; supplies and resources will be discussed at that time. This instructor teaches in a way that stress-es procstress-ess and materials rather than product. No class November 11.
