Oath of Office Roll Call Approval of Minutes from August 6, 2013 Additions and Deletions Open Session Approval of Budget Transfers Regular Meeting

Jamestown City School District BOARD OF EDUCATION

Administration Building August 20, 2013

Mr. DiMaio called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the board room at 197 Martin Road.

Mrs. Caronia administered the Oath of Office for Superintendent of Schools to Mr. Mains.

Mr. DiMaio asked for the roll call:

Board of Education: Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Lucas, Mr. Slagle, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Pope (via Skype), Mr. DiMaio

Administrative Staff: Mr. Mains, Mr. Weatherlow, Ms. Joy, Mr. Panebianco, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Sandstrom

Minutes of the August 6th meeting were presented for approval. Motion was made by Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mrs. Lucas. The motion passed unanimously.

Mr. DiMaio asked if there were any additions or deletions to the agenda. Mr. Mains asked to add Executive Session for Particular Personnel and a Personnel addendum.

Mr. DiMaio announced Open Session. There was no one.

Mr. Weatherlow read the following resolution:

Motion was made by Mrs. Lucas, seconded by Mr. Slagle,

Mr. Panebianco read the following resolution:

Mr. Mains called the boards attention to the revised Board of Education Meeting calendar that was distributed.

Mr. Mains read the following resolution:

WHEREAS, Part 100.11 of the Commissioner’s Regulations calls for the creation of Shared Decision Making teams (SDM) in every school, and

WHEREAS, guidance for the composition and functioning for said SDM teams is the responsibility of the Board of Education, and

WHEREAS, the Board of Education in Policy #3240 called for the establishment of guidelines and the promulgation of regulations governing Jamestown’s SDM’s, and WHEREAS, said regulations need to be completed prior to the beginning of school year 2013-2014,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education directs it’s Superintendent to convene all requisite parties to draft proposed regulations that the new Superintendent shall announce and implement for school year 2013-14 and beyond.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the board review the SDM regulations in the summer of 2015 and subsequently on a 2 year basis.

The policy on Pediculosis that had been pulled for review at the July 23rd meeting will be brought back to the board at the next meeting as the first reading of the policy.

Mr. Mains congratulated Tina and Jessie on the expert job they did at the administrative retreat. Hats off the administrative team. Feedback was very positive .

Anyone interested in attending the NYSSBA Convention in Rochester in October should let Mrs. Caronia know as soon as possible.

There being no further business, motion was made by Mr. Abbott, seconded by Mrs. Lucas to adjourn to Executive Session at 7:17 p.m. Motion carried.

There being no further business, motion was made by Mr. Abbott, seconded by Mr. Johnson to adjourn the meeting at 7:42 p.m. Motion carried.
