Other comments, actions and items to follow up after the initial planning meeting New courses/cross-school collaboration

It was noted that there was to be cross-school collaboration with SAD and possibly STech, although the latter was yet to be confirmed, for the MSc Innovation and Enterprise course. It was also pointed out that the department had been approached to provide modules for other schools.

Action: Developmental Lead to confirm with the Associate Dean, Quality Enhancement:

• the involvement of STech in the proposal for MSc Innovation and

Enterprise;

• cross-school modules being developed for other schools’ courses.

Response: Confirmed that there would be no involvement from other Schools. Curriculum Design Meetings

These will be held w/c 8th November 2010 and will include discussion of Learning and Teaching / Assessment / engagement with students etc. The meetings should include all members of the Developmental Team, where possible and be chaired by the Developmental Lead. The External Adviser should be invited to this meeting and if unable to attend asked to contribute by

correspondence. It was noted that Developmental Leads should also engage ILE/LIS/Registry in curriculum development activities. ILE in particular were keen to offer advice/staff development.

Action: Developmental Lead to inform the Officer of the date of the meeting in order to include in the contract letter to the External Adviser.

Developmental Leads to approach ILE for any advice/staff development needs.

Training on e:Vision / WOLF

Training sessions on e:Vision will be held on 17th and 19th November 2010. It is the intention that these will be drop-in sessions for Module Leaders to input module details onto e:Vision.

Framework

Option 2, delivering 20 credit modules in 3x 9 week blocks to be submitted to Academic Board in November 2010. The dissertation would be 60 credits, of which an element, i.e. 20 credits, could be taught, possibly “Research Methods”. How the dissertation would fit into the framework was yet to be confirmed, but a possible scenario was that work on the dissertation would begin in block 2, (students undertaking the taught element at this point, with block 3 for supervision from the tutor and the summer period to complete). This should be taken into consideration when designing courses.

General Comments

The course and module specifications are generally considered and well-presented. The standards with which these courses are benchmarked against are consistent with postgraduate studies at Masters Level. The module information is sufficient to provide an overview of course content, which is helpful in articulating and communicating how each module would be delivered.

There is a clear and well-articulated Learning, Teaching and Assessment approach that incorporates a variety of learning and assessment activities. The use of blended learning is consistent across modules. Further, it is clear how employability and professional skills are embedded. The overall design of curriculum is conducive to encourage deep learning in students and lead students to relate theory to practice.

For the provision included in the above process record, I can confirm that academic standards are set at the appropriate levels and that the course structure, content and available resources are such that standards can be met.

Furthermore the provision has benefitted from external views during the planning and development process.

For the provision included in the above process record, I can confirm that • due process has been carried out

• the provision conforms to relevant regulatory requirements • the provision conforms to relevant external requirements

• the provision has benefited from external views during the planning and development process

General Comments

The process was comprehensively conducted and the views of all relevant

stakeholders were considered and debated. As a result several changes were made which will undoubtedly improve the academic provision through the Awards. A robust procedure was followed and staff effectively engaged with the process. The views of external stakeholders and the wider business community were fed into the debate which should ensure that the awards are fit for purpose, from the client perspective. Overall I am happy that a rigorous, professional and fair process was undertaken and that the views of all relevant stakeholders were accommodated.

Please use this section to highlight good practice and feedback on the

developmental process (This may include engagement with staff and the use of the

University’s online systems eg. WOLF and e:Vision)

Effective use of online support which streamlined the production of documentation. Engagement of key academic staff in the process.

Excellent support from knowledgeable administrative staff
