Citrus County was named after its Citrus Groves that surround it.
It was first named in 1887, when it was originally part of Hernando County.

The population of Citrus County as of 2009 was 140,357. From
April 1st 2000 to July 1st 2009 the population increased by 18.9%.
With that increase that means the population in 2000 was 113,829.
Citrus County is not considered to be an urbanized area because
