Key Accomplishments In Undergraduate

Education •Rebuilt the advising network at FAU for undergraduate students targeting Boren, Gilman and Fulbright grants for study abroad, and creating our own OIP study abroad scholarship program

2 •Created 4 year “Go Global Give Local Program” at FAU which enrolled cohorts of

freshmen each year in a Freshman Learning Community, and engaged them in a series of service learning projects in Florida and while abroad (terminated due to budget cuts) •Located and built new exchange and direct enroll options for FAU students in multiple countries (e.g. England, Spain, Italy, France, China, Japan, Israel, India, Turkey and Thailand)

•Helped FAU faculty create new faculty led programs in brain science computer interface, engineering, architecture, urban planning, nursing, and social work •Helped write and manage the Dept. of Education Asian Studies grant ($200,000) to develop undergraduate courses and faculty research projects at FAU (2009-2013) •Created the new domestic away study option for FAU students with Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire

•Strengthened the International Studies Major (BA degree) at UW-Madison

•Secured recurring federal grant support to enhance undergraduate courses for East Asian, European, Middle East and Global Studies at UW-Madison

•Secured new annual state funds of $350,000 for new undergraduate International Education initiatives at the UW-Madison

•Created study abroad internships for UW Madison students at the Japan Central Railway

•Created the Diplomat in Residence Program at UW Madison which hosted Swiss Ambassador Alfred Defago in the International Studies Major for 10 years

Key Accomplishments In Graduate

Education •Built abroad programs for FAU graduate students from diverse fields including arts and letters, education, engineering, chemistry, architecture, nursing, social work and urban planning

•Helped create a new International Visiting Professorship for the PhD in Comparative Studies at FAU (2007-2009)

•Advised on the creation of a new Double Degree Program in graduate engineering fields for FAU and the University of Tokushima, Japan

•Advised on the development of a new MS in Global Health and Bioethics at FAU (canceled due to budget cuts)

•Raised annual funding for UW-Madison graduate students through the Department of Education FLAS Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships (NRCs and FLAS funding) •Created several graduate focused global programs that became constitutent members of the UW-Madison International Institute (research circles, European Union Center and Midwest Center for German and European Studies)

Member of the planning group and current coordinating manager for the new ”Program for Academic Readiness” (PAR) program which creates a linked conditional admission and intensive English program for talented international students seeking FAU degrees; PAR was launched in Fall 2013 with a starting cohort of students from Brazil, South Korea and Russia (2012-date); PAR now serves Navitas students in the first Level A for those who need intensive English.

Invited to serve on the Provost Office ad hoc committee on recruiting students from Latin America

Coordinated institutional partnership development activities for FAU highlighted by two major efforts: (a) participation in the IIE India Initiative in 2010 and 2011, and (b) the development of new ties and delegation travel to Turkey in 2013-2014 (see grants section)

Member of the QEP committee on co-curricular activities to promote research and inquiry in study abroad programs, and the Strategic Plan sub-committee for measuring aspects of experiential learning activities such as study abroad (2013-2015)

--Istanbul Cultural Center of South Florida and the Turkish American Chamber of Commerce support for the September 2013 FAU 10 person delegation travel to Turkey for university partnership exploration; a second delegation of 8 faculty and staff

supported in June 2014; travel support in-country was worth approximately $50,000 for both delegations.

--2010-2012 US Department of Education Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Languages (UISFL) $200,000 curriculum grant for Asian Studies at FAU, member of team to write the grant and OIP office is managing some grant activities (grant was reduced to $150,000 in 2011 due to federal budget cuts)

--2010 Institute for International Education (IIE) IAPP India Initiative $5,500 grant for Dr. Meschievitz to travel in the IAPP India Study Tour in November 2010; FAU was one of ten schools selected to participate in 2010-2011 to help develop new strategic

partnerships in India; Dr. Meschievitz coordinated the process and the FAU India Task Force
