THE OPENING TIP

Utah finished the season 40-42, two wins above their total in 2014-15.

On 4/13, Gordon Hayward tied Bryon Russell for second in Jazz history for three-pointers made (540). Utah played in a franchise-high 10 overtime games with a record of 5-5, including 4-2 at home.

Utah held 16 of its last 23 opponents under 100 points. The Jazz are 37-13 overall when holding opponents under the century mark. Utah had nine wins in March, the most in a month this season. Last season, the Jazz had 10 wins in March.

Utah tied a team record for largest margin of victory (48) with the 123-75 win over Los Angeles on 3/28. Utah finished 24-17 in the regular season at home. The Jazz are 16-24 on the road.

Rudy Gobert ranked third in the NBA with 2.2 blocks per game. He is seventh in total blocks (135). DEFENSIVE IDENTITY

Utah has built a defensive powerhouse under head coach Quin Snyder. Since the start of the 2014-15 season, the Jazz lead the league in games where their opponents score 90 points or less with 57 total. The team holds a 50-7 record in those games. Recently, the Jazz have held 10 of their last 15 opponents to 90 or less.

GETTING DEFENSIVE

Utah leads the league in points per game allowed since March 1, holding opponents to just 92.2 points during that span. Utah is one of five teams holding opponents under 100 points per game in that span.

The Jazz held Phoenix to a season-low and Utah opponent season-low of 69 points on 3/17, while holding the Lakers to their second lowest output of the season (75 on 3/28). The Lakers lowest total came earlier in the season against the Jazz (74 on 1/10). HOLY MACKEREL

Shelvin Mack has recorded the only three points-assists double-doubles this season for the Jazz. Prior to joining Utah, Mack had only recorded two in 247 career games played. The last Jazzman with a points-assists double-double was Trey Burke (13 points, 11 assists) who accomplished the feat on 12/15/14 vs. Orlando.

Mack has flirted with a triple-double as well: 3/14 vs. Cleveland (17 pts, 10 asts, 7 rebs) and 3/17 vs. Phoenix (15 pts, 10 asts, 8 rebs). The last Jazzman with a triple-double was Carlos Boozer (22 pts, 11 rebs, 10 asts) at Seattle on 2/13/08.

BUCKETS, BOARDS AND BLOCKS

Rudy Gobert was one of four players in the NBA that averaged at least 9.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. The others doing so include Anthony Davis, DeAndre Jordan, Hassan Whiteside and Pau Gasol.

WHEN HAYWARD SCORES 20

Gordon Hayward scored 20+ points in 53.8 percent of his games this season (43 of 80). He set a personal best of 39 games with 20+ points in a season with 22 against Minnesota on 4/1. The Jazz were 23-20 in games where he hits the 20 point mark in 2015-16. 90 PTS OR LESS (since 2014-15) TEAM GAMES Utah 57 San Antonio 54 Atlanta 43 Memphis 41 Indiana 41

PUTTING IN OVERTIME

On 4/8 vs. Los Angeles Clippers, the Jazz played their 10th overtime game which is a franchise record for most OT games in season. The previous record was eight during the 2005-06 season. The Jazz set the record on 3/30 vs. Golden State. Utah holds a 5-5 record in overtime, including a 4-2 mark at home. Their five wins match the record for a season previously set in 2005-06 and 2010-11. Five of Utah’s overtime games this season came within a 16-game span from 1/18-2/23. The Jazz are 85-73 all-time in overtime games.

RECORDS FOR ROD

Hood had a half for the ages against the Lakers on 3/28, knocking down eight of his nine three-point attempts and going 11-for-13 in a 30-point first half. He is the first Jazzman to score 30 in a half since Paul Millsap (31) on 11/9/10 at Miami. His eight threes in a game tied a franchise record, while his eight first half threes broke Randy Foye’s record of seven set on 3/30/13 vs. Brooklyn.

THREE-POINT BARRAGE

Utah set a team record with 17 made three-pointers (17-32 3FG) against the Los Angeles Lakers on 3/28. Earlier this season the Jazz tied the previous record (15) three times: 15-for-45* at Charlotte on 1/18/16, 15-for-33 against Portland on 12/31/15 and 15-for-36 at Sacramento on 12/8/15. Utah is 4-2 all-time when making 15+ three pointers.

*The 45 three-point attempts at Charlotte on 1/18/16 set the franchise record. The previous high was 39 at Minnesota on 12/30/15. AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Rodney Hood tied for third amongst second year players in scoring average since Jan. 1. During that span, Hood is averaging 16.0 points on 43.0 percent shooting from the field. He is also shooting 38.5 percent on 3-pointers (117-304 3FG) and 86.3 percent on free throws (113-131 FT). Hood has had 13 games of 20+ points since Jan. 1. For the entire season, Hood ranked third amongst second year players with 14.5 points per game

WASATCH FRONT

Since Derrick Favors returned to the starting lineup on 1/29, Utah’s frontcourt of Favors and Rudy Gobert was formidable at the rim. Gobert ranked fourth in the NBA in total blocks in that span with 70, while Favors is seventh (61). The duo tied for second for most blocked shots combined for teammates during that span with 131.

YOUTH MOVEMENT

The Jazz are young and inexperienced. Utah has the lowest average of service years on the roster in the NBA at 2.33. Rookies are considered to have 0 years. No player on the Utah roster has more than 5 years of service.

Utah has a combined age of 24.308 years to be the youngest team in the NBA. 10 of the 15 players on the Jazz roster are under 25. (Info via Elias Sports Bureau, 4/11)

RELIABLE RODNEY

During the 2015-16 season, Rodney Hood’s forte was

Gordon Hayward joins four other players in the NBA to have 4,000 points, 1,000 assists, 1,000 rebounds and 300 three-point field goals since 2013-14. During the span, Hayward has 4,289 points, 1,009 assists, 1,161 rebounds and 348 three-pointers. Also on the list is Golden State’s Stephen Curry (6,148/1,812/1,105/949), Houston’s James Harden (6,444/1,623/1,304/621), Cleveland’s LeBron James (5,752/1,513/1,514/323) and Toronto’s Kyle Lowry (4,295/1,553/1,062/534).

THE TWO TOWERS

Jazz bigs Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert have both been in the starting lineup 46 times (25-21 record) this season. In those games, Favors averages 16.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while Gobert averages 9.0 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. SALT LOCK CITY

The Jazz have continued their defensive prowess into the 2015-16 season, ranking second or higher in several opponent categories. Utah is second in opponent points per game (95.9) and those points have not come as easy as the team has held opponents to a league-low 19.1 assists per game. Opponents aren’t getting many looks either, as the squad is second in opponent field goals attempted (79.9) and first in opponent field goals made (35.6). The Jazz are also cleaning up on the glass, holding opponents to a league-best 40.1 rebounds total.

FAVORS AND HAYWARD ON THE RISE

Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward are two of the three active players to increase their scoring average in six straight seasons. The other is DeAndre Jordan, who has done it over the last eight seasons. (Info via Elias Sports Bureau)

CARRY ON HAYWARD SON

Gordon Hayward has been a key contributor for the Jazz this season. Hayward has improved statistically from the first 20 games of the season. Overall he is averaging 19.7 points on 43.4 percent shooting, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He has scored 20+ points in 43 games this season. Hayward leads the team in points, assists, and minutes (36.2).

GOBERT’S HISTORIC NIGHT

Rudy Gobert had then season-highs of 18 points and 18 rebounds to go with five blocks in Utah’s 1/16 win vs. LAL, becoming the second player in the NBA to do so this season (Andre Drummond, 11/25/15 vs. MIA, 18 points, 20 rebounds, 5 blocks). Gobert is the first Jazzman since Rich Kelley (4/5/79) for the New Orleans Jazz vs. Detroit and the first Jazz player to do so while in Utah. (Info via Elias Sports Bureau)

SALT LAKE CITY STARS

On April 4, 2016, Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment and the NBA Development League announced that the Idaho Stampede, the NBA D-League team owned and operated by the Utah Jazz, will relocate to Salt Lake City beginning with the 2016-17 season. The team will be known as the Salt Lake City Stars, paying tribute to its American Basketball Association roots from 1970-76 when the Utah Stars won the league championship in 1971, and to the Utah Starzz, the WNBA team based in Salt Lake City from 1997-2002. The Salt Lake City Stars will play their home games at Salt Lake Community College, located less than 10 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. The 5,000-seat Lifetime Activities Center-Bruin Arena on Redwood Road has been the previous site of the Rocky Mountain Revue NBA Summer League.

THE JOE INGLES SHOW ON 1280 THE ZONE

In its second year, “The Joe Ingles Show” will air Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. during 2015-16 season. Ingles will be on-air with David James and Patrick Kinahan on the “DJ & PK Morning Show”. Joe’s insight on the game and his humorous personality make it a can’t-miss weekly segment. “Slo-Mo Joe is smart and funny,” host Kinahan said. “No one else can tell you the things he knows about the Utah Jazz.”

COMMUNITY CORNER

On April 7, the Utah Jazz and Mountain America Credit Union presented The Bradley Center for Grieving Children and Families with a $5,000 donation. The Bradley Center is this season’s sixth recipient of “Pass It Along,” a program featuring fan nomination opportunities that rewards local charitable organizations with $5,000 each.

The Utah Jazz and TeamSmile partnered together to provide 300 underprivileged youth with complimentary dental care. On April 7, fourth through sixth-grade students from the Salt Lake City School District received cleanings, x-rays and fillings from volunteer dental professionals. The services were provided in a fun and non-threatening environment with the hopes of educating the children on good dental hygiene.

Gordon Hayward is being featured in the second season of the LeanInTogether public awareness campaign in partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). The Utah Jazz and Vivint Gives Back hosted Autism Awareness Night on Friday, April 1 at Vivint Smart Home Arena. Vivint Gives Back donated 600 tickets to the game for families with children on the autism spectrum. Jazz players Alec Burks, Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward and Joe Ingles also donated their blocks of tickets to local schools and non-profit groups that work with autistic children. More than 25 youth with autism stood with members of the Jazz and Timberwolves during the National Anthem. During the third quarter, a moment of celebration took place for all families in attendance that have been touched by autism.

CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) made a $10,000 donation to the Utah STEM Action Center during halftime of the April 1 game. The contribution will support STEM’s efforts to promote the best educational practices in math and science studies that align with industry needs and support Utah’s long-term economic prosperity. Also recognized was Ogden High School senior Melissa Hernandez, April’s winner for the CenturyLink STEM Excellence Award. During the 2015-16 regular season, one student was recognized each month by CenturyLink based on his or her excellence or significant improvement in science, technology, engineering or math and participation in STEM programs. Getting Ac-QUIN-ted

Quin Snyder became the eighth head coach in Utah Jazz history, and only the fifth since the franchise moved to Utah in 1979, on June 6, 2014. With over 20 years of coaching experience, and 10 years of head coaching experience, Snyder has sat beside some of the game’s most respected names and has coached in all walks of basketball life, including the NCAA, the NBA Developmental League, the EuroLeague and the NBA. Snyder most recently comes to Utah from the Atlanta Hawks, where he was an assistant to Head Coach Mike Budenholzer. From 2007-10, Snyder was the head coach of the Developmental League’s Austin Toros (the D-League affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs). With the Toros, Snyder garnered a 94-56 (.627) record, seeing the playoffs each year and advancing to at least the D-League Semifinals every season.

In Snyder’s inaugural season, he inherited a team that had gone 21-29 the year before and flipped the script guiding the Toros to a 30-20 record, a Southwest Division Title and an appearance in the 2008 D-League Championship game. In 2009, Snyder was named the Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year. During his three seasons in Austin, Snyder sent more players to the NBA and won more games than any other D-League coach.
