A step-by-step setup procedure for Hardware Configuration

between Siemens PLC S7 and IAI controllers for PROFIBUS

Version 4 / 01.11.2019

Note: The procedure will be shown with the following devices. PLC: SIMATIC S7-300 (CPU 314C-2DP) Model: 314-6CF01-0AB0

Software: SIMATIC Manager (STEP 7 HW Configuration tool)

1. Parameter setting of IAI controller

IAI controller needs to be set up properly in the parameter setting before starting the Hardware Configuration of the PLC.

The procedure of the parameter setting in detail depends on the controller model.

Configuration of IAI controller can be done in the PC Interface Software with the communication cable. The parameters must be set for PROFIBUS communication as follows. Please refer to the operation manual for details.

1-1: CON controllers (Example for PCON-CB controller)

PCON-, ACON-, DCON- und SCON controllers

(PCON-CB/CGB/CFB/CGFB/CA/CFA/C/CG-PR, ACON-CB/CGB/CA/C/CG-PR, DCON-CB/CGB/CA-PR and SCON-CB/CGB/CA/CAL/CGAL-PR)

(* SCON-C is not applicable)

Parameters 84, 85, 86, 87, 90 and 159 must be changed according to requirements.

Note: The parameter setting above is not same for all controllers. Please refer to the operation manual for details.

i.Parameter No. 84 (Fieldbus operation mode)

Set the parameter No. 84 to a value between 0 and 4 according to the required operation mode. This setting is not only for selecting of the operation mode of the controller, but also is important to get a primary factor of the amount of input and output memory for the PROFIBUS interface.

ii. Parameter No. 85 (Fieldbus node address)

Specify the slave number of the IAI controller in the parameter No. 85. Setting range: 0 to 125 (The factory setting is “1”.)

Note: It is usually used from “3” as a slave address number.

iii. Parameter No. 86 (Fieldbus baud rate)

The baud rate is automatically set according to the corresponding setting on the master side.

iv. Parameter No. 87 (Network type)

Specify the network type in the parameter No. 87.

Note: Do not change the default value.

v. Parameter No. 90 (Fieldbus I/O format)

By changing of the value of the parameter No. 90, the data of up to 2 words can be swapped in units of byte before transmission within the range of communication with the PLC’s I/O addresses.

vi. Parameter No. 159 (FB Half Direct Mode Speed Unit)

Select the speed unit for Half Direct Mode in the parameter No. 159.

Note: This parameter setting is only available for PCON-CB/CGB/CFB/CGFB/CA/CFA,

1-2: ROBONET controller

If you use ROBONET controller, you need to configure the gateway unit by using“Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool”.

Please see the detail relating to the setup in each manual. ROBONET gateway unit (RGW-PR)

Open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool by selecting “ROBONET”.

When you open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool, click the “Read” button to see the current setting.

It is required to modify the setting to suit for the application. Ex.) Slave address of the ROBONET controller: “3”

Number of axes: “6”

Operation mode: “Full numeric direct mode” (“Full”) for all axes

After completing the set up, click the “Write” button to transfer into the gateway unit of the controller. Confirm whether the pop-up warning information is correct as you require.

Note: An even number will be assigned for each axis as the axis number for the full numeric direct mode (in the example case, axis number 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 for 6 axes).

Address setting needs to be done also at each controller with the rotary switch separately.

1-3: MSCON controller

If you use MSCON controller, you need to configure the controller by using“Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool”.

Please see the detail relating to the setup in each manual. MSCON controller (MSCON-C-PR)

Open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool by selecting “MSCON”.

When you open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool, click the “Read” button to see the current setting.

It is required to modify the setting to suit for the application. Ex.) Slave address of the MSCON controller: “3”

Number of axes: “6”

Operation mode: “Full numeric direct mode 1” (“Direct Indication1”) for all axes

After completing the set up, click the “Write” button to transfer into the gateway unit of the controller. Confirm whether the pop-up warning information is correct as you require.

After reading the setting from the gateway unit automatically, if the parameter setting you have done is not correct, please set the parameter again correctly.

1-4: MSEP controller

If you use MSEP controller, you need to configure the controller by using

MSEP controller (MSEP-C-PR)

1-4-1: PC Interface Software

Open the PC Interface Software. Select “Initial setting for SEP controller”

Select the axis number, for which you want to configure the operation mode. Click “OK”.

When “I/O pattern select” screen appears, select the operation mode. i) In case ofother than “SEP I/O mode”

Select the “Positioner Mode” (below in red color) ii) In case of“SEP I/O mode”

Select one of the I/O patterns from “Standard” to “Auto Drive” (below in green color).

Note: If a Field network type of MSEP (PROFIBUS, PROFINET, ...) is used in a “SEP I/O mode”, it is same operation as a PIO type. Please see the detail in the manual for each operation mode.

Click “OK”.

Note:

1. You need to configure this I/O pattern select for all axes.

2. It is not available to have a combination of one of “SEP I/O mode” and “Positionier mode”. You must choose the same mode for all axes.

Open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool by selecting “MSEP”.

When you open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool, click the “Read” button to see the current setting.

It is required to modify the setting to suit for the application. Ex.) Slave address of the MSEP controller: “3”

Number of axes: “6”

Operation mode: “Full numeric direct mode” (“Full”) for all axes

After completing the set up, click the “Write” button to transfer into the gateway unit of the controller. Confirm whether the pop-up warning information is correct as you require.

Note: In case of “SEP I/O Mode”, just only 2) should be used. 1) and 2) cannot be used at the same time.

If you use MCON controller, you need to configure the controller by using“Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool”.

Please see the detail relating to the setup in each manual. MCON controller (MCON-C/CG-PR)

When you open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool, click the “Read” button to see the current setting.

When you open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool, click the “Read” button to see the current setting.

It is required to modify the setting to suit for the application. Ex.) Slave address of the RCON controller: “3”

1-7: RCM gateway

If you use RCM gateway, you need to configure the gateway by using“Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool”.

Please see the detail relating to the setup in each manual. RCM gateway (RCM-P6GW/P6GWG-PR)

Open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool by selecting “RCP6 GW”.

When you open the Gateway Parameter Configuration Tool, click the “Read” button to see the current setting.

It is required to modify the setting to suit for the application. Ex.) Slave address of the RCM gateway: “3”

Number of axes: “6”

Operation mode: “Full numeric direct mode” (“Direct Indication1”) for all axes

After completing the set up, click the “Write” button to transfer into the gateway. Confirm whether the Important information to configure

2. Siemens PLC Hardware Configuration

GSD file

At first, it is required to install the appropriate GSD file for the IAI controller to configure the PLC. There are some GSD files depending on the controller types.

Note: If any application window is open, it is not possible to install GSD files.

After completing the parameter setting at the IAI controller, proceed to “Hardware Configuration for the master unit”.

2-1: Hardware Configuration for the master unit

Open SIMATIC Manager to create a new project file.

Type the project name and close the window with “OK”.

Select the project set previously (in the example: “setup process”) and then push the right button of the mouse.

In the pop-up menus, select “Insert New Object” and the station used currently (Ex. “SIMATIC 300 Station”).

Icon of SIMATIC 300 will be created.

Click the SIMATIC 300 module and then double-click the “Hardware” icon.

A new Hardware Configuration screen will be shown.

Push the right button of the mouse in the upper empty area of the window and then select “Insert Object”. After that, select the menus shown in the following pictures to create the PLC specification.

Select the appropriate devices used currently in the catalog.

Each slot in the rack is dedicated to a specific function, which depends on the PLC model. (See the detail of the specification in the PLC manual)

- Power supply unit

- CPU unit

Note: If you drag and drop the device into a wrong slot, you will get a waning message.

Once you bring the CPU unit into the slots, Properties setting for the PLC will be shown. Set the address of the PLC as the master and click “New”.

Note: The address of PLC is normally set to “2”.

Confirm that a new PROFIBUS subnet has been created and then click “OK” to complete the procedure.

2-2: Hardware Configuration for IAI controller as a slave unit

Select the appropriate device name for the IAI controller from the catalog. It is located in the “Additional Field Devices” - “General” folder.

Set the address of the IAI controller as a slave unit and click “OK”. Drag and drop

After setting the slave address for the IAI controller, the slave unit will be attached to the system connection line.

At the same time, the I/O mapping table will be shown in the bottom area. You can confirm also the device name in this window.

Drag and drop the appropriate I/O module from the catalog.

Note: The total area of I/O module needs to match the operation mode, which you have selected at the IAI controller.

Ex.) For CON controllers

Operation mode: Remote I/O mode (Parameter No. 84: “0”) Total number of occupied bytes: 2 bytes (for each IN and OUT)

Ex.) For ROBONET/MSCON/MSEP/MCON/RCON controllers and RCM gateway Number of axes: “6”

Operation mode: “Full numeric direct mode (1)” (“Full” or “Direct Indication1”) for all axes

Set the start address of the I/O module which depends on the PLC specification to suit your system. Otherwise, a communication error will occur.

Double click on each slot where you want to modify the I/O address manually. Then click “OK”.

Note: Please use proper areas of the Process Image for input and output of the PLC. Otherwise, a communication error will occur.

Note: It is also possible to use “Universal module” to configure the I/O area for some controller types. In case that no connection can be established with the controller type being used, please use another module (ex. “Input 1 word”, “Output 1 byte” etc.).

After configuration, you will be able to compile the Hardware Configuration and transfer the setting into the PLC.

Turn the MANU/AUTO switch on IAI controller back to AUTO.

After uploading the Hardware Configuration into the PLC successfully, the connection between PLC and IAI controller will be established automatically.
