RESEARCH INTERESTS

My current research activity embraces the field of competitive strategies and aims at understanding which business models firms may implement to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. More specifically, my research analyzes how firms can exploit technological and marketing capabilities to develop new products, build an environmentally-concerned reputation, or commercialize technological knowledge. Related to this, I am also interested in the topic of intellectual property rights (IPRs): on the one hand, an effective management of IPRs’ portfolio supports firms’ competitive strategies; on the other, the capability to analyse patent-related information allows firms to better define in which technological trajectory to invest and, ultimately, which innovation strategies to pursue. A specific context in which I am used to apply such a research approach is that of high-tech start-ups (e.g. academic spin-off companies), because the integration of marketing and technological capabilities is often a critical driver of market success and growth for this category of firms. Related to the topic of IPRs, I am also interested in analysing how luxury firms employ property rights to contrast counterfeiting.
