We are back from our Footsteps of St. Paul trip to Greece and Turkey, and people are asking

“How was it?”  It was amazing, exhausting, inspiring, and overwhelming. Moving 38 intrepid travelers through Greece and Turkey with COVID restrictions and complicated government forms is not for the faint of heart.

A last-minute change in our itinerary meant extra long days on a bus (without a bathroom), some early hotel departures, and 50 minute  run through the Istanbul airport through

“passport control” and the departure gate farthest from our arrival gate.  But along the way we visited Athens, Corinth, Philippi, Thessalonika and Ephesus. (Caption: our group in front of the Library of Celsus in Ephesus). We experienced first-hand the world in which Paul ministered and walked some of the very streets where he preached and debated.  In Philippi we went to the river in which Lydia, the first Christian convert in Asia Minor, was baptized.

And there beside the river, we watched one of our travelers do American Sign as we sang How Great Thou Art. We heard a heart- warming testimony of another traveler, then shared the bread and wine of communion.

New friendships were forged, faith stories shared, songs sung, tears shed, and laughter resounded.  After all is said and done, and everyone arrived home safe and sound and COVID-free, it was a wonderful, life-deepening  experience, second, however, to the joy of being home in our own beds and among our Victory family!

M ONEY FOR M ISSIONS !

We have an exciting opportunity at Victory to make a big difference in the lives of those served through Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission! This ministry among the Navajo people in Rock Point, AZ, has long been supported by Victory. NELM was started sixty-five years ago and is currently led by Kate Adelman, Executive Director and Pastor, and a former staff member at Victory.  Pastor Kate recently told us about great needs at the mission, and our Council has set a goal of $90,000 to fund major capital improvements on their campus.

HEREISALISTOFSOMEOFTHECURRENTPRIORITIESFOR NELM

TOSEEWHEREYOURDONATIONSWILL GO:

Concrete loading ramp for the Food Bank - $3,400 School kitchen appliance upgrade - $9,000

Mission office remodel - $10,000 Mission office HVAC replacement - $18,000

School HVAC replacement - $36,500

Concrete driveways and safety features for water distribution area - $8,000

The VLC Church Council has committed $30,000 from the sale of an estate gift to be used as the foundation for this capital campaign, so we are already 1/3 of the way toward our goal! Whether you can match that number or give a few dollars, we know God has given the members and friends of Victory generous hearts and we anticipate a great response to this year-end challenge!  You can contribute any way that is most convenient, simply designate “Navajo Fund”

on your gift. Together we can continue to grow the ministry of NELM and further the mission of Victory by “being and making disciples for Jesus Christ.”
