2.0 Changes in Memo/UPP 7.1.1.
2.1 Changes in UPP 7.1.1 compared to UPP 6.7.1.
This release of Memo/UPP contains enhancements as well as corrections to reported errors. All errors corrected in this release are documented in the SOURCE library member ÅPTF711. The enhancements are briefly described below.
For changes in earlier releases of Memo/UPP, refer to corresponding Release Notes..
Note: This release of Memo/UPP supports "Base" versions of the Memo Server up to 7.1.3.
This is UPP release 7.1.1 and the previous release is UPP 6.7.1. There are no other releases in between.
The utility package has not had to be updated much over the BASE releases 6.8, 6.9 and 7.1 and the reason for this is that the basic facts have not changed much. Thus the results of these UPP programs are the same more or less. Some programs have however become obsolete over the time and these are no longer part of the package.
There are some fixes that have been applied but these are mainly in the
Export/Import programs when run for very large installations. Since only two cus- tomers have stumbled on these errors and the corrections have been made swiftly there are no specific list of bugs fixed. As of now there are no reported errors in UPP programs on UPP711 level.
UPP has almost always been in synchronization with MEMO/BASE when it comes to functionality and from that perspective UPP still is. BASE has however gone through internal changes which are found in the way programs are inititated with the macro HLPINIT and in the way control is passed between modules. As UPP relies on some BASE modules for services these modules have been specially adopted and are now part of the UPP OBJ library. It is therefore so that when a UPP program is to be linked the only necessary OBJ library is XXXXXX.UPP711.OBJ, and of course your own should you have one. The point is that no BASEnnn.OBJ library is necessary. The effect is that UPP711 is compatible with BASE671 through BASE713. For BASE720 and higher you need UPP740 or higher because there are many internal changes in the layout of records that the UPP711 programs are una- ware of.
The following are the main changes:
• UPP711 is compatible with BASE671 through BASE713 and no BASEnnn.OBJ is needed when linking.
• A small number of PTFs have been applied, mainly for the Export and Import programs.
• The following programs are no longer in UPP711:
Changes in Memo/UPP 7.1.1. 3
The UTLMARxx programs are no longer meaningful to run and have therefore been removed.
The UTLCRDME program is, with the advent of attachments way back, no longer possible to run successfully and has therefore been removed.
The response measurement program UTLSDCTP was OK before TCP/IP became used for 3270 sessions. Most Memo installations of today are de- ploying Memo Windows clients and in the case of 3270, are using emula- tors using TCP/IP rather than direct VTAM. The data and thus the result is thefore of no use any longer and this program has been removed.
The program UTLRDATA which is used to reorganized a Memo system does no longer exist, it is replaced by UTLEXP. In fact, is was UTLEXP that was invoked by UTLRDATA anyhow with a special parameter. So, the same functionality is still available but the EXEC card shall specify PGM=UTLEXP,PARM=REORG to do the job.
