Introduction
This guide provides information on reimaging a UVM appliance.
Plan and work with your BeyondTrust Professional Services representative before reimaging your appliance. This process should be executed under the guidance of a BeyondTrust representative.
Prerequisites
A reimaging USB stick issued by BeyondTrust Development Team.
How to
Reimaging the UVM is a manual process. Files and scripts are loaded on the USB stick. After you insert the stick and boot the appliance the scripts run. However, input is required on your part during the process. The procedure provides all the responses required to successfully reimage the appliance. The instructions apply to UVM-20 and UVM-50 appliances with a Windows 2008 R2 operating system. 1. Insert the USB stick containing the UVM base image in one of the USB ports on the front panel. 2. Power on the UVM.
3. During the boot process, press [F11] to enter "Boot Manager".
5. After the initial boot sequence completes, the Boot Manager page should display with boot options. Select BIOS Boot Menu and press ENTER.
6. The system will then scan for available hardware. After a short period, you should be at a screen with drive options. Use the arrow keys to highlight "Hard Drive C:". A popup menu should appear. Use the arrow keys to highlight "* Front USB: Transcend 32GB" and press ENTER.
7. Wait for the Command Prompt.
8. Type "Diskpart" and press ENTER. 9. Type "list volume" and press ENTER.
10. Take note of the drive letter for the USB stick which may also be labeled as " UVM2014*" and is of type "Removable" (eg. "G")
11. Type "exit" and press ENTER.
12. Navigate to the USB drive by typing "x:" and press ENTER. ("x:" being the drive letter found in step 10.)
14. The system prompts:
This will erase all hard drives and install UVM image. Type yes to continue:
Progress is displayed in the console window during BitLocker encryption, and will continue automatically once the encryption is complete.
o The encryption status on a UVM-50 displays drives M, N, O, and C. o The encryption status on a UVM-20 displays drive C.
Note: This will take several hours as the drives will be BitLocker enabled. DO NOT PROCEED with activating Windows in step 17 until the scripts are finished running.
16. Auto Update will start up and check for updates (and finish quickly because versions are locked on EUS).
17. The Windows Activation page will automatically appear. Windows license can be entered now.
18. Click Activate Windows online now.
19. Enter the Windows Product Key and click Next.
UVM-50: Enter Windows Server Embedded Enterprise 2008 R2 Product Key (Item PN: 6GA-00031). UVM-20: Enter Windows Server Embedded Standard 2008 R2 Product Key (Item PN: XXX-NNNNN).
20. You should get a page like below if "Activation was successful". If not then check and re -enter the Product Key again or call Microsoft to activate.
21. Click Close to continue.
22. A request for SQL Server license key is presented, including the dashes. If you have a license it can be entered here. If not, you can press ENTER to resume. An error will display but that is expected and will not cause any issues.
23. Cleanup scripts will run and scripts are removed. 24. UVM will reboot automatically.
Appendix: Copying Files to the USB Stick
Updates can be made to the scripts by copying updated files on the USB stick under the \Updates\ folder.
The contents of this folder would be copied to the main Windows Drive of the UVM w hen it is being built, overwriting any files currently on the image.
