InIBM®InformationServer,youcanadministerand manageusers,roles,sessions, security,logs,andschedules.Boththeconsoleand theWebconsoleprovideglobal administrationcapabilities.

Security administration

Youcanadministersecurityinthefollowingareas:

Accesscontrol

Providerole assignmentsand specifywhattheusercando.

Userandgroupcreationorupdate

IftheIBMInformationServerinternaluserdirectory isused, youcan createorupdateusersandgroups.

Activesessionmanagement

Viewcurrentactivesessions,managesession limits,andforceoneorall userstodisconnect.

IBM InformationServer leveragesWebSphere®ApplicationServer forthedirectory and authenticationprocess.IBM InformationServer usestheWebSphere

ApplicationServerconfigurationforuser andgroupaccessandauthentication and supportsalluser registriesthataresupportedbyWebSphereApplicationServer.

IBM InformationServer alsoprovidesa customWebSphereApplicationServeruser registry.Tostore usersand groupsintherepository,youcanusethiscustom registryinsteadof externaldirectories.

WebSphereInformationAnalyzer, WebSphereDataStage,andWebSphere QualityStageusers

WebSphereInformationAnalyzer,WebSphereDataStage,and WebSphere

QualityStagerequire thatthereisavalidoperatingsystemuser idonthecomputer where theengine tierisinstalled.For eachIBMInformationServeruserthatneeds toaccesstheIBMInformationServerengine,youmustmaptheIBMInformation Server usercredentialstovalidoperatingsystemuser credentialsthatexistonthe engine tier.Toadministersecurityfortheseusers,youcaneitherspecifythatthe user registryisshared betweentheoperatingsystemuserregistryandtheinternal user registry,oryoucanmapthecredentialsforeachuser.

Sharingtheuserregistry

IftheIBMInformationServeruser registryisthesameastheenginetier user registry,youcansharetheuser registry.Youmust configureand ensurethattheoperatingsystemwheretheengine tierisinstalledusesthe same userregistryasIBMInformationServer.IfIBMInformationServeris configuredtousetheinternaluser registry,youcannotsharetheuser registry.

Credential mapping

Iftheoperatingsystemwheretheengine tierisinstalledisnotusingthe same userregistryastheWebSphereApplicationServer,youmustmapthe credentialsona userbyuserbasisorbyspecifying adefaultengine tier localoperatingsystem usernameandpasswordthatisusedforallusers who donothavedefinedcredentialmappings.

Licensing administration

IntheWebconsole,youcanadministertheinstalledlicensesandview alistofthe featuresandunitcountsthatareassociatedwith alicensedcomponentofIBM InformationServer.Additionally,youcanupdatethelicensesfor certainsuite components.

Logging administration

Youcanmanagelogs acrossallof theIBM InformationServer suitecomponents.

The consolesprovidea centralplacetoviewlogsand resolveproblems.Logsare stored inthemetadatarepository,and eachIBMInformationServersuite

componentdefinesrelevantloggingcategories. Loggingadministrationincludes thefollowingareas:

Loggingconfiguration

Asuiteadministratorspecifieswhichloggingcategoriesandseveritylevels ofloggingeventsareloggedin themetadatarepository.

Loggingquery

Createlogviewstoretrieveandquerytheloggedeventsthathavebeen stored inthemetadatarepository.

Scheduling administration

Manyofthesuitecomponentsuseschedulingcapabilities.For example,areport runandananalysis jobinWebSphereInformationAnalyzer arescheduledtasks.

Typically,youcreate,update, andmanage theseschedulesinthesuitecomponent.

For example,youcreatea schedulefora columnanalysisjobtorunweeklyin a WebSphereInformationAnalyzerprojectintheconsole.

Asa suiteadministrator,youmightalsowanttohaveaglobalview ofallofthe scheduledactivitiesthatarecreatedbyeachofthesuitecomponentstoensurethat enough resourcesareavailabletoprocess theseschedulesandtomonitor whois schedulingtasks andwithwhatfrequency.

ToadministerschedulingforIBMInformationServer,youcanqueryallofthe schedulesthatare definedacrossallofthesuitecomponents,check theirstatus, history,and forecast,performmaintenancetasks suchaspurging theschedule executionhistory,andstop orstartexistingschedulestopreventsystemoverload.

Whenadministeringscheduling,youcannotcreatenewschedulesorupdatethe schedulefrequency.Thesetaskscanbeperformedonlyfromthesuitecomponent and consoles.

Configuring Internet Explorer to work with the Web console on Microsoft Windows Server 2003

IfyouarerunningMicrosoftInternet ExploreronacomputerthathasMicrosoft Windows Server2003running, youmight needtocompleteanadditional step.In this scenario,if youarebrowsing toaWebconsolebyusingitshostname,suchas http://<hostname>:9080,youmustaddtheWeb site(http://<hostname>)tothe trusted sitezonesinInternet Explorer.

Toaddthewebsitetothetrusted sitezones:

1. InMicrosoftInternet Explorer,chooseToolsInternetOptions.

2. IntheSecuritytab,selecttheTrustedSiteszone.

3. ClickSites.

4. IntheTrustedSiteswindow,entertheURLashttp://<hostName>andclick Add.

Youdo notneedto completethisstep ifyourclient computerisalso yourserver and youare browsingtotheserverbyusingtheURLhttp://localhost:9080,orif youareusingMozillaFirefox.

Configuring Mozilla Firefox to work with the Web console

3. Enablepop-upsfortheURLoftheWebconsole:

Viewing report results in a Web browser

Reporting

Youcanusethereportsworkspacetocreate,edit,orview areport.Areportshows thedetailsofanactivity thathasbeencompletedinthesuite.

Tocreatea report,youselecta reporttemplateandthen specifytheprojectthat youwanttoassociatewith thereport.Youthentypeparametersforthereportand choose theformatthatyouwantthereporttobecreatedinsuchasPDF,XML,or DHTML. Thereporttemplatesthatareavailable correspondto thecomponentsin thesuite.

Toeditareport,youselectthereportthatyouwanttomodify andthencreatea copy ofit.Youmakeanychangesinthecopy.

Reports canbesavedinthemetadatarepositoryand canbe accessedbyyouorby otherauthorized users.Youorotheruserscanusetheinformationinthereportsto completeothertasksintheproductmodules.

Scheduling

Youcreatescheduleviewstoquerytheschedulesthatyoucreated elsewhereinthe suite.

Youcreatea scheduletodefinewhenanactivitywillruninthesuitecomponent thatyouareworkingin.Aschedulecontainsdetailsaboutwhentheactivitywill run, suchasa specifictimeorday.Schedulescanbe configuredtorunat anytime or onanydatethatyouspecify.Youcanalso configureschedulesto runrepeatedly or atdifferentintervals.

Ascheduleviewshowsinformationsuchasalistofavailable schedulesinthe suite,ahistoryofthescheduledtasksthathavecompleted,and aforecastof the schedulesthatwillrunat aspecific time.Youcancreatea queryinmultipleways:

Security setup

Setting upasecureenvironmentinIBM InformationServer involvesconfiguring theuser registrythatwillbeused, creatingusers,andassigningsecurityrolesto those users.Ifyouarenotsharingtheuser registrybetweentheservicetier and engine tier,youmust alsomapcredentialsbetweentheregistrythatisusedbythe IBM InformationServer directoryserviceandtheregistrythatisusedbythe engine. Finally,somesuitecomponentsalso requirethatyouassignproject-specific rolestousers.

User registries

Auser registryholdsuser accountinformation,suchasausernameandpassword, thatcanbe accessedduringauthentication.TologintoIBMInformationServer,a user musthavea usernameandpasswordintheuser registry.
