About work calls

The BlackBerry MVS Client associates your BlackBerry smartphone with your work number so that you can make and receive work calls on your smartphone and access desk phone features, such as call transfer and voice mail. When someone calls your work number, your desk phone and your smartphone ring at the same time. When you make a call on your smartphone using your work number, your call appears to the recipient to be made from your desk phone. While you are on a work call on your smartphone, you can move the call to your desk phone or to another phone number. You can also make and receive calls, make and receive a second call during a call, place a call on hold, resume calls, and transfer and move calls using your work number if you are in an area of no data coverage or if data services is turned off on your smartphone.

You can perform many common phone tasks, such as making calls, checking your voice mail, or placing calls on hold. You can perform these tasks the same way that you do when you use the mobile phone number that is provided by your wireless service provider on your smartphone. You can find more information about these tasks in the MVS Help application. To see the MVS Help, from the Home screen, press the Send key. Press the key > MVS Help.

CAUTION: Emergency calls to 911, 112, 000, 999, or other internationally recognized numbers intended to connect to a public safety answering point or similar emergency services are not processed through the BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System, and are only processed from your BlackBerry device where mobile network coverage is available from a wireless service provider. The BlackBerry MVS is not designed or intended to be a replacement for traditional telephone service. Additional arrangements must be made, separate from the BlackBerry MVS, for you to obtain access to traditional fixed or wireless telephone services, such as emergency calling capability. Research In Motion and its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, and employees shall have no responsibility or liability whatsoever for any personal injury, death, or damages arising out of or in connection with the inability to access emergency call services (for example, 911, 112, 000, or 999) through the BlackBerry MVS. By using the BlackBerry MVS Client, you agree to the above. If you do not agree to the above, remove the BlackBerry MVS Client from your device.

About using the BlackBerry MVS Client with Wi-Fi

If you have a Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry smartphone that is running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 or later, and you are in a Wi- Fi coverage area, the BlackBerry MVS Client might be able to use the Voice over Wi-Fi feature to connect a call to the Wi-Fi network. Charges that are ordinarily associated with your mobile network for such calls do not apply and you do not use any minutes on your wireless service plan. To use Voice over Wi-Fi, you must be able to access BlackBerry services using the Wi-Fi network, and your administrator must allow you to use Voice over Wi-Fi on the Wi-Fi network.

If you are set up to use your work number with both a Wi-Fi network and the mobile network, when you start a work call in a Wi-Fi coverage area, your smartphone can automatically move the call to the mobile network so that you can continue the call when you move out of range of the Wi-Fi coverage area. After being moved from a Wi-Fi network, the call remains on the mobile network. Likewise, when you start a work call using the mobile network, your smartphone can automatically move the call to the Wi-Fi network when you enter a Wi-Fi coverage area. If you move out of range of the Wi-Fi network, the call is automatically moved to the mobile network and the call remains on the mobile network.
