One Newark Enrolls is for students who are looking to attend a public school in Newark in 2014-15 that they do not currently attend. Please review this guidance to see if your child should participate:

ɯ NO: Students who will stay in their current school. These students do not need to fill out or submit an application. They will simply be able to continue to attend their school. This includes Pre-K 4 students who currently attend a district or charter school and would like to stay in that school for kindergarten.

9 YES: Students who are unable to stay in their current school: Students who are currently in the last grade that their school offers and/or need a new school for the 2014-2015 school year should participate in this process if they would like to attend a district or participating charter school.

9 YES: Students who would like to change schools for next year: Students who are currently enrolled in a public school but would like to apply for a different public school should participate.

9 YES: Students enrolling for the first time in a public school in Newark: Students enrolling in a public school in Newark for the first time who need a school for the 2014-2015 school year and would like to attend a district or participating charter school need to participate in this process.

Additional information about the application timeline:

The system aims to match students with the highest possible school choice listed on their applications. The only reason a student would not be matched to his/her top choice is if it is already full. We recognize that it is important for many families that siblings attend the same school, and that it is important for children to be able to go to high quality schools close to home.

‡ Sibling Priority: Students who want to attend a school their sibling currently attends will have priority for a seat at that school. Families should list that school first on their application if it is their first choice.

‡ Geographic Preference: One Newark Enrolls seeks to ensure that families have district and charter options across the city. The system also recognizes that being able to attend a school in your neighborhood is very important. We encourage families who are interested in attending schools close to their home to only list schools on the application that are accessible to them. The district does guarantee a seat at a school in your geographic area.

We ask that families ensure they are filling out applications as completely and accurately as possible to make sure students are processed through the system fairly.

Most schools do not have admissions criteria. Here is a summary of which schools do:

9 YES: NPS magnet schools are the only schools with admissions criteria. These schools consider test scores, grades, and attendance. Some also require an audition or interview. Any student at the appropriate grade level can apply for admission into a magnet school. Please review the School Guidebook for more information on magnet schools.

ɯ NO: Charter and non-magnet District schools do not have admissions criteria. These schools do not consider test scores or grades for admissions. Any student is eligible to apply for and attend these schools provided the school serves the appropriate grade and has space.

Students with disabilities and English Language Learners may apply and be matched to any participating school WKH\DUHHOLJLEOHWRDWWHQG:HHQFRXUDJHIDPLOLHVWRGLVFXVVWKHLUVFKRRORSWLRQVZLWKWKHLUFKLOG¶VFXUUHQW&KLOG6WXG\
