Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This week we celebrate angels in a special way. Wednesday is the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, archangels. An archangel is an angel who has received, from God Himself, a special mission in the world. Michael appears in the Books of Daniel and Revelation—in the latter, he leads divine armies against Satan. Gabriel accompanies Michael in the Book of Daniel, but St. Luke describes his most important mission: Gabriel is privileged to inform Mary that she will become the Mother of God. Raphael, who features prominently in the Old Testament Book of Tobit, has traditionally been named as the angel of healing who would stir the water in the pool of Bethesda in John 5:1-4. (Check out the stained glass windows near our church ceiling which honor these archangels. Uriel, who is named by various ancient Jewish and Christian traditions, joins them.) Even Muslims recognize the important role of archangels in the divine plan. Then on Saturday we mark the Feast of the Guardian Angels. We believe that God watches over us in many ways, and one way is assigning particular angels to protect and guide us. There are numerous examples of this in the Bible, but my favorite reference is Psalm 91:11: "For he commands his angels with regard to you, to guard you wherever you go." When you read this, be sure to ask your own guardian angel to keep you healthy and safe in every way, robust in your faith, and eager to serve others according to God's call in your life. Esta semana celebramos a los ángeles de una manera especial. El miércoles es la fiesta de los santos
Miguel, Gabriel y Rafael, arcángeles. Un arcángel es un ángel que ha recibido, de Dios mismo, una
misión especial en el mundo. Miguel aparece en los libros de Daniel y Apocalipsis; en este último,
lidera ejércitos divinos contra Satanás. Gabriel acompaña a Miguel en el Libro de Daniel, pero San
Lucas describe su misión más importante: Gabriel tiene el privilegio de informar a María que se

DVD’s in Foreign Languages:
We have received a gift of DVD’s from our Diocese that contain a few DVD’s in foreign languages. All of the DVD’s are stories of the lives of the saints. The languages included are Spanish, French, Italian, and Polish. If you are interested in viewing one of these DVD’s please contact the Library at FisherLibrary@ollrichva.org, or stop by the library when it is open to check the DVD out. All of these DVD’s have English subtitles.
