Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Year B Mk 1:40-42
Mark 1:40-42 The Word of God
A leper came to him begging him, and kneeling he said to him, ‘If you choose, you can make me clean.’ Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, ‘I do choose. Be made clean!’
Mark 1:40-42
Some thoughts on today's scripture…
The leper doesn’t reckon: “I’ve tried others for a cure;
now I’ll try Jesus”. No, for this leper there is no question: his faith in Jesus’ power is absolute.
And he doesn’t even seem to think: “I’ll hold it against you if you don’t help me” – he seems ready to go on accepting his lot; so his faith is deep enough to leave Jesus in perfect freedom: to say to Jesus, “If you choose” – and to mean it.

St Joseph’s Parish Sacramental Program 2021: Reconciliation
Parents of children (Gr 3 and over) who have been baptized or are interested in making the commitment of Baptism are invited to complete an expression of interest form (which is available at the school office) to attend an Information night for parents regarding the Sacraments of Reconciliation.
This meeting will be held on Thursday the 4th of March in the St Joseph’s School Library at 7:00pm (children do not need to attend).
For further information, contact Michelle Cooke at the Parish House on 5762 2060.
1st Reconciliation for these children will be on the 22nd of April Dear families
Last Sunday’s readings speak deeply of faith and the power faith has in our lives if we pursue it. In this current climate of uncertainty and chaos we all have the ability to pursue and invite faith and God into our lives. Let this be our prayer this week.
Congratulations to our student leaders who received their badges and commenced their leadership journey for 2021. We are proud of the children and look forward to working closely with them to foster commitment to lead our school community in becoming life-long learners, who are open to challenges and opportunities and who always strive to reach their potential.
This week all staff have been working hard to prepare a range of activities to ensure that our children are engaged in their learning. St Joseph’s staff are ready to move into Remote Learning Program as of today. Of course, we wait with bated breath for the decision on Wednesday, as to whether or not we return to school this Thursday, or if we continue in lockdown. The staff are prepared for either option and I thank them for their diligence, professionalism and passion for teaching, learning and wellbeing at St Joseph’s. The dynamic staff working at St Joseph’s live and breathe their mission to provide a Catholic, welcoming community that nurtures and values each person because God lives in us all.
God bless.
Mary Dunstan
Ash Wednesday – 17th February 2021
This week the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allows Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice.
We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each family will receive a Project Compassion box and/or a set of envelopes for their donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: lent.caritas.org.au
Saint Oscar Romero is our inspiration for Project Compassion 2021, so in his words let’s “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”

WELCOME 2021 FOUNDATION STUDENTS
On Thursday 4th February, we welcomed our new Foundation students to St Josephs!
The students arrived ready to go in their brand new school uniforms and brought their biggest smiles. Students spent the day meeting their buddies, touring the school, getting to know their new classrooms and reading stories with their teachers. On Friday they had their first specialist classes and had a great time learning Japanese, music and P.E! They also attended their first assembly and their first full school mass. After a busy first few days the weekend was a well earned rest for all!

An Irish Blessing
On Tuesday the 9th of February the Grade 6 students accompanied their Foundation student “buddies” to St Joseph’s church to practice “The Irish Blessing “.
This Blessing is part of our school welcome and thein final farewell to our Grade 6 students at the end of the school year.
This is an opportunity for our Buddies to make positive connection with their buddies through song and movement within our church environment.
Our Grade 6 students also spent time with their Foundation buddies colouring in a picture of each other!
What a wonderful way to start the school year.
