Dual Degree Courses at GJUS&T campus

B.Sc. (Hons.)-M.Sc Physics, B.Sc. (Hons.)-M.Sc Chemistry, B.Sc. (Hons.)-M.Sc

Mathematics, and B.Sc. (Hons.)-M.Sc Biotechnology

The B. Sc-M.Sc dual degree is a program to promote interdisciplinary and a significant research component. During first year the program provides comprehensive training in all basic sciences though students are assigned

major subject in first year itself. Students from courses in specific subjects, some inter-disciplinary courses are also offered on a regular basis. These courses are in areas that are useful to multiple branches of science, and

Environmental sciences, Computational sciences, etc.

Students after three years will be getting Degree of B.Sc (Hons.) in the subject chosen in the first year, and direct entry (without entrance test) to 2 year M.Sc programme in the same subject. There are 120 seats in total and 30 seats in each subject of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biotechnology.

Admission will be based on entrance test conducted by the University. Common counselling will be held and one seat will be allotted either in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biotechnology depending on eligibility, merit and choice.

The students are expected to work on research projects in B.Sc and M.Sc. The project culminates in a thesis and is expected to contain some original research work or high level training.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

(i) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Physics- M.Sc. (Physics)

The candidate(s) should have passed 10+2 examinations in Science discipline with at least 60% marks (57% in case of SC candidates of Haryana) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology/ Biotechnology

subjects in aggregate in the qualifying examinations from a recognized board/ university. (ii) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry- M.Sc. (Chemistry)

The candidate(s) should have passed 10+2 examinations in Science discipline with at least 60% marks (57% in case of SC candidates of Haryana) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology/ Biotechnology subjects in aggregate in the qualifying examinations from a recognized board/ university.

(iii) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics- M.Sc. (Mathematics)

The candidate(s) should have passed 10+2 examinations in Science discipline with at least 60% marks (57% in case of SC candidates of Haryana) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics subjects in aggregate in the qualifying examinations from a recognized board/ university.

(iv) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology- M.Sc. (Biotechnology)

The candidate(s) should have passed 10+2 examinations in Science discipline with at least 60% marks (57% in case of SC candidates of Haryana) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology subjects in aggregate in the qualifying examinations from a recognized board/ university.

(v) M.Sc. (Economics)

A candidate with 50% marks (47.5% in case of SC candidates of Haryana) from the recognized University/ Institute with Economics or Mathematics as one of the subjects in under graduate programme or with Mathematics as one of the subjects in class XII.

Note:- Other Important Information/ Notes related to Eligibility/ Admission as mentioned in the

University Prospectus will be applicable.

In the event of any inconsistency in the rules or any clarification thereof, the matter shall be referred to the Vice-Chancellor for interpretation whose decision shall be final

MODE OF ADMISSION FOR DUAL DEGREE

The admission in all the Dual Degree Courses will be made through a Common Entrance Test to be conducted by the University. A candidate shall have the option to choose one set of subjects for common entrance test from the following:-

(i) Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (ii) Physics, Chemistry and Biology

The admission will be made on the basis of merit list of Common Entrance Test conducted by the University subject to fulfilling the others conditions mentioned in the University Prospectus.

MERIT LIST OF COMMON ENTRANE TEST

For admission to respective Dual degree B.Sc. (Hons.)- M.Sc. courses the merit list of common entrance test will be drawn as under:-

(i) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics- M.Sc. (Mathematics)

Combined Merit in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of common entrance test.

5 (ii) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Physics- M.Sc. (Physics)

Combined Merit in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics OR Physics, Chemistry, Biology of common entrance test.

(iii) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry- M.Sc. (Chemistry)

Combined Merit in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics OR Physics, Chemistry, Biology of common entrance test.

(iv) Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology- M.Sc. (Biotechnology)

Combined Merit in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry or Biology of common entrance test.

(i) Further, if two or more candidates secure identical marks/ rank in the common entrance test conducted by the University for Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons.)- M.Sc. courses, then the marks obtained in the subject Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Biology of the qualifying examination will be considered first for admission to Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons)- M.Sc. in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Biotechnology courses respectively.

(ii) In case any of the candidates does not have the proof of passing his/her qualifying examination (marks of Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Biology) or all have secured identical marks in

subjects Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Biology of qualifying examination, the candidate older in age will be preferred.

The other procedure/ criteria for preparing the merit list will be applicable as per provisions laid down in the University Prospectus for the session 2016-17.

ENTRANCE TEST SYLLABI

Physics - 30 marks

Chemistry - 30 marks

Mathematics or Biology - 30 marks

A candidate may opt either Mathematics or Biology in the common entrance test.

MODE OF ADMISSION FOR M.Sc. (ECONOMICS)

a)

The admission to M.Sc. (Economics) course shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in entrance test conducted by the University.

b)

The entrance test shall be of 100 marks comprising of multiple choice questions. The duration of the test shall be one and half hour. There shall be no negative marking.

ENTRANCE TEST SYLLABI

The test shall include the questions from the following broad areas: i) Logical Reasoning,

ii) Numerical Ability iii) Quantitative Aptitude iv) General English and v) General Awareness.

The Scheduled caste students of Haryana, who are eligible for Post Matric Scholarship (PMS), need not to pay the above prescribed fees.

*In addition to above, the following amount is also payable as specified under:-

i) Rs. 2000/- Security/Caution Money (Refundable) & Rs. 1000/- (Refundable) in case of Scheduled Caste Students who are eligible under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.

ii) Rs. 100.00 Students Welfare Fund (Non Refundable)

iii) Rs. 18.00 Red Cross Fee for onward dissemination to Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana State Branch, Chandigarh.

iv) Rs. 60.00 Student Insurance Scheme

v) Rs. 100.00 Students Freeship (Alumini Fund)

Fee at no. i), ii) and iii) is payable once in a course duration i.e. at the time of admission.

Fee at no. iv) & v) is payable every year (Odd Semester) and the insurance premium & Students Freeship (Alumini Fund) are non-refundable in respect of the students whose names are forwarded to the Insurance Company. The risk coverage for students on rolls of the University on the date of accident will be as per terms and conditions of the Insurance Policy.

Special Attention:

(i) It is for information of all the candidates that the syllabi for Entrance Tests are available on the University website (www.gjust.ac.in). All are advised to visit the website for the same.

(ii) If the number of applications in a course/ programme are less than number of sanctioned intake then no test will be conducted and the concerned Chairperson will intimate the concerned candidate in this regard.
