Prerequisites

Intel® Retail Client Manager (Intel® RCM) is built on the Microsoft* .NET* platform. In order for

Campaign Manager to function correctly, the following prerequisites are required to be installed prior to proceeding with the IntelRCM Campaign Manager installation.

System requirements

Windows*7, Windows Embedded 7, Windows 8, or Windows Embedded 8.

Prior to installing the Intel RCM software, the system’s operating system native language must first be installed for one of the Intel RCM supported languages listed below.

Intel RCM supported languages: o Chinese (Simplified) o English o German o Japanese o Portuguese (Brazil) o Russian o Spanish

The operating system language must be set during the operating system software installation process, and it will not suffice to change the language/region (i.e. using the “Control-Panel”) to match one of the supported locales after the operating system installation.

Failure to set the language during the operating system installation with one of the Intel RCM supported locales will cause Intel RCM software to fail queries on operating system network information, and thus, Intel RCM will be unable to complete required network communications. This requirement does not affect the region choice of used with Intel RCM Audience Analytics.

RCM Player

Please read this entire section thoroughly before starting the Intel RCM Player software for the first time.

The Intel RCM Player can be found within the Intel Retail Client Manager Start Menu group. The Intel RCM Player can also be found by searching for Player in the Windows Start Menu or the Windows 8 Home screen.

The Intel RCM Player needs to be configured to play the desired campaign, and will automatically start on a system reboot after automatic login.

6.1 Intel

®

RCM Player Startup Dialog

When the Intel RCM Player is started for the first time it will determine whether it has been

configured. If it has not been configured, the startup process will display an Intel RCM Player channel configuration dialog message.

The purpose of the dialog message is to inform that the player is not configured, as shown in Figure 11, and provide the user with choices on how to proceed with the startup:

Intel recommends that you choose Yes to configure the player. The Player Configurator application will start. Refer to the following section titled “Intel® RCM Player Channel

Configuration” for basic player configuration instruction.

Choose No to cancel the startup without configuring the Intel RCM Player. The next time the Intel RCM Player is started the dialog menu will be displayed again.

Make no choice to resume the Intel RCM Player startup. If no selection is made (either

Yes or No) within the first 5 seconds of the Intel RCM Player startup, the player will enter into a 5 second countdown, as shown in Figure 12. Upon reaching zero the Intel RCM Player will proceed to start and the default montage will play, as depicted in Figure 13. The default montage will play each time the Intel RCM Player is started, until the basic player configuration is performed, as described in the section titled “Intel® RCM Player Channel

Configuration.”

Note: The Intel default montage will play while the created campaign content is being delivered to the player. Synchronization time will vary based on the file size of the content added to the Campaign. Once synchronized, the created campaign will play according to the set schedule. Refer to the Troubleshooting section if the default montage continues to play instead of the created campaign.

Troubleshooting

Refer to the Prerequisites section in this document to ensure proper system and resource requirements are met prior to installing and using Intel RCM Player and Campaign Manager. 1. The Intel RCM Player continues to play the default montage instead of the campaign:

Any of the following situations will cause the default montage to play:

 Ensure that the channel is configured for the Player. Refer to the section titled “Intel® RCM

Player Channel Configuration” for basic player configuration.

The player system’s Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings must be configured as specified by your company to allow the player to connect to the Internet. If the Internet access requires the use of a proxy, ensure to correctly configure the Proxy and Port information on the players system.

 The configured channel must exist in the domain. Contact the Intel RCM domain administrator at your company to ensure that the channel exists for your domain.
