Software Module

This document describes how to install the Super-Resolution software module (also called the Wave Tracer software) so that it can be used with the MetaMorph® Microscopy Automation & Image Analysis Software.

Installing Prerequisite Software

The Super-Resolution software module can use an NVidia GPU to speed up processing if the video card you have is CUDA-enabled. To

determine if your video card is CUDA-enabled, visit the NVidia web site:

https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus

To take advantage of the increased processing speed, install version 4.2.9 of two CUDA libraries as described in:

• Installing the CUDA GPU Computing SDK on page 6

• Installing the CUDA Toolkit on page 10

Note: This document assumes that the MetaMorph Software is already installed. If the software is not yet installed, see the detailed

installation instructions in article 19276 in the Molecular Devices knowledge base at http://www.moleculardevices.com/support.html.

Molecular Devices strongly recommends that you install the MetaMorph Software into the default location, which is C:\MM.

Note: The Wave Tracer software can run without an NVidia card and can run without the CUDA libraries; however, without the card or libraries, the software will not be able to take advantage of the increased processing speed possible with the GPU. If you do not have a CUDA-enabled video card, skip this section.

(6)

1. Run version 4.2.9 of the CUDA Computing SDK (32-bit or 64- bit) that matches your operating system. For example:

The NVidia GPU Computing SDK installation wizard starts.

2. Click Next.

(7)

3. Accept the terms of the license agreement and then click Next.

(8)

4. Enter the requested information or select “No, thanks!” to skip the registration and then click Next.

It may take several minutes to register the product.

5. On the Setup Type page, select All Users and then click Next.

(9)

6. On the Choose Destination Location page, accept the default installation directory and then click Next.

7. Click Install.

(10)

 Make sure the name of the file is “mmapp.exe.config”.

8. Click Save.

When the file is saved properly, the directory where the MetaMorph Software is installed contains the mmapp.exe application, which launches the software, and the

mmapp.exe.config file, which modifies how the .NET Framework software operates.

(20)

Installing the Wave Tracer Software

1. Go to the MetaMorph FTP site at:

ftp://ftp.meta.moleculardevices.com/support/wavetracer/

2. Download the version of the software (32-bit or 64-bit) that matches your operating system.

3. Navigate to the folder into which you downloaded the Wave Tracer software, and double-click the Wave Tracer installer file to launch the application.

(21)

The Wave Tracer software installation wizard starts.

4. Click Next.

(22)

You must install the Wave Tracer software into the same folder where the MetaMorph Software is installed (by default,

C:\MM\WaveTracer\).

For example, if you installed the MetaMorph Software into C:\MM7\ then you should change the installation folder on this page of the installation wizard to C:\MM7\WaveTracer\.

5. Accept the default location, enter the value in the Folder field, or use the Browse button to locate the installation folder.

6. After setting the installation directory, select “Everyone” if you have multiple Windows accounts and want all users to have access to the Wave Tracer software, or select “Just Me” to limit availability to just the current Windows user. “Everyone” is the preferred option but may require additional (administrative) Windows permissions.

7. Click Next to continue.

8. On the Confirm Installation page, click Next.

Note: Molecular Devices recommends that both the MetaMorph Software and the Wave Tracer software be installed in their default locations. If possible, ensure that the MetaMorph Software is installed in C:\MM\ and that the Wave Tracer software is installed in C:\MM\WaveTracer\.
