Job dimensions
Key member of the Learning Centre team. Will have contact with key stakeholders internally across the organisation and, on occasion, external stakeholders. To provide learning
resources and e-learning support for all students and academic staff ensuring that accurate information is provided in a timely manner.
Key accountabilities and duties
• To assist the Learning Centre Manager in the day-to-day management of the Learning Centre.
• To be responsible for the opening of the Learning Centre when the Learning Centre Manager is not present
• To assist the Learning Manager in the training, and day-to-day support of Learning Centre Advisors.
• To assist the Learning Centre Manager in the management and development of its Brightspace (VLE) content.
• To assist the Learning Centre Manager in the management and development of its website content.
• To administer the ordering and administration of centre textbook and e-resources requests from academic staff.
• To support student access to Dynamic Learning.
• To provide a customer focussed service in the Learning Centre. • To assist users in finding the information they require for their studies. • To be responsible for the issue, renewal and returns of books.
• To assist with printing, photocopying, and scanning of documents. • To assist with the processing of new library stock.
• To assist the Learning Centre Manager in the delivery of Learning Centre inductions. • To assist the Learning Centre Manager in the delivery of e-learning sessions . • To contribute to the design of Learning Centre displays.
• To assist in the setup and the promotion of the Learning Centre using social media. • To be responsible for shelving, filing, and tidying library materials using the Dewey
Decimal system.
• To liaise with academic teams regarding resource orders and disseminating information. • To liaise with Student services in organising student access to Manchester University
Library.
• To assist the Learning Centre Manager in the preparing of reports.
• To support the Learning Centre Manager to ensure students and staff comply with our copyright licenses.
• To assist in the promotion of student reading for pleasure.
• To assist in organising termly events in the Learning Centre, linking at least one with INTO Giving.

Academic qualifications
Educated to degree standard or equivalent.
Library or Information qualifications.
Experience and achievements
Relevant supervisory experience of paid or voluntary work in a customer-focussed environment.
Relevant experience of paid or voluntary work involving face to face enquiry work.
Experience of working in a team. Experience of using various Microsoft Office packages.
Experience of working in a library.
Experience of supporting and helping people from other linguistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Skills Good IT skills: Microsoft Office,
Outlook, VLE use (e.g., Moodle or Blackboard), Website design (e.g., WordPress),
Good numeracy skills.
Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate with students from a range of linguistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to work independently organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines and work to agreed standards.
Ability to collate and analysis data. Ability to communicate with and liaise with teaching staff and managers.
Flexibility and willingness to undertake and learn new tasks. Excellent time management skills. Committed to developing and improving Learning Centre services for students and academic staff. Strong presentation skills. Ability to ensure that accurate information is escalated to the appropriate department/person in a timely fashion.
