Can you make a rain stick?

Rainsticks are ancient musical instruments used by Aboriginal Australians (as well as others around the world) that were thought to bring rain to droughted land.

Examples of rainsticks below. It would be great to see your rainsticks decorated with dot painting like you did yesterday! You will need:

A cardboard tube. Elastic bands. Rice.

2 x pieces of paper for each end.

1. Decorate the tube, then leave to dry.

2. Cover one end with paper and put an elastic band round to seal. 3. Fill the inside with rice.

4. Cover the other end with paper and an elastic band. 5. Now you can use your rain stick!

Australia

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia has so many sea creatures that live or visit. But unfortunately because of plastic pollution, our sea life is suffering.

This episode of Go Jetters is an informative but child friendly way of informing children about the problem of plastic pollution.

Spread one hand out like a star.

Use the index finger on your other hand to trace the outline of your star hand. Take a deep breath in as you move to the top of your thumb. Breathe out as you move down between your thumb and first finger.

Take another breath in as you move to the top of your first finger.

Taking Care of the Environment

Home Learning Challenges

Help at home this week by recycling your rubbish.

How many plastic items did you collect? How many

items were made from card? Can you write down

the number of items you collected altogether?

Go for a nature walk with

your family. Can you spot

any plants, flowers and

trees? See if you can find any

insects, animals or birds. You

could draw a picture of all the

wonderful things you see.

Can you make a bee hotel for your

garden? Ask a grown-up to cut the top

off a plastic bottle and fill it with flowers,

stems and twigs. Pop it in a sunny, dry

place and see if any bees come to stay!

Can you make a litterbug character from

your old rubbish? Maybe you could use a

plastic milk bottle for a body and cardboard

tubes for arms and legs. What could you

use for the eyes?

Can you paint a picture

of our beautiful earth

using a paper plate?

What colour paints will

you need?
