Roxio Toast Titanium

Roxio Toast Titanium is an advanced desktop media processing application that allows you to burn video DVDs, burn music CDs, copy existing discs, burn data discs, convert files, and more.

1) Overview 2) Burn a video DVD

3) Burn a music CD 4) Burn data to a disc 1) Overview

Open Toast with the icon at the bottom of the screen (pictured below).

When Toast opens, it helps you start your project by splitting everything it can do into sections.

Once you’ve clicked on a section, specific project types will appear below. Data projects are ones where you can load any combination of files onto a disc. Audio projects are ones exclusively featuring sound like music CDs. Video is for projects like DVDs. Copy allows you to take an existing disc and quickly copy it exactly. Convert allows you to do special file conversions. If you want to go beyond the instructions in the handout, you can display more advanced project types by clicking the black drop down arrow next to View common

projects and then select View advanced projects.

After clicking buttons in Toast, the whole program window may disappear only for another one to pop up from nowhere a few seconds later. This is 100% normal, if a bit disconcerting. If a message saying “A new version of Toast Titanium is available!” ever appears, please either ignore it, click the red ‘x’ in the upper left corner, or click “Remind Me Later”.

2) Burn a video DVD

Write video files onto a DVD which will play in standard DVD or Blu-ray players.

1. Single click on the Toast icon toward the lower right of the screen.

2. Once you’ve opened Toast, click into the Video section.

3. Click the DVD-Video option. Click Finish.

(2)

4. Once the next menu appears, click on the camera icon to the left of NTSC DV Camcorder Canopus ADVC-110. Once it’s highlighted, either hit the delete key on your keyboard or click the remove files button on the lower right side of the left half of the window.

5. Next, you have to find the files you want to put on your DVD. Click to open the happy- face Finder program in the lower left corner of the screen, and navigate to the location (such as a flash drive, or the desktop or downloads folders) where the videos you want to burn are located.

6. Drag the video file(s) into the blank white area around the gray down arrow on the left.

(3)

7. Give it a second to process the file(s).

8. When it has successfully processed the file(s), you should see a sort of preview that looks like the picture below.

9. Before you start burning the DVD, you can configure options if you like on the right side of the Toast interface.

10. Click the drop down arrow to select a menu style or if you don’t want a DVD menu scroll all the way up to the top to select the No Menus option.

(4)

11. To further customize the DVD menu beyond its style, click Customize (see picture above).

12. A few more advanced options you can change are available under Quality. Changing the quality from Better to Best will decrease the amount of video your DVD can hold but will make that video content look nicer.

13. Press the eject button on the keyboard (above the delete key) to open the DVD tray.

14. Place your DVD on the tray and press the eject button again to insert the disc.

15. As long as the space remaining display in the lower left corner is not all the way full, you’re ready to burn your disc.

16. If you need multiple copies, use the up/down arrows to specify how many. Click Burn in the lower right corner.

17. Give the disc a title in the window that appears, and then click ok.

18. Toast will now start working on burning the disc for you. Depending on the length of the video you’re burning, it may take a while to burn. There are a few steps before burning actually starts. You will hear the disc drive spinning when burning is actually occurring.

(5)

19. The last step of burning Writing Lead-out… may take a while. Be patient. A message saying “Your disc is ready. Mount or eject” will appear when burning has been completed.

20. If you want to check the disc yourself, click Mount. If not, you can click Eject.

21. A larger Toast window will reappear, and a window with a suggestion of how to label the disc may also appear. You can click ok to ignore the labeling suggestion.

22. If you’re burning multiple copies, Toast will now ask you to insert the next disc.

23. Once you have the correct number of copies, when it asks Save changes to “[your DVD title]” before quitting? you can click Don’t Save safely.

(6)

3) Burn a music CD

Write music files onto a CD which will play in standard CD players.

1. Single click on the Toast icon toward the lower right of the screen.

2. Once you’ve opened Toast, click into the Audio section.

3. Click either Audio CD or MP3 Disc. Audio CDs will work almost anywhere, but can store fewer songs. MP3 Discs store more songs but fewer devices (such as many new car stereo systems) can play them. We recommend the “Audio CD” option. Click Finish.

4. Next, you have to find the files you want to put on your CD. Click to open the happy-face Finder program, and navigate to the location (such as a flash drive, or the desktop or downloads folders) where the videos you want to burn are located.

(7)

5. Drag those songs into the blank area on the left side of the Toast window.

6. Give it a few seconds to process your songs.

7. When it has successfully processed the file(s), you should see a sort of preview that looks like the picture below.

8. As long as the space remaining display in the lower left corner is not all the way full, you’re ready to burn your disc.

9. Press the eject button on the keyboard (above the delete key) to open the CD tray.

10. Place your CD on the tray and press the eject button again to insert the disc.

(8)

11. If you need multiple copies, use the up/down arrows to specify how many. Click Burn in the lower right corner.

12. Give the disc a title in the window that appears, and then click ok.

13. It will start working on burning the disc for you. Depending on the length of the songs you’re burning, it may take a while to burn. There are a few steps before burning actually starts. You will hear the disc drive spinning when burning is actually occurring.

14. The last step of burning Writing Lead-Out… may take a while. Be patient. A message saying “Your disc is ready. Mount or eject” will appear when burning has been completed.

15. If you want to check the disc yourself, click Mount. If not, you can click Eject.

16. A larger Toast window will reappear, and a window with a suggestion of how to label the disc may also appear. You can click ok to ignore the labeling suggestion.

17. If you’re burning multiple copies, Toast will now ask you to insert the next disc.

(9)

18. If you do not need to burn any more copies of the CD or if you have burned as many as you need, you can quit out of Toast.

19. When it asks you Save changes to “[your CD title]” before quitting? you can click Don’t Save safely as long as you have as many copies of the CD as you need.

4) Burn data to a disc

Put any combination of documents, videos, songs, etc. on a disc.

1. Once you’ve opened Toast, click into the Data section.

2. Options include Mac Only and Mac & PC. We recommend Mac & PC. Click Finish.

3. Next, you have to find the files you want to put on your DVD. Click to open the happy- face Finder program in the lower left corner of the screen, and navigate to the location (such as a flash drive, or the desktop or downloads folders) where the videos you want to burn are located.

4. Drag the files into the blank area on the left side where Toast says Drag files and folders into this area.

(10)

5. Give it a second to process the file(s).

6. When it has successfully processed the file(s), you should see a sort of preview that looks like the picture below.

You can drag and drop multiple files in – this example just happens to have only one file.

7. Press the eject button on the keyboard (above the delete key) to open the CD tray.

8. Place your CD on the tray and press the eject button again to insert the disc.

9. Toast may not detect if you’ve inserted a CD or DVD. In the bottom left, use the drop down menu to select the type of disc you just inserted if it doesn’t detect the type on its own.

10. As long as the space remaining display in the lower left corner is not all the way full, you’re ready to burn your disc.

11. If you need multiple copies, use the up/down arrows to specify how many. Click Burn in the lower right corner.

12. Give your disc a name in the window that appears.

(11)

13. It will start working on burning the disc for you. There are a few steps before burning actually starts. You will hear the disc drive spinning when burning is actually occurring.

14. The last step of burning Writing Lead-Out… may take a while. Be patient.

15. A message saying “Your disc is ready. Verify, Mount, or Eject” will appear when burning has been completed.

16. If you want to check the disc yourself, click Mount. If you’re done, you can click Eject. If you don’t choose one of those options very quickly, Toast will verify (double check) the disc for you automatically.

(12)

17. After it has verified the disc, a message saying “Your disc is ready. Mount or Eject?” Will appear. If you want to check the disc yourself, click Mount. If you don’t, you can click Eject.

18. A larger Toast window will reappear, and a window with a suggestion of how to label the disc may also appear. You can click ok to ignore the labeling suggestion.

19. If you’re burning multiple copies, Toast will now ask you to insert the next disc.

20. If you do not need to burn any more copies of the disc or if you have burned your last copy, you can quit out of Toast. When it asks you Save changes to “[your disc title]”

before quitting? you can click Don’t Save safely.
