Please read the School of Nursing application and instruction sheet carefully. Failure to complete every item and to follow each instruction may delay processing of the application. Contact the Graduate Advisor at the School of Nursing for any questions at [email protected]. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure all requested documents are submitted in a timely manner and that the applicant’s file is complete.

DEADLINES: The School of Nursing application and all supporting documents must be received by the School of Nursing by the following deadlines:

*Please do not apply prior to the application period listed. Your application will not be processed. The ARNP programs only admit once a year for all concentrations.

Applicants will not be considered for admittance to the School of Nursing until all required information has been returned and the applicant’s file is complete. All correspondence relative to the School of Nursing should be addressed to:

APPLICATION TIPS

1. Complete the PDF application immediately (once the application period is open)

and send it via email to [email protected]

2. Begin compiling the supplemental materials

3. It is best to collect all the materials and send them all in one packet. 4. Order transcripts and arrange for recommendations to be sent.

5. Be thorough in your application. In a competitive process we will review the entire packet when deciding who will be the best candidate for our program, which means everything matters.

MSN APPLICATION CHECKLIST

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

Admission is open to qualified men and women of any race, color, religion, and national or ethnic origin. Graduate admission is processed through the School of Nursing. To be considered for admission,

potential students must submit the following items: 1. Nonrefundable $50 application fee 2. Completed School of Nursing application

3. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities

4. Graduation from an accredited NLN or CCNE BSN nursing program. Overall undergraduate grade point average above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

5. Students whose overall undergraduate GPA is below a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale must submit an official copy of scores reflecting a total score of 900 or more on the combined verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE previous to August 1, 2011 or 290 combined score on the revised GRE exam taken after August 1, 2011

6. The GRE is required by the School of Business for MSN/MBA applicants

7. Three completed School of Nursing recommendation forms of which two must be professional references

8. Completion of the Health & Immunization form including results of TB testing, physical examination and signature of physician, A.R.N.P. or P.A.

9. Documentation of CPR/BCLS certification 10. Florida license to practice nursing

11. Current driver’s license 12. MSN Essay

13. Completion of Professional Experience form (part of application) outlining years of nursing experience and any awards, distinctions, and honors received.

14. All students who submit International transcripts, or whose first language is not English must also take the TOEFL and score 540 on the paper-based exam, 207 on the computer-based exam, or 76 on the internet-computer-based exam

15. Graduate admissions committee may request an on campus interview

16. Evidence of completion of an undergraduate course in statistics and physical assessment.

17. One year of clinical experience is required, if applying for the ENP concentration one year must be in an emergency setting and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

*Background Check is required and will be completed before entering first clinical course. This will be completed the first week of classes for all students.

MSN ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS

TO THE APPLICANT

All applicants to the Jacksonville University School of Nursing are required (as part of the admissions process) to write 1-2 page essay. The specifics follow.

The essay should be at least 100 words in length and double-spaced. Bullets should not be used. Essays are a critical requirement of the admissions process and are used to determine if the student can properly express their viewpoints.

 The Essay should discuss a personal statement describing reasons for pursuing an advanced degree and professional goals.

 Examples can include, where do you see yourself in five years, ten years, how will the completion of your masters at JU in Administration, Education, FNP or FNP/ENP help you achieve that goal.

Tips on writing your essay

 The essay is a crucial part of the application process for the Jacksonville University’s MSN Program- You must put some time and effort into writing this essay.

 The essay must be a minimum of 100 words, double spaced.

 Spelling and grammar are critical! For extra help in this area, search and use internet sites that deal with essay writing.

 Think through what you are going to write and make preliminary notes.  Answer the questions directly- don’t wander off the subject.
