 Everybody must enter via the main entrance and ensure they are wearing face coverings and have sanitised their hands.

 We ask all people on site to adhere to strict social distancing measures reverting back to the 2m rule with a face covering.

 No social visits can be permitted. Active buyers and sellers only, with just one representative per business allowed. No children allowed.

Kivells would like to thank both vendors and purchasers for their support and co-operation at this difficult time.

Orphans to £42 Store Hoggs to £126 Grazing Ewes & Rams to £120 Double Couples to £265 & Singles to £200 Breeders to £158

Another similar number of 36 orphan lambs lacked the strength for another big price but sold to £42 for a pair of month old sorts from Ben Cullen of Exeter and also for a younger sort from Richard & Angela Smaridge of East Allington and Robert Moule of Berry Pomeroy sold three at £41. Plenty of other young “setting on” lambs from £30 to £38 whilst smaller, more fragile sorts were £10 to £20 to give an overall average of all but £32.

**Reminder that lambs are to be at least a week old with dry navals and must have had their morning feed before coming to market**

Nearly 2500 store hoggs yet again, being far more than anticipated, met a slightly steadier trade for the forward short keep hoggs but the medium term and keeping hoggs were just as dear. In general forward sorts back £5-£8, in line with the prime but still topping at £126 for a pair of shapely Charollais from Graham Nicholls of Parracombe, £117.50, £117, £115 & £114 for the usual quality Suffolk x wethers from David & Lynda Pellow of Sourton, £115 also for Adcock & Wotton of Moretonhampstead and £114 for M Coles of Sidbury. Short keep sorts usually all £105 plus whilst the medium term well bred hoggs were from £92 to £104 and harder bred types nearly always £80 plus. Fleshed Hill bred hoggs still keenly sought after by both farmer and abattoir buyers and usually £60 to £79. Overall average is back exactly £6 at £91.70 but this would be due in part to quality.

The grazing section continues to grow here on a Friday and this week peaked at £120 & £111 for Rams again for Adcock & Wotton who also had a pen of Texel x ewes at £105, Kevin Dinnis of Tedburn St Mary saw his best make £103 and Chris & Sue Popham of Trull made £98.

A super entry of 746 Breeding sheep were another fantastic trade with buyers from the Eastern counties and as far north as Lancashire were attracted by Foxworthy Estates genuine consignment of mainly 6T-FM ewes selling to £158 (x10), £152 (x10), £150 (x2), £148 (x2) & £147 (x2) for the NC Mules and to £158, £152, £150 & £148 (x3) for the Suffolk crosses. Their entire entry of 602 in lambers averaged an impressive £147. Other In-Lambers to £115 & £114 for Romney & Highlander crosses from Steve Carpenter of Looe, £110 for the Jordan family of Chagford and £107 (x3) for BM Mules from Mick Branton of Dunsford. Empty ewe hoggs to £127 for the whole consignment of 59 Cheviot Mules from John Salmon of Newquay, Graham Nicholls sold Charollais x Beltex Ewe hoggs at £114 & Beltex Ram Hoggs at £119 and a large pen of Mule running hoggs sold well at £108.

A larger entry of couples and another eye watering trade with buyers competing immensely well given the very mixed quality forward. Outstanding Suffolk cross FM doubles to £265 (£88.33/life) for Chris & Sue Popham of Trull who had singles of the same ilk at £188 (£94/life), Kye Trevelyan of Westleigh had doubles at £262 & £260 whilst Derek Cole of Bradninch sold large pens of Dorset doubles at £255 & £250. £250 also for Ben Brown of Chideock and £248 for May Priorton of East Village as older Mule ewes with twins sold to £245 for Graham Nicholls and £242 for Ben Cullen. Single couples being flock aged Dorset’s from the Lott family of Black Dog rang the bell at £200 followed closely by Clive Harding of Throwleigh with a Jacob cross single at £190, Kye Trevelyan at £185 and no less than 6 pens of singles sold at £180. Second quality sorts trading either side of £70 per life and some third quality sorts that we simply haven’t seen before now, from £44 to £62 per life. All in the Couples averaged £199. 85 per outfit or £80 per life, dearer given the quality forward.

** Lambs must be a week old with dry navals before coming to market and their pens must be bedded with straw please**
