AURORA HEALTH CARE ENDOWMENT FOR GRADUATE NURSING STUDENTS

This scholarship was created through an endowment from Aurora Health Care to support College of Nursing students pursuing graduate education in nursing.

Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a full-time or part-time graduate student in the College of Nursing (CON): Nurse Educator (NE) emphasis, Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) emphasis, or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program.

2. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement exhibited by a grade point average (GPA) greater than 3.5.

3. Applicant must agree to work in the state of Wisconsin for at least one full year post graduation.

4. Applicant must submit a one page single spaced, 12 pt font, document indicating their professional goals post graduation. Preference will be given to those

applicants who include how their goals are congruent with promoting affordable, accessible healthcare.

Selection:

1. Selection will be completed by the Graduate Program Committee.

2. In the event the conditions in the future shall render impractical or impossible to fulfill the purpose for which this scholarship has been established, the President of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation, in consultation with the Dean of the College of Nursing, shall award the scholarship to worthy applicants who most closely fit the above established criteria.

The Award:

1. The scholarship award shall be credited to the recipient’s next tuition obligation incurred at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

2. If any criteria are not fulfilled, or if the student withdraws from the program, the award will be withdrawn.

WILLARD AND MARGARET BLANKE NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship honors parents and grandparents who instill the value of education in their family. As a laborer, Willard had to quit high school to work on the family farm during the depression. After marrying Margaret and starting their own business, they raised four children and gave unending love to them and their six grandchildren. They wanted their children and grandchildren to have more than they did. They never stopped teaching the value of education and achieving success, whatever that was perceived to be. Proudly, their family boasts three persons with PhDs, one person with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), two persons with Master’s degrees, and two persons with Bachelor’s degrees.

Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a graduate student enrolled at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

2. Applicant must be a graduate student within the College of Nursing.

3. Preference will be given to applicants with a Nurse Educator emphasis who have an interest in teaching in an academic setting and a future goal of achieving a PhD in nursing.

4. If no Nurse Educator emphasis students apply, students in other emphases or the DNP program may apply.

1. Selection will be completed by the Graduate Program Committee.

2. In the event the conditions in the future shall render impractical or impossible to fulfill the purpose for which this scholarship has been established, the President of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation, in consultation with the Dean of the College of Nursing, shall award the scholarship to worthy applicants who most closely fit the above established criteria.

NANCY ELSBERRY FAMILY NUSE PRACTITIONER GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

As a founder of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Nursing graduate program, Dr. Nancy Elsberry is dedicated to the growth of Family Nurse Practitioners. During her tenure at UW Oshkosh, Dr. Elsberry received the UW Oshkosh

Distinguished Teaching Award. As a nurse leader and educator she set standards and implemented a program designed to improve quality and patient outcomes across primary healthcare settings.

Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a female graduate student admitted to UW Oshkosh College of Nursing and enrolled in the FNP program.

2. Applicant must have completed a minimum of 15 credits at the time of application. Preference will be given to applicants who show potential for excellence in practice.

3. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement.

4. If no eligible students apply, students in other graduate emphases may apply. 5. In any given year, if two or more applicants are equal and meet other

requirements, financial need may be considered.

Selection:

1. Selection will be completed by the Graduate Program Committee.

2. In the event the conditions in the future shall render impractical or impossible to fulfill the purpose for which this scholarship has been established, the President of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation, in consultation with the Dean of the College of Nursing, shall award the scholarship to worthy applicants who most closely fit the above established criteria.

SHIRLEY M. KARLSON RESEARCH SUPPORT AWARD

This award was established as a memorial to Dr. Shirley M. Karlson who served as Associate Dean and Director of the Graduate Program from 1981 to 1983. She was a Robert Wood Johnson Fellow in Primary Health Care Nursing and focused her research in this area, especially as it related to care of the elderly.

Criteria:

1. Must have an approved proposal for an SROL/manuscript/capstone/clinical paper on file in the Graduate Program office and plans for data collection in the same or following:

KATHERINE MACKINNON FISS QUALITY NURSING AWARD Criteria:

1. Must be an enrolled graduate student at UW Oshkosh College of Nursing, graduating in the fall or spring semester of the academic year of application. 2. The application process will be wholly determined by the highest cumulative GPA

of the applicant.

Selection:

1. Selection will be completed by the Graduate Program Committee.

2. In the event the conditions in the future shall render impractical or impossible to fulfill the purpose for which this scholarship has been established, the President of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation, in consultation with the Dean of the College of Nursing, shall award the scholarship to worthy applicants who most closely fit the above established criteria.

PATRICIA M. NOBLE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

From a young age, Patricia M. Noble dreamed of becoming a nurse. However, unexpected family circumstances required a change in her higher education goals. Rather than entering nursing school after completing high school, she began a life-long career at an insurance company. Although she successfully advanced in this company, years as an honored administrator, and retired after over 30 years of service, her dream of becoming a nurse never came true. Now, it is a dream shared between mother and daughter. In honor of a mother’s dream, and in gratitude for helping to make her daughter’s dream come true, the Patricia M. Noble Scholarship Fund was created for students requiring financial assistance in order to achieve their dream in nursing despite adverse circumstances.

Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a graduate student enrolled at UW Oshkosh within the College of Nursing.

2. Preference will be given to full-time students.

3. Preference will be given to Doctor of Nursing Practice students. 4. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement.

5. The applicant, due to circumstances deemed beyond his or her control, must have proof of support to continue his or her education. Applicants must submit an explanatory statement that documents their desire to receive a university degree in spite of these adverse circumstances. Applicants should include a description of their own efforts to help finance their education (through work, etc.) This explanatory statement, which should also explain why the dream of

becoming a nurse is important to the applicant, shall be an important determining factor in the selection of recipients.

1. Selection will be completed by the Graduate Program Committee.

2. In the event the conditions in the future shall render impractical or impossible to fulfill the purpose for which this scholarship has been established, the President of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation, in consultation with the Dean of the College of Nursing, shall award the scholarship to worthy applicants who most closely fit the above established criteria.

MARY & RUTH WILLCOCKSON NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was created by Mary and Ruth Willcockson to encourage the study of nurses training.

Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a graduate student enrolled at UW Oshkosh within the College of Nursing.

2. Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. 3. Financial need.

Selection:

1. Selection will be completed by the Graduate Program Committee.

2. In the event the conditions in the future shall render impractical or impossible to fulfill the purpose for which this scholarship has been established, the President of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Foundation, in consultation with the Dean of the College of Nursing, shall award the scholarship to worthy applicants who most closely fit the above established criteria.

AILEEN WOOD BARR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Aileen Wood Barr Memorial Scholarship, donated by her daughter, Charlene Barr Chalberg (B.S. 1959, M.S.T. 1969) to UW Oshkosh College of Nursing is a token: a reminder and an inspiration for the family and friends of Aileen and Charlene of their integrity, attainment and acquirement...and is a mark: a visible sign illuminating what was exemplary about Aileen and Charlene and is exemplary in the registered nurse applicants for the Aileen Wood Barr Scholarship:

A devotion to the noblest trait in human nature: the yearning and subsequent striving and struggle to make today morally and materially better than yesterday for self, family and unknown others.

With her benevolence (her well willing which is an affair of the heart) and her beneficence (her well doing which is an affair of the outward conduct) Charlene’s contemplation for her Aileen Wood Barr Memorial Scholarship is, with her funding, to help registered nurses enable themselves to assert better the primacy and ultima thule of medical attending which is to ameliorate ailment...doing so above all for the quiet, intimate, jubilant, ethereal satisfaction of fellow human beings medicalized a jot this day better than yesterday...doing so secondarily for justly, earthly earned income increment.

The Aileen Wood Barr Memorial Scholarship established by Charlene Barr Chalberg will hopefully motivate emulation in family and friends and with its monetary awarding help aspiring registered nurses further develop what is within them to mitigate the sum of human malady misery.

Criteria:

1. Applicants must be full-time or part-time students at UW Oshkosh or have been accepted for admission to UW Oshkosh.

2. Applicants have worked a minimum of three years as a registered nurse and must be currently working in the health care field.

3. Attach a narrative description stating why you should be considered for this award. In addition to describing your past contributions to patient/family/community care, be sure to describe your

professional goals related to advanced practice nursing (2-3 typed pages).

4. The scholarship will be based on intellectual merit. Evidence will include academic performance during undergraduate studies and the applicant’s potential for successful completion of graduate studies.

5. New applicants will be given preference in the selection process. However, a previous recipient may apply for support a second time.

6. Awardees should attend the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Honors & Awards ceremony.
