16. Identify one positive or negative way
the Punic Wars affected patricians.
The Punic Wars affected the patricians in an overall positive way. One way they were
affected was by the influx of slaves coming into Rome from newly conquered countries. Since there were so many slaves to own and put to work, the patricians used slaves on
17. Identify one positive or negative way
the Punic Wars affected plebeians.
One negative way the Punic Wars affected plebeians was the high unemployment
rate. With new land masses being
conquered every war, many new slaves were among the population of Rome.
When slave prices decreased, patricians
stopped needing to pay for plebeian labor. Jobless plebeians roamed the streets.

18. Who do you think is responsible for
the death of Julius Caesar? Use evidence to support your answer.
I think Julius Caesar himself is responsible for his death. Two days before Caesar
died, he fired his bodyguards. Firing his bodyguards shows that he is responsible for his death because if he was to die a hero, he wouldn’t want his bodyguards stopping it and the timing is suspicious. Also, there were too many warnings for it to be plausible that he wouldn’t bring

Antony and Cleopatra
by William Shakespeare, 1607-1623
Original: Translated:
She puts the snake on her chest
CLEOPATRA (talking to the snake): Kill me by biting me. You poisonous thing, get angry and bite me. If you could talk, maybe you would call Octavian an idiot who’s been outsmarted!
CHARMIAN (her servant): Oh no!
CLEOPATRA (talking to her servant): Be quiet! Don’t you see the snake on my chest about to bite and kill me?
CHARMIAN (talking to Cleopatra): Oh, my heart is going to break!
CLEOPATRA (talking to herself): The poison is as sweet as juice, as soft as air, as gentle—Oh, Antony!—No, he’ll die, too.
She puts another snake on her arm.
(Talking to herself, feeling very depressed) Why should I stay alive?!
Reliability

How would you evaluate these sources
on reliability?
•
What do we know about their creators?

Reliability
In both documents, Cleopatra does in
fact die from snakebites, however
neither is reliable because they were
both created long after the event AND
because neither paintings nor plays are
expected to be historically accurate!
