I hope that you have seen the current television advert for Western Riverina Community College. While the advert looks like a retro Super Mario video game and you may have thought some clever market research inspired it, there is a deeper message.

The deeper message aligns with the development of each individual’s personal career-life trajectory. In this sense, our lives are a journey and, as we build skills and knowledge, we make positive life changes and progressions. Similarly, when playing the Super Mario game, we transition through each level until we reach the end of the game.

Accessing higher levels can be difficult, sometimes we think impossible. I am sure you’ve all heard the saying that nothing is impossible and all that is required is a strong will and persistent determination. Sometimes that is just not enough, and new skills or knowledge is needed to progress. We acquire new knowledge through continued practice or through research, or a combination of both. This learning enhances our technical knowledge and helps us reach our goals. Through development of practical skills or a deepening of theoretical knowledge, we successfully link the two, thereby enabling positive life transitions.

So, where are you in your Super Mario game? Do you lack the skills or knowledge to move upwards through the various levels? If you don’t know where or how to begin your journey, I invite you to contact the College’s Student Support Officer today. There are many opportunities and all you need to do is ask.

I look forward to seeing you at the College soon.
