My year as President of the Bexar Chapter is quickly coming to a close and I feel I am just catching my breath. The April Awards Dinner honored several remarkable young people. Because of the successful proceeds from E-Week, we were able to give out

five scholarships for $2,500 each to some amazing high school seniors, and two second year scholarships to past scholarship winners. A warm thank you goes out to all the people that helped volunteer their time and leadership to making E-week so successful. Below is a list of the E-week Committee:

E-Week Committee Chair – Lorena Carter Treasurer – Charlie Hickman Proclamation Breakfast- Russell Rincon Engineer for a Day- Steve Lin and Amanda Saldivar

Past President’s Lunch- Lorena Carter Golf Tournament- Ray Mendez 5k Revenge of the Nerds- Laura Campa

Sporting Clay- Byron Sanderfer Engineer of the Year Banquet- Ty Turner

Sponsorships- Paulette Marazzini

If you see or meet any of them, please tell them thank you and job well done!

We also honored our Science Fair winners at the dinner. We gave cash prizes for first and second place in the Junior and Senior Division from the Alamo City Science Fair. Many thanks to the TSPE volunteer judges for finding these outstanding students!

The Engineering Technology Challenge was held on April 5th. There were 33 teams which represented over 130 participants. Everyone that participated and volunteered had a blast!

Last month was busy and here comes the May Meeting. On May 5th, we will be installing the new officers and holding the Order of the Engineer Ceremony. So come, wear your engineering ring with pride, and encourage someone in your work place to participate and get their ring!

We need sponsors for the TSPE Conference & 78TH Annual Meeting. Check out https://tspe.site-ym.com/? TSPEConference78 for registration and sponsorship info. The conference will be in San Antonio at the HILTON PALACIO DEL RIO HOTEL on JUNE 25-27, 2014. Please make plans to attend and sponsor now! We are planning to have a NIOSITA at La Villita next door to the Hilton on Thursday night. The speaker line up is fabulous, this will be the place to get your PDH’s. For all you Spurs fans the playoffs are starting up and you know our Spurs will be there in the end so if a game is playing, rest assured we will be showing it some way!!!

As always, thank you for attending the meetings, volunteering, and making TSPE the organization to be involved in. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting and don’t forget to bring a potential new member or a TxDOT Affiliate!

Sincerely,

Lori Dullnig-Warlen, P.E.

ORDER OF THE ENGINEER

5

May 2014

The Texas Society of Professional Engineers will host an Order of the Engineer Ceremony on Monday, May 5th, at 12:00pm. This is an event in which engineers obligate themselves to serving the public through their engineering talents and education. The Order serves to encourage a sprit of pride in the engineering profession and to present to others a visible symbol identifying engineers.

Participation in the ceremony is limited to currently licensed professional engineers, recent graduates of ABET engineering schools and those who are within one year of graduation from an ABET school.

The Order is unusual as there are no dues to pay or meetings to attend, (there is an initiation one time cost of $20 to

defray certificate and ring costs), no committees to join or offices to hold. The pact is with the individuals, to themselves and their profession. This event provides an excellent opportunity to join.

Please arrive at the Chapter Meeting on Monday, May 5th at 11:30pm to register for the Order of the Engineer
