Lecture/Workshop Content and Objectives

Introduction Session: The nurses will be provided with basic information about the fellowship, including expectations, schedule, and deadlines. This will also provide an opportunity for questions.

Evidence-based Practice: The nurses will learn about the importance of nursing research and its impact on clinical practice. Research Process: Qualitative and Quantitative research processes will be explained, as well as the types included in each. Evaluating Studies/Research: The nurses will be asked to critically appraise research studies and interpret research findings. IRB requirements: IRB requirements will be explained so that the nurses can prepare their IRB submissions.

Identifying Research Question: The nurses will present their research focus and learn about how to formulate specific questions and hypotheses. PICOT: The PICOT system will be explained and the nurses will practice writing in that format.

Research/Study Designs: Study designs, such as descriptive and experimental designs, will be discussed so that the nurses can choose the best design for their question.

Developing Project Proposal: Proposal content and examples will be discussed in preparation for the IRB and Nursing Research Council. Nurse Testimonials: Fellow nurses who have conducted their own research projects will speak and offer insight and advice.
