WELCOME

Welcome to the Central SC Alliance 2011–2012 Annual Report. As you

will discover in the following pages, 2011 was a record year for our

region. For this we celebrate! As we consider our current and future

prospects, pent up demand, global economic forces, reshoring of

labor, and the return of manufacturing to the US —all bode well for us.

As last year’s record demonstrates, Central SC is well positioned for

continued success. Congratulations to all!

It is our time indeed!

Today, we are in a global competition for jobs and must continue to find innovative ways to get an edge.

Our lead generation program has elevated the Central SC Region to a new level in economic development

marketing and has created opportunities that we have never experienced. We are not only knocking on more

doors, we are getting into the offices of C-level executives. It’s an exciting time for our team and we are

confident that we shall continue to see measurable results from this program.

DAVID KING

Vice President of Marketing

Following the lead of Michelin, two additional major global tire companies have now located in the Central South Carolina region, making our state the biggest tire manufacturer in the United States. A superior logistics and transportation network and a business-friendly cost effective environment continue to help this region attract new capital investment and jobs. It’s a win-win opportunity that

defines Central South Carolina as one of the preferred business locations in the state and in the nation.

METRICS

Since 1994, the Central SC Alliance has worked directly with

companies who have invested over $9.6 billion and created over 58,000 new jobs in the Central SC Region.

Over the last 18 years, every dollar invested in the Central SC Alliance returned to the region:

$449

in capital investment,

$65

in New Property Taxes,

$95

in Annual Payroll, and

$852

in TOTAL economic benefit.

2011 was truly a record year for the Central SC region. The Central SC Alliance generated $1,106,455,000 in total announced capital investment and 3,533 announced jobs in 2011! 147 new projects were generated and we hosted 177 visits from prospective companies over the past 18 months in our region. Overwhelmingly, manufacturing operations accounted for the largest share of new projects logged. Since January 2011, 75% of our announced projects have been expansions of existing industry. We continue to see existing companies further invest in our region due to the strong business climate, strategic location, strong workforce and training programs, and ease of transportation they have experienced. While various global trends such as the right-shoring of jobs to the US, greenfield expansions, and the rebirth of American manufacturing have allowed us the opportunity to capitalize on recruiting our newest companies to the region.
