By the end of the course, second year students will

be able to think critically by integrating the nursing process into clinical situations in a simulated healthcare environment. Health Science Skills Lab/Simulated Environment on-line survey. The survey includes the following question: At completion of this course, I am able to consistently think critically by integrating the nursing process in clinical situations in a simulated environment.

The online survey was launched in week 12 of the semester.

Students had until the end of the semester to complete the survey. The question “At completion of this course, I am able to consistently think critically by integrating the nursing process in clinical situations in a simulated environment” was analyzed using a likert rating scale of: strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly

This is an ongoing outcome that will need to be assessed every semester. The staff in the lab will continue to offer experiences, such as high fidelity simulation and mid-fidelity case scenarios, that necessitate integrating critical thinking with the decision making process.

The survey questions will be launched again in the fall around week 12.

Lab/Simulated Environment on-line survey. The survey includes the following question: At completion of this course, I am able to consistently think critically by integrating the nursing process in clinical situations in a simulated environment.

The online survey was launched in week 11and was open for 5 weeks (until the last day of classes). Each week the students were reminded to complete the online survey. The link was emailed to each student and a hard copy of the link was also provided. Total number of respondents was 36 out of a total of 109 students. The question “At completion of this course, I am able to consistently think critically by integrating the nursing process in clinical

The online survey will be launched again in the Spring 2014 semester at week 12. Prior to the launce, the student body will be notified by email and hard mail. Opportunities to complete the survey while in the lab will be available, such as establishing links on the desktop of the computers in R-303-1; possibly providing a laptop in the skills lab R-203-A with the link on its

desktop; educating students about the availability of taking the survey via their smart phones; and possibly

disagree. Results: Of the 62 respondents, 50% strongly agreed and 40% agreed that they were able to think critically by applying the nursing process in clinical situations in the lab environment. 10% of the respondents reported a neutral response. Based on these results, the majority of students utilizing the simulated healthcare lab are able to integrate critical thinking skills to clinical situations. The overall goal would be to have 100% of the students demonstrate the ability of integrating critical thinking skills in a simulated environment situations in a simulated environment” was analyzed using a likert rating scale of: strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree. Results: Of the 36 respondents, 58% strongly agreed and 36% agreed that they were able to think critically by applying the nursing process in clinical situations in the lab environment. 3% of the respondents reported a neutral response and 3% disagreed. Based on these results, 94% of the respondent students utilizing the simulated healthcare lab are able to integrate critical thinking skills to clinical situations.

The responses

Therefore, it is

The question “At completion of this course, I feel I am able to differentiate between effective, accurate, and congruent transfer of healthcare information and ineffective, inaccurate, and incongruent transfer of healthcare information in a simulated environment” was analyzed using a likert rating scale of: strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree. Results: Of the 58 respondents, 50% strongly agreed and 43% agreed that they were able to differentiate between effective, accurate, and congruent communication skills such as the delivery and receiving of a patient care report, analyzing diagnostic findings and accurately reporting of those findings.

transfer of information and ineffective, inaccurate, and incongruent transfer of information in the simulated environment. 5% of the respondents reported a neutral response. 2% of the respondents disagreed. Based on these results, 93% of the students are able to differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate communication necessary for working in a healthcare environment. Appropriate and accurate communication is a necessity when working in any healthcare environment. The goal is to have 100% of the students differentiate between effective reported a neutral response. Based on these results, 97% of the students are able to differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate communication necessary for working in a healthcare environment. The goal is to have 100% of the students differentiate between effective and accurate transfer of healthcare information and non-effective and inaccurate transfer of healthcare information. This is an

outcome that will be ongoing. There is a concern identified in that out of 109 students, only 36 responded to the
