• A member must first

compete in area

competitions in the event

to qualify for competition

at the state convention.

(34)

• All students that compete in an area

competition can also compete at

State.

• The first [or second in some events]

place winner in each STAR Event will

be able to compete at Nationals.

• The only exception is Culinary Arts.

The top three winners in each area

will compete at State.

(35)

• The student must compete

in the same event at Area

RUNOFFS

• The purpose of a runoff

is to determine

placement of 1

st

, 2

nd

and

(40)

• If there are more than one

set of judges at State

Competition for the same

CATEGORY (Jr. Sr. Occ.),

there must be a runoff.

(41)

• Usually the Sr. Category

has more runoffs than Jr.

or Occupational.

(42)

• One judge from each set

of judges must commit

up front to stay longer to

help judge again.

(43)

• Depending on how many tables there are, the

room consultant may have the top one (1) or the

top two (2) scoring students or teams from each

table come back for a runoff. Be consistent. If

you take one from one table because it is a high

score, but the rest are lower scores, and then

take 2 from another table, that is not consistent.

Either take one from each table or two from each

table.

(44)

• Room consultant keeps the

original score sheet. (Do not

throw away or show to new set

of judges.)

• The new set of judges starts

with a new score sheet.

• This set of judges will determine

(45)

• In the event of a runoff, the runoff

score supersedes the first score,

if it is higher than the original

score.

• If the runoff score is lower than

the original score, the student will

receive the medal based on the

original score.

(46)

• Room consultant must put both

score sheets together for that team

or individual.

• Room consultant must have judges

initial paper listing that they are all

in agreement on who should be 1

st

,

2

nd

, 3

rd

place. The new score sheet

(47)

• The highest scoring gold or silver

medal winner placing 1

st

, 2

nd

, or 3

rd

place qualifies for national

competition at the National

Leadership Meeting.

• If highest score is a bronze rating, no

team will qualify for national meeting.
