Check out the dust cover on the Journey with Olds. This will be your first opportunity to register for the 2006 OCA Nationals. It is impor-tant that we get as many early registrations as possible to establish the working capital to order trophies, pay deposits for the tours, and provide for the other expenses that NTOC has taken on as the host chapter.

It is easy, just review the registration form, make your selections and sign up early. Get ready, here they come. As NTOC members we should be among the first to register.

The need for volunteers is still here. Due to business travel Lesa Bishop will not be able to attend the Thursday evening activities so we are looking for someone to help host the event. If you can help, be sure to contact either Murphy or Gene.

All committees should be checking on your need for workers during the actual time of the Nationals. Many people have to make vacation plans early to get the time they want so begin now to make contacts. Try to determine how many people you will need to assist on the tours, to take tickets at the hotel events, to hand out the trophies on Saturday, to tally the score sheets, to provide showfield security, and the many other things that we will need to do.

We still need someone to step forward to control trailer parking. It looks like the Swap Meet coordinator will not be able to attend due to some family health issues so NTOC folks will need to shuffle around to pick up some responsibilities. Thanks Aron for volunteering to assist with some of the new work load.

Meeting Minutes

by Darla Walker

President Steve Browning called the December meeting to order at ~ 5:00 PM on the 10th in the meeting room at the Holiday Inn Select – North Dallas. Forty-five members gathered for the meeting and to enjoy our annual holiday dinner and gift exchange afterward. Steve wished everyone a Merry Christmas and put out a call for help with the upcoming Lone Star Nationals. NTOC’ers are encouraged to register early to help provide funds for early needs such as event deposits, printing and supplies, etc... at least three members have already sub-mitted theirs!

Cindy Payton gave a treasurer’s report which itemized the $1600 Helping Hands contributions (Hospitality House and Retirement Center, Women’s Shelter Adopt-a-Family, Wounded Soldiers, and the Peach Tree Place Alzheimer Care Center). Cindy also recognized Stewart and Gayla Stephenson for their additional contributions to complete the wish list for the Women’s Shelter. Murphy Walker donated $100 in coins to begin the collections for 2006. Let us not forget to help those who cannot fully help themselves as we could be one of them at any time. Gene Crowdis announced that the Bishops must resign as committee chairpersons for the After Dinner Welcome Event at the 2006 Nationals due to a work conflict. This also serves as an invitation for a volunteer to step in and guide the partially established plan to completion – which means a successful get acquainted social in June! Aron Nance reported that he has made contact with potential entertainers for this event, and Gene said much of the “basics” (menu, pricing, etc.) have already been coordinated. Please step up and take the lead if you’d like to throw a unique party for a few hundred Oldsmobile friends next summer…

Gene also reminded everyone about special items that will be published in the January issue of JWO. In addition to the National meet registration form and basic informa-tion, the ballot for voting on proposed OCA By-laws changes will be available. Please take the time to under-stand and vote on the rules that govern your club. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact OCA Board members (Pat Yancey, Gene Crowdis or Murphy Walker in Texas) for additional information. The current OCA officers are working very hard to clarify and correct some long-standing discrepancies in our organization in hopes of restoring the fun that club membership should provide. This voting process – as well as the balloting to elect officers in the Spring of 2006 – are very important so all members and associate members should exercise their right to vote. Your actions and voice (or a lack of them!) drive the Club!

Lawrence Dagate reported that TVCC acknowledged and offered appreciation for NTOC’s support through the years. Lawrence will provide updates when received from their January Board meeting. We must not forget to sup-port the lobbyists that serve our hobby !!!

Brad Bishop announced that spirit items would be avail-able at the party to help you find the perfect holiday gift for your favorite Oldsmobile enthusiasts. Hmmmm, what a great idea for birthdays, anniversaries – or just about any day for this bunch!

Be sure to check the January issue of The Rocket for the monthly meeting location. And remember that most meetings in 2006 will be focused on Nationals planning – and many will actually be conducted at the InterContinental to help familiarize us with the hotel and grounds and allow the hotel staff to better understand the requirements of our group. Please include NTOC and the Lone Star Nationals as a top priority in your schedule for ’06 … thanks !!!

NTOC Annual Helping Hands Drive for 2005

We had a balance of $64.29 after the end of year disbursments and $100.00 in change from Murphy & Darla Walker bringing the balance to $164.29 to start the 2006 Helping Hands Fund. We all need to see if we can help meet the goal of $1500.00 that we shoot for each year. There are so many people who are less fortu-nate than we are. Let’s see if we can meet and pass the annual goal again this year.

NTOC Christmas Party Included Lots of Fun

Again this year the NTOC family joined together to hold our annual December meeting and Christmas party. With about 60 members in attendance, some from as far away as Houston and Austin, we enjoyed a fine meal, a few recognition awards, and then the gift exchange.

The awards this year were presented to Patrick Langton, Spark Plug Award for stepping up to develop

And the annual NTOC R.E. Olds award was presented to a well deserving couple, Murphy and Darla Walker for their outstanding representation of NTOC wherever they are. From the Road Show booth at the Texas Speedway swap meet to the numerous events, they attend all over the state, to their participation in the 2006 OCA Nationals committees they are never-end-ing sponsors of NTOC and OCA.

OCA By-Laws Voting

A Short Message on the OCA By-Laws Voting

This month you will have an opportunity to vote on proposed changes in the OCA By-laws. You are urged to review the proposed changes, ask questions regarding the proposals if you need more information, and vote as you believe will be in the best interest of OCA.

The NTOC officers encourage you to vote early to ensure that you do vote before it slips your mind. If you are coming to the January NTOC and want to bring your completed ballot (Preferably sealed)they will be collected and mailed in as a group.

Can You Imagine …

Not only the shock of being selected by our local Olds family as recipients of the NTOC 2005 R.E. Olds Award – but also to be recog-nized as Mr. and Mrs. Bah Humbug all in the same announcement. What a humbling experi-ence in more ways than one!

Oldsmobile friends and activities have become such a part of us, it’s difficult to imagine our life without them. And it’s very surprising to be sin-gled out for going about our daily routine because of it! Thank you for sharing such a spe-cial honor with us …

With care, Murph and Darla
