T H E PA R I S H O F T H E H O LY C R O S S
L A PA R R O Q U I A D E L A S A N TA C R U Z
Dearest Parishioners,
Peace in the Lord. Last month, I wrote about
October as “Respect Life” month and about the
importance of individuals, families and the
community-at-large coming together to protect and support life from
the womb to the tomb. Life is God’s first and most
precious gift given to us. Yet, it is not a temporary gift to
be lived only in this world; rather, reflecting upon God’s
love and mercy, life is meant to be lived throughout
eternity in love. In our Christian faith, we call this
“eternal life.” Thus, in November, the Church reminds
us that life on earth must be viewed within God’s plan
of salvation for humanity: life given in creation (Genesis
1-2) is a life lived abundantly and joyfully in Jesus (John
10:10) and redeemed by His saving blood: “For God so
loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that
whoever believes in him should not perish but have
eternal” (John 3:16). November is not merely a
reflection on death and the dead; in the light of faith we
reflect upon death as transition and upon those who
have died as “the faithful departed.” The Catholic
funeral Mass beautifully conveys this belief: “Indeed for
your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when
this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is
made for them in heaven.” Death should not be glorified
nor personified; nor should the dead be viewed as mere
ghosts. This is not our Catholic faith. Rather, in our
Christian faith, death is viewed as a consequence of sin;
however, it has been conquered and has lost its eternal
grip upon us through Jesus’ saving death and
resurrection. Although there is a physical separation
between the living and the faithful departed, there exists
a true “communion” (unity) among them. The Church
calls this the “communion of saints”: all those “who
have placed their hope in Christ and belong to him
through Baptism, whether they have already died or are
still alive” still form one Body and “live in a communion
that encompasses heaven and earth” (Youth Catechism of
the Catholic Church, number 146; see also the Catechism of
the Catholic Church, numbers 946-962). The bonds with
our dearly beloved deceased continue in Christian love
and faith. We pray, therefore, in the hope that we may
be reunited one day with our beloved deceased and with
all the faithful departed. Let us look upon death, not in a
morbid sense; but, in the eyes of faith, as a reunification
in the family of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (see
Romans 14:7-8).

Sharing of time, talent or treasure
for the common good & the glory of God
“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the
day nor the hour.” - MATTHEW 25:13
Many of us have put off doing something because we
think we are too busy. We’ve all said, “I’ll do it later
when I have time.” Unfortunately, too many of us
apply this attitude to our Faith. Jesus’ call is urgent, in
the here and now, in your current circumstances.
Don’t delay. How is God calling you to use your
Stewardship gifts today? None of us is guaranteed
tomorrow.

foolish. Pay attention to the small acts necessary to

TEACHER HELP FOR PREP 2020-21
This has been a crazy year with a lot of changes. We continue to adapt and create here at the parish religious education program. Due to the current pandemic situation and new life adventures, some of our veteran catechists are unable to return this year. PREP is in need of your help – especially for grades 5, 7, 8, and the teen program. We are using a newly created hybrid program this year with most of the work being done at home. The students are only meeting with religion teachers online via Zoom once a month. If you are interested in joining this amazing ministry or would like more information, please call Melissa Kiessling as soon as possible at 856-455-2323, x 309. Thank you!
CHANGE TO PREP START 2020
To make sure we get you everything you need to start PREP, the start date has been moved to November 9. You will receive a schedule with your child's book. Book pick up will be the first weekend in November. Please listen to the call out message and check these social media sites for information. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Stay safe! God bless!!
LA ESQUINA DEL PASTOR
Estimados Feligreses,
no es un regalo temporal para vivir solo en este mundo;
Consideremos la muerte no en un sentido mórbido;

actuales. No se demore. ¿Cómo te está llamando Dios
a usar tus dones hoy? Ninguno de nosotros tiene
garantizado el mañana.
