Configuration Guide <memory / ODD / FDD>

Memory [std. 1 / max.4]

 NOTE

 1x 1GB DIMM is factory-installed.

 The memory module available for the GT110b are DDR3-1333(PC3-10600) Unbuffered type with ECC (but memory of Celeron G1101 model, Pentium G6950 model frequency is 1066MHz)

 Memory extension by one DIMM is possible, but a set of two DIMMs (same capacity) is recommended. (for 2way interleave)

 If there are different capacity DIMMs, larger capacity DIMMs should be installed in the smaller number slots.  For more details about the memory size supported by each OS, please refer to the “Supplementary Notes

<Memory (1)>” at the end of this document.

 Additional memory module (1x 1GB) [N8102-342F]

 Additional memory module (1x 2GB) [N8102-343F]

 Additional memory module (1x 4GB) [N8102-344F]

UP to four memory modules can be installed.

You can expand the memory capacity up to 16GB(4x 4GB) by replacing the standard DIMM.

 Notes for AFT/SFT/ALB Teaming of network

 You can create a Teaming between the standard LAN interface and N8104-121/125A/126.  Teaming is possible between the same N-code LAN cards.

 Other combinations for Teaming are not supported.  Supplementary notes

 For details of each card, refer to the technical guide.

 The performance described between parenthesis is the max performance of the card itself.

 When the performance of the PCI card is higher than the PCI slot, the PCI card operates with lower performance.

 Hard disk

 Measurement units of the hard disk capacity are 1GB=10003B and 1TB=10004B. The capacity is less when

compared with same capacity figures based on 1GB=10243B and 1TB=10244B.

 PCI expansion slot

 Speed of PCI EXPRESS (unidirectional / lane)  PCI EXPRESS (PCIe): 2.5Gbps

 PCI EXPRESS 2.0(PCIe 2.0): 2.5Gbps (#2/#3 slots) or 5Gbps (#1 slot)  PCIe 2.0 x16 lanes will make a 80Gbps (unidirectional) lane (#1 slot)  “Socket” describes the size of the connector.

 Sockets are capable of connecting cards of the same or smaller size.  e.g. x4 socket -> x1 and x4 cards are supported. x8 card is not supported.

 System Clock

 When stored at a low or high temperature, the system clock may largely deviate from the current time.

 EXPRESSBUILDER

 EXPRESSBUILDER (DVD media) includes the following:

 Server Management Software : NEC ESMPRO Server Manager (Windows), NEC ESMPRO Agent  Users Guide

 RAID system management software: Universal RAID Utility  Various drivers

 OS

 For details as specifications and connections limited by OSs, refer to the (Detailed System Configuration Guide) and "Hw_List".

(RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50)

 RAID configuration

 For RAID configuration, provide HDDs of same capacity and rotation speed within same group (pack). Also, use the same rotation speed HDDs in the system. (Refer to the next page for SAS/SATA mix configuration)

 Case A/F (Non RAID configuration), Case B/G (On-board RAID)  On-board RAID function (LSI Embedded MegaRAID)

 RAID calculations utilize the CPU on the motherboard.

 Case C/H (N8103-116A RAID controller [LSI MegaRAID])

 Insert RAID controller to PCI slot for RAID configuration. RAID calculations utilize the CPU on the RAID controller.

 For N8103-119 RAID option of adding the upgrade kit for RAID configuration, please refer to below Case D.

 Case D/I(N8103-109 RAID controller [Promise RAID])  Case E/J(N8103-117A RAID controller [LSI MegaRAID])

 Insert RAID controller to PCI slot for RAID configuration. RAID calculations utilize the CPU on the RAID controller.

 When using RAID controller in Case C/D/E/H/I/J - Precautions

 The controller is set to “write-through” by default. For higher performance, it is recommended to install an additional battery and operate in “write-back” mode. For details on how to change settings, refer to the Users Guide attached to the main unit.

 Write Through mode

 A synchronous write to the hard disk occurs when there is a write to a cache memory.  Write Back mode

 When there is a write to a cache memory, the completion notification is issued to the software immediately, while the array controller performs an asynchronous write to the hard disk. In general, the access speed is faster than write-through mode. An UPS or batteries to backup the data is required.

(26)

 Mixed configuration of SATA HDD and SAS HDD

 Mixed configuration of SATA HDD and SAS HDD is not supported.

Supplementary Notes <HDD(2)>

Mixed configuration of 2.5inch internal HDD and SSD

Example:

Install SAS HDD in Slots 0~1, SATA SSD in Slots 2~3

 Mixed configuration of HDD(SATA/SAS) and SSD

 For mixed configuration of SAS HDD and SATA SSD, RAID controller is required.  Mixed configuration within same RAID group (pack) is not supported.

 Mixed configuration of SAS HDDs of different rotation speed is not supported.

 Install HDD (SAS/SATA) in sequence from Slot #0. Remaining slots can be used for installing SSD.

Slot 1 (SAS HDD) Slot 3 (SATA SSD) Slot 0 (SAS HDD) Slot 2 (SATA SSD) Slot 1 (SATA HDD) Slot 3 (SATA SSD) Slot 0 (SATA HDD) Slot 2 (SATA HDD) Example:

Install SAS HDD in Slots 0~2, SATA SSD in Slot 3 Slot 0 Slot 1 Slot 2 Slot 3 2.5inch HDD cage (Option)

Supplementary Notes <Flash FDD>

 Flash FDD (N8160-86) overview

 USB2.0 compliant FDD emulation feature equipped

in the USB Flash drive.

 Stick type. FD icon/capacity is printed for easy

recognition.

 Capacity: 1.44MB (FAT formatted)

*Same as one FD(2HD)

 Strap hole, Write protect switch.

Flash FDD

Flash FDD is an alternative device of FDD using USB flash drive. This device can be used

as boot device without additional driver. Also, automatically recognized by OS as a Floppy

disk drive after connecting to USB port since this device supports Plug and Play.

*1

*1: Support OS only

 Intended uses of FDD substituted by Flash FDD

 Flash FDD can be used instead of FDD for the following uses. Arrange Flash FDD if

needed for your system.
