when it is up and running. Speaking of the web page, if we have any members interested in passing on some of their expertise in the best options of setting up a website, please let me know.

Don’t forget to say hello to all of the new members and make them feel welcome. Some are new to gaming so don’t scare them away :)

Send your submissions in to:

Garagegamersgroup@ gmail.com and put Editor in

the subject line. SEE YOU THERE Hi Everyone,

I hope that you all had an excellent month.

Firstly a mention for our interactive campaign that got off to a great start.

That is ‘Dog County Range Wars’. Land was snatched up by Ranchers eager to expand their lot, and become the Land Baron or Cattle Boss that will name the new territory. In only the first turn, players aggressively began their take overs, exploring unknown lands and in some cases, clashing with their neighbor's already.

Shootouts have happened between unfriendly land claims.

New rivers and ranges have been discovered.

See the players map where for the first time, campaigners will be able to see where their opponents have explored.

Dog County Range Wars is Snake Eyes Magazine’s first interactive game, and opens up loads more of new campaign games, coming over the next several months.

Space Hulk made the cover of this month’s issue. A lot of Games Workshop games came and went with never a re

release. This is Space Hulk’s forth release. Well 3.5 actu-ally as the new game is the same as third release with a few more missions, and board pieces. Ideal for the gamers who missed out on the third edition as it was packed full of very cool Blood Angel Terminators and unique Genestealers, especially the Broodlord. What’s also interesting about Space Hulk is the overall missions are pretty much the same, in the box set for all editions. It is the board pieces, and the miniatures that make up so much of the appeal, and of course, you just have to have it for your collection.

I bought the second and third edition, so won’t be chasing 3.5. That being said, if GW re-releases Death Wing and Genestealer expansions I’m there with size 14 boots on.

We have had a lot of new members join Garage Gamers Group this month. There was some discussion on whether to continue hav-ing a Members Page included in Snake Eyes. This will be the last issue it does, but the Member List will, from next month be shown on the GGG facebook page, and eventually the web page

The game is set on a modular board made up of various board sections which represent corridors and rooms and which can be freely arranged and locked together like a jigsaw puzzle to represent the interior of a space hulk. One player controls the Space Marine Terminators, and the other player controls the Genestealers. It is an asymmetric game. First, in that the two players have different forces to begin with. Second, in that the two players may have different objectives to fullfill during a "mission" (the in-game term for a particular scenario of the game). The Termi-nator player may have the objective of de-stroying a specified area of the board or a specified Genestealer piece or some other objective; and the Genestealer player may have the objective of destroying a specified Terminator piece or all of the Terminator pieces or some other objective. Third, in that the pieces of the two players move different-ly. The Terminator pieces move slowly; and the Genestealer pieces move quickly. Fourth, in that in regard to combat: the Terminator pieces excel in ranged combat, but they are weak in close combat; and the Genestealer pieces excel in close combat, but they cannot perform ranged combat at all. The pieces are moved by the players through a system of "action points", where each piece has a cer-tain amount specified for it. A Terminator piece has few action points; and a Genesteal-er piece has many action points. The game is notable for its hidden play mechanics, from

play or to represent players? Once you have you list of your subject matter, then you can create the playing field and the essence of all games, the goodies and the baddies. Now you can pick the historical, fantasy, or scifi genre you would like. Every-thing is open to you, as this is where your imagination works best. For example you may want Zombies, Naval warfare, and for the game to be played in Outer Space. What does this bring to mind for you?

If this were my selection, I would break it down unto the

three elements. Do I want my zombies like the “Walking Dead”, sort of shambling along, or like “World War Z”, where they don’t shamble at all? Are they ‘smart’ zombies? Then if I like the Naval idea, I can incorporate that into a space fleet scenario. How big are my ships? How did the zombies get there? Is it a plague in space? Is it real space or a Star Wars type of galaxy?

At this stage we have your “Game Framework” for you to add ideas to your notebook.

sure, however there are digital editions available now as an e-publication or even as PDF for the older documents. This will allow you to start creating more space on your shelves and display cabinets for the things that you really want to show off...your collection. Digital documents will work on your phone, tablet, laptop for portability, and you can have the whole collection in one place. As you acquire the digital edition you can then buy some nice deep plastic container boxes to store your expensive rulebooks, and co-decs. The same goes for your novels and magazines. Get the digital copy and pack away the

other. Of course you will want to keep out your popular books that you game with often, but you don’t need the others out. Unless they are old editions, no one will really care how many books or rulebooks you have to show off, so make room for those lovely painted (or not) miniatures.

To put things in a more or-derly fashion, if you are run-ning out of room, prioritise with Miniatures first, then rulebooks (both game and army), then novels and then magazines. Don’t pack away your tools and paints as you might forget which box they are in. Yes, this has happened to me.

One of the issues facing a die hard collector is storage. My shelves are overflowing from me adding (damn it) rule-books, games, new miniatures, and novels to my collection Storage is eventually some-thing that collectors will have to plan for. That is, what’s go-ing to be on display, and what’s going to be packed in boxes. Your gaming miniatures are also fighting for space with terrain, paints, tools and mod-els still in their box and maybe even some rulebooks and magazines as well. What to do?

I love the original rulebooks that you can hold and flick through the pages at your

Well, how time flies. Another month is looming and I need to write this as it has been a busy time. Well the title should say it all but I will go into more details. If you have been getting “Snake Eyes” from the start or just last issue we would love to hear what you think. Nick does heaps to get this out and John McDonnell and myself help out . The reason we do is our love for our hobby and pas-sion to see it grow. We charge you nothing and some help out with photo’s but for me the greatest reward comes from feed back from YOU.

If no one reads it then there would be no point in creating it, and even though you might read it and think good job, we can’t read minds. (Its true).

If you could please find the time send a note tell us what you think of Snake Eyes. What area’s do you think we might be able to cover that we haven’t done yet. Games between mates if you take photo’s with some notes would be good. Maybe a tournament that we can advertise, photos from you and your games. Tournaments are so many theses days that we can’t get to them all, let alone advertise all of them in advance.

Case in point, I played in a Warmachine tourney recently and thus it appears for the first time in Snake Eyes but on same day there was an Infinity game in Caboolture, (north of Brisbane) and a 40k tourney at the Gold Coast (south of Brisbane). I have nev-er played Infinity so would have been good to see and share, and include some gaming on the Gold Coast in an issue.

Speaking on contributions, a recently joined member, Michael Colclough, has shown off some of his work, below. The image is of Typhoons attacking a PzkwVI caught in the

open at the Falaise Gap in Normandy in Ju-ly 1944. It is appropriateJu-ly titled ‘Closing the Gap’.

Michael will be a regular contributor and you will see more of his art in the next issue of Snake Eyes.

For more of a look now, see http:// www.warintheskies.com and http:// fineartamerica.com/profiles/mil-merchant.html

Well enough ranting I still have things that need doing but I hope you can help out. Thanks for reading.

John McDonnell’s Napoleonic's…

GGG member John McDonnell, runs his own blog site called Hammer & Banner which has over 3600 views.

He is a veteran gamer with many years in gaming... This issue John and his Prussians, have another go at beating his friend Andrew, who controls the French.

Still trying to work out how to beat or even break the French. I need to be able to inflict enough casualties to do anything to them. Considering my columns only have a 1 in 3 chance of actually charging. If I take even one casualty on the way in, I'm (through my usual magnificent die rolling) more than likely to be repulsed and left swinging in the breeze. My artillery seem to suffer a massive problem with dealing any damage at all, and my cavalry always seem to do nothing but force the French into squares where they then shoot us, and make us run away.

Going to try skirmishers in the next game to see if this changes anything!

Yes it's depressing, but I need company through the game and my friend Andrew enjoys the same, and it gets him out of the house.

Enjoy the photos

Dark Heresy

is a role playing game set in the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium, the decaying dark

future of Warhammer 40,000.

My name is Castella Borgia, otherwise known as Elli; I am an Acolyte of the Officio Assassinorum – Vindicare temple under the employ of Inquisitor Gelt. Fate has come for me… I take a look around the bridge. The mechanical man claiming to be Hastus had rigged the bridge to explode, but the threat is no more. Captain Odessa is dead. I let this sink in.

Earlier I had a communiqué from Inquisitor Gelt, informing me of my impending com-mission as Captain of the Faithful Intruder. A comcom-mission I was ready to turn down. ‘Captain’ is a title I have run from my whole life. I instruct the remaining crew to escort the captain’s body to the Medicae facility and begin to wander through the bowels of the ship, lost in my own thoughts. My mind takes me on a reflective journey through my past. A past I have run from day after day.

I was born in Hive Tarsus on the planet of Scintilla. It was my home, my playground, for 6 short years. I am the daughter of Padma and Akilah of the noble house Borgia. Rogue traders like many who have come before. Until my entire family, my friends, my teachers… all were killed in a horrific ‘accident’. I emphasize accident as rumours abound. The official report blames a series of human errors, a miscalculation on the plotted course, further exasperated by a novice navigator causing the warp drive to malfunction and tear the ship to pieces. But I know this is not true. I’ve looked into it, it doesn’t add up. Novice or not, our navigator Numitor Molineaux was above reproach. His abilities were unrivalled and to suggest he made a mistake on such a simple jump, a jump he’d made hundreds of times before, doesn’t sit well with me. Neither does the suggestion that my father could have made a mistake. This was charted space, no calculations required, so how does an error get made?

I come across some of the crew milling about aimlessly in the corridors, mumble a few words of concern and understanding, and give them fresh orders to occupy their time. They look relieved and continue about their duties. I continue on…

To this day I can’t recall how I came to be adrift in deep space, void suit on, rather than floating dead amongst the carcass of our ship. But adrift I was and bleak was my prospects. As luck would have it a passing pirate found me while searching for salvage and, upon recognizing my insignia and calculating the possible profit to be made, brought me on board as a valued ‘guest’. Four years I spent on board the Black Duck and as a valuable commodity, was kept always at the side of it’s Captain, Feistum. I quickly became more than just a guest, and became one of the crew. Feistum recognized my abilities and previous education, and enhanced them whenever possible. I learned much from him on crew morale, and the skills needed to captain a Ship. When he wasn’t paying attention, I would sneak away and work or train

with the crew. They became a substitute for the family I had lost. I’m now passing through the engineerium and note again the general malaise affecting the crew. I call the group together and praise their efforts throughout the current events. I assure them that if they had not been so vigilant the casualty rate would have been much higher. I direct them to scour and cleanse the area where the bodies were found, and finish repairing the drive cables, as an operational ship is vital to the remaining crews surviv-al. They now appear to be more deliberate in their actions. I keep walking… Over the course of my time on the Black Duck more reports came in regard-ing my families destruction. These reports weren’t so ‘official’ and it was

be-coming clear that someone by the name of Myrchella Sinderfell was fast heading the suspect list. And rewards were being offered for any information regarding possible survivors from my ship. Feistum and his crew, having become so fond of me,

(11)

decided not to claim these rewards, and instead used their influence to gain me entry inside the Officio Assassinorum where they hoped the skills I would master would help hide me from those who looked. Skills that I cannot divulge here. As my training progressed I came to the attention of the Inquisition, primarily Inquisitor Alaric Gelt of the Ordos Malleus, and was chosen to head several key missions before becoming embroiled in the whole Child of Destiny saga of which you have been made aware. (See the Sister Krankies Diaries for more info).

I am stopped by the master of ordinance, Holt Sawyer, a veteran of many battles before today. He looks withdrawn, the lines on his face more defined than usual, his eyes sunken deeper. He re-quests additional personnel to help with active duties, but this is a façade, I can see it in his stature, like so many I have come across today he has taken the loss of his captain hard, and is looking for direction. Then it dawns on me; this ship and its crew are lost without their captain. If someone with the right skills, the natural ability to lead, doesn’t step up soon we will all be consigned to oblivion. A lost ship among the stars. Which brings me back to the beginning. Fate has come for me… It’s time for me to claim my birthright and provide a beacon of hope for all on board. So here I am. “To the crew and guests on board. This is your Captain speaking. Captain Castella Borgia. Rogue Trader.”

Dogtown howler

Blood on the Plains...reports have come back from concerned citizens passing along roads in and out of Dogtown, about hearing gunfire and plenty of it. This intrepid reporter man-aged to gather some information of which I can share in this newspaper. Some of the Ranches that have struck trouble on their explorations have included, The O’Doney Hacienda, The GGG, Deadwood, The Bar ‘C’, Old Stump, the Hat Creek Cattle Coy, and Bugman Ranch. In fact, from a good source came information that two of these ranches had a stand off between 5 Cowboys from one ranch, and 4 Cowboys from another, and both had their Chuck Wagons with them. It concerns our townsfolk that selling off so many Ranch properties may not have been such a great idea. That being said, not all news is good news.

Edited & Published by Jacob Adams Esq.- Journalist & Photographer - Established 1867 Dogtown County - Member of Professional Newspapermen of N.Y.

Rivers and Mountain Ranges named, as Ranchers explore the new territory. Already new names are appearing on the map, as Ranchers make their mark. Two mountain ranges, the Tyran Mountains, and Spectre Mountains have been officially named. Likewise Clearwater River, Blood River, Serpents Leg, and Dribble River. If others have been found, their finders are keeping big secrets.

“Mayor Dumphrey isn’t handing the town over to anyone”, he stated last Monday. One of the new Ranch owners to purchase a cliam in Dog County was none other than old Dogtown Mayor, Marty O’Doney. Rumours have surfaced that Mr. O’Doney, now owner of the O’Doney Hacienda, might be eyeing off his old job. After hearing that Mr O’Doney may have been involved in some shootouts with his neighbour, Mayor Dumphrey was very clear that if it comes to the town’s top job, it is not for sale. The shootouts that Mayor Dumphrey, is referring to are the news of several such happenings in the last month. (See file picture below)

Another local resident, Bob Brown has gone missing from the locality with some people saying that he has set up a ranch, but don’t know where his investment has come from if he indeed has.

In other news, man eats his horse. See the fully story on page 4 of this newspaper.

Word has come back in, with regard to the new spreads all over Dog County, and it’s not all friendly…

We’re used to being friendly to all of our neighbours here in Dogtown, especially after what happened last time. Why even the new spreads started out all liking each other mostly…

The all of a sudden BAM. One dispute over who was in a river paddock and who owned what has lead to shoot outs all over the territory. What used to be solved with a hand-shake is now being duelled for or worse. Lucky we got lots of no account Cowboys, coming in looking for work.

Lucas Shelman, the town’s new publi-can, watches as the lumber loads are bought into town. He is good friends with Dennet Tull and plans to build a steamboat stop in our town...that can only be good for the economy.

Three Ranch Boss’s are rubbing their hands as the money flows. Rapid expansion and prime real estate have pro-pelled Ranch MacCarony, The Lucky ’O’ and The Double-horn to the top of the pile. Where will these savvy inves-tors be spending their new found wealth next? The sway of land values will be sure to go up and down as investors in the 25 Ranches maximise their land grab. After all in the end, there can be only one.

Newest Wagon on the market. Affordable, cheap and reliable as any transport across the plains is meant to be. This wagon will get you right across the state and back again, and still be ready to be used as your favourite Chuck Wagon when you want to set-tle down. Comes with a canvas in a choice of whites, box seats

for all of your storage needs, water barrel, ropes, tresses, and hobblers for the horses, when you need to stay over. Only $200 at Honest John’s

Trading Posts are up and running supplying the basic needs for the Ranch Hand on the go. You can even hire more staff for those growing ranches, as well as fully kit out your ammo, guns, dried meats and furs. Lumoise and Shooters Junction trading posts are ready to deal with all ranchers...no Indians

(15)

Lush Lands Grazing Lands Arid Lands Abundant Lands

The Dog County Range Wars players map, allows players in the campaign to gauge their expansion in the new territory as well as have a guess where their opponents might be. The colour coding shows where the real money is, in terms of land and income. Lush Lands that are worked, (that is to say that a Ranch Hand is holding that land at the end of the turn), is worth $100 income to that Ranch. Abundant Lands are worth $75, Grazing Lands are worth $50 and Arid Lands will produce $25 per month if worked. This information will allow players to plan their next expansion to create the most profit, and to defend the more expensive property, avoiding the cheaper lands. The black squares around the map represent Trading Posts, and the big one in the centre is where Dogtown is. The Red Squares are the Ranches. The dark green blobs are timbered hexes which when har-vested will become grazing lands. Grey colours are mountain ranges which like the rivers and trading posts, can be named as the players discover them. Silver can be found in the mountains, but it’s risky. You might lose that ranch hand. Red crosses show land clashes this turn where shoot outs have occurred.

Star Wars X-Wing

Stuart Shaw’s article inspired a game to occur here at GGG headquar-ters. GGG member Dari-an Chase finally threw his lot in and claimed Star Wars X-Wing as the game that he had been looking for, with a claim of never losing. I set out as a righteous gamer to prove him wrong, and show him that the old man wasn’t too bad himself.

Normally we would play without the additional weapons and upgrade, and just the basic ships. We drew our sides. Darian won the Rebels and I started with the Imperials which was fine for me. Now just to shoot Luke, Wedge, and that damn B-Wing.

I took all the Tie Fighters I could including Darth Vader in his Tie Fighter Advanced. Unfortunately what I didn’t take was notes, so the battle report will have to wait. My mistake was not killing the B-Wing as I chose to just avoid it and it’s multi-ple shields.

The game was 150 points as opposed to the normal 100. It does make it longer but I did want to see what these newly purchased ships could do.

The Tie Defender was cool but my ship of the match had to go to the Tie Phantom. It’s highest initiative card is a 7, yes but 4 attacks and add the Marksman card. Unfortunately Darian clued in on this as well and went after “Whisper” and the Tie Phantom soon joined my dead ships line on the edge of the mat, not from Darian however but my miscalculations that sent him off the edge of the game mat.

Darian’s fighter and my bane was Luke Skywalker, with R2D2 card and his own ability allowed him to repair his shields very quickly. After what seemed like half a day of manoeuvring around the star map it came down to Vader, with one hit re-maining, and Luke and the B-Wing circling like vultures. I knew that if I could stay ahead and turn to face this threat I might have altered the end result, but in turning from the B-Wing it was just not enough and good shooting ended the game as Darth Vader’s ship exploded.

Hence Darian was able to maintain his undefeated title, and did it again in a game a day later.

Star Wars X-Wing is a quick to learn and quick to play game. The core box set comes with an X-Wing and 2 Tie Fighters, and retails at around $50AUD.

On the Scene

By Glen Taylor

Challenge yourself without looking… Well this I did, and what follows is the story of it.

The Crocs below, belong to my friend John. A visit to his house found these ready for a Warmachine tourney. I liked the look of these guys and thought why not? With one week to go, why not join in.

No problem, but I had never played this game and owned no figures, so there was my challenge. Monday saw a trip to the store and below is what I purchased, thankfully again I had help from friends and brought exact points I needed.

Tuesday saw the last of models put together, and Wednesday the start of the painting.

By Friday with the painting finished, (picture below) all that was left is to read the rules and get to the tournament.

Second game vs Jon over the boats which I lost 20 – 2 but enjoyed myself. Saturday came and I arrived at the GJMWT 2014 tourney

hosted by The Blind Pig, to a bacon and egg roll and coffee. I started with a bye and Paul, first opponent, gave me a friend-ly game which helped me greatfriend-ly with rules knowledge.

Game 3 vs Jamie and I thought I was getting better lost 5—5

Warmachine and Hordes, is unlike any sys-tem I have played before but over the course of the 4 games found my way. The event was well run and I had a good time. Each of my opponents was more than willing to help a newbie and explain things. Thanks to Allen for running the event in its 7th year I believe and to all the workers who cooked breakfast and lunch as well as helper with setting up and packing up.

So as you can see I JUMPED and survived !! The outcome is a painted force that I can play with in a new game for me. New friends were made and more waiting in future games. Win / win at the end and who knows when I will jump again, thanks for sharing my journey with me

Snake Eyes Road Trip - Brisbane Independent Gamers (BIG) Glean and I set again, this time to a club called BIG, or Brisbane Inde-pendent Gamers. BIG has been around as far back as I can remem-ber, and a lot of local gamers would know them and probably have been to one of their tournaments. BIG has a long history, and is still going strong, as Glen and I found out. The club meets at 0900-1600 on the second Sunday of every month, at the Lavalla Centre, 58 Fernburg Road at Paddington. You can contact them online via http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Brisbanegamers/

Glen Verburgt is the man you want to speak to for further information about BIG. Glen also has a long history with Brisbane Independent Gamers. He assued me that the games that are played at the club are many and var-ied, citing games including Warham-mer Fantasy, WH40k, WarhamWarham-mer Ancients in 28mm, War of the Rings, Kings of War, Field of Glory Ancients, Napoleonics, American Civil War, Axis & Allies War at Sea, Flames of War and Bolt Action, Force on Force and Am-bush Alley, Dystopian Wars, DUST, Star Wars X-Wing and SAGA.

BIG

We met Dennis Misso and Glen playing Ipetus, Tom and Henry playing Bolt Action, Rhys and Chris playing Jugula, and Greg and Luke playing Dystopian Wars. There were pics that didn’t make this issue, and we only man-aged some shots of a game underway of Muskets & Tomahawks

Shattered Battlefield

(BB183)

contains two Pre-painted Shattered Woods or Muddy Ground terrain pieces.

Great War

The Great War of 1914-18 was global in its reach. Yet this global conflict would be decided by the mighty clashes upon the battlefields of Europe.

Muddy Ground

The 1918 Spring Offensives encoun-tered some wet weather, producing patches or whole battlefields of mud (though not on the same scale as 1916 and 1917).

You can either designate patches of your battlefield as Muddy or choose to call the whole battlefield Muddy. Muddy terrain is Slow Going to all teams.
