REWARDING EXCELLENCE

THROUGHOUT YOUR STUDIES

Thanks to our generous financial assistance programs, we reward our students for their excellence in academics, extracurricular activities or community engagement, both when they’re admitted and during their studies. Certain assistance is automatic, like the University of Ottawa admission scholarships, the French Studies Bursary and the Merit Scholarship, while you must apply through our Online Scholarships and Bursaries search engine for others. The following pages contain examples of admission and in-course scholarships offered by the University of Ottawa and our faculties. Be sure to check the eligibility criteria for the assistance you want closely and submit your applications by the deadlines indicated in Online Scholarships and Bursaries.

PAYING FOR YOUR STUDIES THROUGH A UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA ADMISSION SCHOLARSHIP

Admission scholarships are available to you if you’re applying directly from high school, college or CEGEP. They are not available to mature applicants. Your admission average is used to determine your eligibility for both a program of study and an admission scholarship. Information on how your admission average is calculated can be found on pages 46, 54 and 59 of the Admissions and Programs section of this document.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To qualify for an admission scholarship, you must meet all of the following conditions:

• Fulfill the admission requirements of the faculty in question

• Be registered full time, and for the first time, in an undergraduate program • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have protected person status

(unless otherwise indicated)

FINAL MARKS

Admission scholarship offers are conditional on you obtaining a final admission average of 80% or higher. If your final average is 80% or higher, you’ll receive the scholarship amount indicated on your original scholarship offer, or a higher amount based on your final average (see the table on page 5).

PAYING FOR YOUR STUDIES THROUGH GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL AID

Many students rely on government financial aid to pay for their studies. Indeed, receiving government financial aid is an eligibility criterion for some bursaries. Your loans are interest-free and don’t have to be repaid as long as you are a full-time student in an approved postsecondary program.

Depending on your province or territory of residence, you may be eligible for government student loans and bursaries. Visit the website for the financial aid program of your province or territory of residence to find out what’s available to you.

If you’re from Ontario, begin by visiting the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) website for more information on financial aid.

If you’re from Quebec, your level of financial aid will be adjusted based on the higher Ontario tuition fees. Therefore, you may receive a higher amount on your loan certificate.

If you’re from another province or territory, check out the details of its financial aid program. You may qualify for assistance even if you move to Ontario to study.

30% OFF ONTARIO TUITION

Are you an Ontario resident? You could be eligible for the

30% Off Ontario Tuition grant, worth $1,830 for the 2015-2016

academic year!

As an Ontario resident, you’re automatically considered for

this grant when you apply for OSAP. You can still apply for

this grant even if you choose not to apply for government

assistance. Visit the OSAP website for more details.

APPLY EARLY!

To increase your chances of receiving your funding in time for the start of the school year apply for government financial aid as soon as possible.
