ENRICHMENT TOUR: EUROPE JUNE 2020
FUN AT SCHOOL
Mrs Janine TobinDuring last week’s school-based camp, the Grade 10 learners had a Cha-Cha dance-off competition, to show off their smooth moves. Our male winner was Yoosuf Noutcha and our female winner was Ifeoma Ugbobuaku.
The learners had great fun learning a new dance style and it was a fantastic group activity where new learners to the school were made to feel welcome.
GRADE 10 RECYCLING PROJECT:
Mrs Wendy LongwitzAll Grade 10 learners are required to bring recycling material next week to get a stamp on their Curro Aurora supporters’ card for ‘Green Campus’.
Each learner is required to bring 3 shopping plastic bags filled with: 1. Tins/glass items
2. Paper
3. Plastic items
All of this will be sent to our recycling depot on campus.
The closing date for Grade 10 learners is Monday, 27 January.
This initiative is to promote recycling in our school and looking after planet.
SPORT

SWIMMING:
The Grade 8-10 Inter-House Swimming Gala took place on Friday, 17 January. Cheered along by spirited supporters from all the houses, Atlantis won with 238 points. Discovery were 2nd on 183, Challenger 3rd with 164 and Apollo 4th with 115.
The overall winners will be determined after the Curro Aurora Swimming Championships. Apollo and Atlantis shared the spirit cup.
GOLF:
Dainfern College hosted a league match at Dainfern Country Club on Monday, 20 January. Results: 1. Curro Aurora 2. St Benedicts College 3. Dainfern College 4. Curro Aurora ‘B’ SOFTBALL:
The King’s College hosted the softball teams on Wednesday, 22 January. Results:

Congratulations to the following Grade 11 learners who have selected as FEDA directors:

MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD
The South African Mathematics Olympiad is the largest Olympiad in South Africa and we would like to encourage our learners to participate.
It is voluntary and open to all Grade 8 and 9 learners and any Mathematics learners in Grades 10 – 12. The first round is written on 12 March 2020. The entry fee is R20 and payable to the learners Mathematics Teacher.
Learners who attain 50% or higher in the first round qualify for the second round which is written on the 14th May.
It is well-known that mathematics competitions generate a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity for the subject.

Every participant in the SAMO papers will be challenged by at least one problem and hence his or her problem-solving skills will improve. Problem solving skills can be further improved by carefully working through the solutions of these rounds.
Creative problem-solving skills are very necessary and very marketable in today's technically oriented marketplace. This marketplace is now global and South Africa needs to be very
competitive. Hence, we need expert problem solvers. Practice in problem solving will help to train our future leaders in technological development.
