Principal

Dear Parents,

Holy Week is most definitely a very sacred time of the year, for it is now that we will commemorate and remember the last week of Jesus' life on this earth. These are the days leading up to the great Easter Feast. Holy Week is extremely important for all Christians. The greatest focus of the week is the Passion (suffering) and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the events that led up to it, known as the Easter Triduum.

On Holy Thursday, we re-enact the Lord's Last Supper, which He shared with His apostles on the night He was betrayed and arrested. On Good Friday, the day of the crucifixion and death of our Lord, we have the veneration of the Cross. A service is held at three o'clock in the afternoon (the hour He is believed to have died). Holy Saturday is a vigil. We keep watch for the expectant rising of Our Saviour. Our responsibility as partners in faith is to immerse children in our Christian story and allow them to soak up the beautiful nature of this liturgical season.

This week every year level has shared a Holy Week liturgy. These liturgies have been a great time of prayer and a time to prepare for Easter. The students have been excited to perform their parts and it was so lovely to see many parents and grandparents come along and join us all. I am hoping that through their participation in the liturgies they are able to gain a more deeper understanding of the religious significance of Easter.

From the Principal cont…

Easter is also a time for bunnies and chocolate eggs; a time of fun when there are egg hunts, Easter bonnet parades and family reunions. It is also the greatest celebration in the Catholic church. For Christians, the gift of Easter is the gift of Jesus dying and then rising from the dead. It is a time of hope, a time for faith in the future and an opportunity for new beginnings. Over the course of the last 12 months, many of us have had to draw on hope to sustain us as we faced the most extraordinary of challenges in living through the effects of a pandemic that completely rocked our world. In his book, Let us Dream, The Path to a Better Future, by Pope Francis which was written while he was in lockdown, he says, ‘To come out of this crisis better, we have to see clearly, choose well, and act right. Let’s talk about how. Let us dare to dream.’ Pope Francis saw the crisis as a time of

transformation

and ‘see clearly, choose well and act right’ is a simple and powerful process for renewal that leads us to fresh thinking and concrete steps that guide us to act differently; more expressly to shape a kinder, more just and compassionate world.

SPORTS DAY and END OF TERM 1

It’s hard to believe that we are in the last weeks of Term 1 and next week we will conclude our Term with Sports Day on Friday 9 April. OLOG Sports Day will be held at Sacred Heart College Middle School, Champagnat Campus at 28 Percy Avenue, Mitchell Park from 8:45am-1:00pm.

There is a lot of excitement building towards Sports Day. Children are working and connecting with their House Teams and our House Leaders are doing so well to prepare the children for their Sports Day.

Please remember to register your attendance for the day and also to maintain your social distancing while at Sports Day.

Term 2 begins on Wednesday 28 April.

I wish you all a Happy Easter. May you be blessed with peace and happiness.

Peace and Blessings Josette Charles Principal

dscuteri@olog.catholic.edu.au Lent and Holy Week Liturgies

Lent began six weeks ago on Ash Wednesday. In this time, we have been preparing ourselves for Easter. Some people have given up something during lent and some people have promised to make ‘A’ Choices to become closer to God.

As a school we have raised money through Project Compassion to those who are in need.

Last Wednesday the Year 5’s and 6’s participated in the Caritas Fun Run/Walk with 8 other schools within our region. Great fun was had by all and the day finished with a delicious sausage sizzle.

During this week (Holy Week) the children at Our Lady

of Grace School re-enacted and remember the days leading up to Christ’s death. We began with Palm Sunday by the R/1’s, followed by the Last Supper by the Year 2’s, Gethsemane by the Year 3/4’s and Stations of the Cross by Year 5.

From the APRIM cont…

On Tuesday after Easter Sunday the Year 6’s will re-enact the Resurrection.

It has been delightful to watch the children participating so wholeheartedly and reverently. Easter is a great reminder that Christ died and rose once and all for each one of us.

His death and resurrection can transform our lives as we endeavour to live lives that know the freedom of goodness, lives that have love for our neighbour, lives that respect all creation and lives that restore hope and mercy.

Prayer

Lord, help us to accept the grace of Christ’s resurrection

Let us be renewed by God’s mercy. Let us know the love of Jesus.

Let us enable the power of love and transform our lives.

Let us become agents of his mercy, channels through which God

can protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish.

Amen

Project Compassion Boxes

If you haven't already brought in your Project

Compassion Boxes please bring them into school

after Easter.

May you have a holy and happy Easter and we surely will look forward to having a restful break during the school holidays.

Wishing you God’s Blessing Debbie Scuteri

PE Leaders Day

PE Leaders Day, 3oth March

On Tuesday, 10 students from Year 6 attended a day dedicated to leadership in sport at St Martin De Porres School, Sheidow Park. It is a day designed for students to meet other sport leaders in catholic schools and to begin learning techniques for teaching students within our school to be active through a range of programs. The students were involved in practical sessions gaining tips for PE Teachers and other school leaders. They had a taste of running a game, setting up, explaining games and planning lessons.

This year the students aim to develop programs

with the school to get OLOG moving!
