Panther’s Soccer

Dear Parents,

As another school year begins it’s time to start planning for Panther soccer! This letter is to inform you as to what is expected of the players and parents throughout this season.

To start the season off right, I want all players and parents to understand the commitment needed and expected from the beginning to the end of the season.

Commitment for the players means that they will be at every practice unless an excuse, either written or oral, is given to the coach a day prior to practice. Commitment also means that they will work hard to better the talents and abilities God has graciously given them.

I would also like to add that players must have commitment in the classroom first.

Academics come before athletics. The children are at Zion to grow in their academic knowledge and grow in their faith. Playing sports is just one of the blessings they receive through attending Zion. I will keep in contact with the teachers and any student who has incomplete work or whose grades are D or lower in any subject will not be able to participate. Please work with your child so that their homework is completed on time and their grades stay in good standing.

Commitment for you, the parents, means that you will get your child to every practice and also be responsible in getting your child to all games. If you cannot get your child to an event (practice, game, etc.) it will be your responsibility to call another parent and make other arrangements. We will be practicing off campus once a week at Bear Creek Park which is about 10 minutes from Zion. I also request that you inform the school a day prior to any game you are planning to attend. This way, there will be a list of those going to the games for anyone looking for a ride. Please remember that neither the school nor the coaches are responsible for getting your child to and from soccer events. It is up to you to do this. Finally, commitment means that you will support your Panthers. Setting strong Christian examples as you support your children throughout the season is very important.

The players will need to have soccer cleats, shin guards and a water bottle for every practice and games. I will hand out NEW game jerseys the after practice on Sep. 8th. The students need to wear black shorts with their game jersey. Please wash the jersey in cold water and allow to air dry.

Attached to this letter is the season schedule. Please note the change!

Wednesday, Sep. 17th will be a game day instead of Saturday, Sep. 19th as the first schedule handed out at registration had. We will practice on Tuesdays (Zion play field) and Thursdays (Bear Creek Park). Please return the permission slip and $35.00 fee by Aug. 30th, the first practice at Zion after school 3:45-5:00pm.

Thank you for your commitment and support.

Mr. Adickes

Parent and Player Information

The goal of our soccer program to:

1. Glorify God in all that we say and do on and off the field.

2. Familiarize our players with the game of soccer—how it is played, what is expected in various positions, and strategy for scoring and defending.

3. Develop skills necessary to becoming the best soccer player that God has made you.

4. Exercise the body to become more physically fit.

5. Enjoy the exhilaration of athletic competition and HAVE FUN!

Our expectations of YOU:

1. You will display and demonstrate a willing attitude.

2. You will give 100% no matter what position you are playing: offense, defense, or sideline. That means you are into the game and cheering your teammates even if you are not playing at the time; ready to go in at any position at a moment’s notice. Give the coaches and other athletes your respect.

3. You will be on time and attend practice and games unless there is an unusual circumstance keeping you from doing so. If that is the case, you should have the courtesy to notify the coach as soon as you know.

4. You will keep your grades up and have your schoolwork finished on a regular basis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to play for the Zion Panthers for a time to be determined by your teacher and parents, as schoolwork comes before extracurricular activity.

5. You will in thankfulness to your Savior show love and respect to:

a. Your teammates by being an encourager and helper

b. Your coaches by listening and trying your hardest to do what you are asked

c. Your parents by thanking them for allowing you to play and transporting you to practices and games

d. The players on the other teams who are our fellow citizens in God’s kingdom

e. The referee who is authority on the field (OVER)

Parents will need to arrange for your transportation to and from practices and games. Many times car pools work well for our away games. If you have tried to arrange a ride without success, talk to Mr. Adickes.

The soccer fee $35.00. It will help us pay for NEW uniforms, equipment, field rental, league fees, and cover other miscellaneous expenses. Please pay in cash or by check to Zion Lutheran when you bring back your permission slip for playing by the first

practice on Tuesday, August 30

th

. You may give it to Mr. Adickes.
