Capita’s software services business is a leading supplier of software solutions to the public and private

sectors. With over 25 years’ experience supplying quality systems and services throughout the UK, Capita

has repeatedly demonstrated an understanding of the developments, challenges and requirements of its

customers within the public sector.

Capita’s software services business is a wholly owned subsidiary of Capita plc, a FTSE100 company and the

UK’s leading provider of business process outsourcing and integrated professional support services. Driven

by redefining and transforming services to the public, Capita has a proven track record in development,

implementation and on-going support services.

Capita has an excellent track record of growth, both organically and by acquisition. The software services

business employs over 540 staff and is based from offices in Cirencester, London, Newbury, Oldham,

Solihull, Swindon and Trowbridge.

Capita has seen strong and consistent growth, thriving on the development of sophisticated, quality

systems delivered to tight legislative timescales. Our goal is to provide software solutions to assist our

2013

• Capita releases web-based staff interface to the library management system, Soprano.

• Capita launches the latest version of its Swordfish electronic document management solution: SF10.3. • Capita’s new look OPENHousing system, Version 12,

is launched.

• Parent Portal is launched – a solution that

gives parents online access to a wealth of real-time information on how their child is progressing through their studies.

• London Borough of Barking and Dagenham goes live with the largest implementation of Capita

TotalMobile solution to date for housing and repairs, with over 120 users.

• Capita launches Stato, its library management system dedicated to serving the further education market.

• Capita delivers a major new software solution, Local Welfare Assistance / Scottish Welfare Fund, to enable local authorities to administer community care grants and crisis grants, previously managed by DWP. • Changes to the way the DWP report changes in

circumstances results in new software being developed for automatically processing ATLAS records, and Capita’s Xantura partnership extends to include risk and verification for ATLAS automation. • Capita provides a unique solution for users of its

council tax software enabling them to trace debtors and evaluate their ability to pay in real time. • Capita launches online discount reviews, online

discount applications and cancellations for council tax.

• Connect, Capita’s citizen self-service solution, gets a new look, improving navigation and making signing up for online services simpler and more intuitive than ever.

2012

• Capita releases cloud-based hosted library management system, Chorus.

• Capita’s electronic document solutions business

unit is incorporated within Capita’s software services division.

• Capita launches the UK’s first shared public and academic library management system with

University of Worcester’s and Worcestershire County Council’s libraries.

• Capita launches sCloud, a system that provides income management, Paye.net (including Chip & PIN) and eReturns as a hosted service, running within highly secure and resilient data centres.

• EasyMobile Payments is launched, allowing staff to take customer payments on the move using an easy- to-use and proven handheld device, which includes an integrated printer, Chip & PIN and card

swipe reader.

• The number of Capita’s payment management customers continues to grow, including over 200 local authorities, more than 20 housing

organisations, over 20 further and higher education institutions and significant numbers within health and the private sector.

• Capita’s managed service processes more than 25 million card payments, valued at over £2.3 billion – a 10 per cent increase on the previous year.

• Capita launches Arrangements Manager, a back office and online solution for revenues special payment arrangements, and also RecOverview providing an holistic view of a council tax account.

• A new online eClaim form for benefits is released, incorporating additional configurability, new look and feel and improved back office integration. • Capita’s self-service solution becomes ‘Connect’ and

provides a corporate web platform opening up the web channel to any back office system.

• Partnering with Xantura, Capita provides risk and verification for new benefit claims.

• Capita launches Engage – the customer-friendly, diverse smartphone app.

• UNIT-e mPad is released - a smartphone solution enabling students and staff to access information about courses, timetables, exams, attendance and achievement.

• Capita launches Council Tax Support, a new local scheme software module, including including a modelling toolkit to help local authorities deliver local council tax reduction schemes following the abolition of Council Tax Benefit.

2011

• Capita’s software services business is awarded a Buying Solutions framework agreement for Local Government Software Application Solutions, Lots 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9.

• Capita totals 15 revenues and benefits shared service partnerships constituting 38 UK local authorities.

• Capita’s libraries business is formed following the acquisition of Talis Information Limited’s

library division.

• Capita launches its new-look Efficiency Version for revenues and benefits.

• Capita releases the white paper, ‘What Every CEO Needs to Know about Shared Services’.

2010

• Capita’s first payment management shared service customers go live.

• Capita’s payment management service processes approximately 20 million payments by credit/debit card valued at over £1.6 billion over the year. • Capita launches its corporate mobile and flexible

working solution: Capita TotalMobile.

Two white papers are published in support of the launch, ‘Going Mobile: A Business Case for Mobile Working in Local Authorities’ and ‘Getting More From Mobile: Adopting a Whole Organisation Approach to Mobile Working in Local Authorities to Save Time and Money’.

• Capita’s software services business is awarded a Buying Solutions framework agreement for Software Application Solutions, Lots 1 and 4.

2009

• Capita launches the first dedicated software solution: Capita Support, tailored to meet the needs of both Commissioners and Providers within the Supporting People arena.

• Capita becomes one of the first UK-based vendors of payment applications to achieve the Payment Application Data Security

Standard (PA-DSS).

• Dolphin electronic document management and workflow solution launches with Capita

Financial Group.

• Capita releases Process and Performance Manager for revenues and benefits.

• Capita launches a new web-based application providing council officers, housing associations and citizens with personalised, instant access to housing and support services.

• Mobile ‘Change in Circumstances’ application launched for housing benefits.

• Over one million credit/debit card payments

are processed via Capita’s payment management managed service in a single month.

• Capita releases its tailored further and higher education HR module: UNIT-e Human Resources.

2008

• Capita strengthens its housing business through the acquisition of IBS OPENSystems Ltd.

• Capita’s software services division partners with SunGard to launch new software to improve local authorities’ risk and verification processes.

• Capita launches Integration Portal application for revenues and benefits.

• Capita sees its first payment management customer go live with Secure Bureau Service.

• By December, Capita’s further and higher education business has versions of UNIT-e for every country in the UK.

2007

• Capita’s life and pensions business (Zurich) becomes first customer of Dolphin document management and workflow solution.

• Capita’s software services business acquires the software division of Spectrum Computer Services Plc.

• The e-Citizen solution is awarded E-Delivery Team status approval through the Government Gateway Alliance programme.

• The first Capita payment management customer goes live with speech recognition.

• Capita’s software services division becomes the first of the major payment service providers to the

public sector to achieve Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) certification. • Capita releases a white paper report encouraging

local governments to see shared services as a reality, not just a vision.

• Capita introduces a £10,000 award called Inspire to help fund further education colleges’ community enrichment projects. The first winners are the College of North East London and Sussex Downs College.

2006

• Capita invests in excess of £1million in the development of its housing system to ensure the software solution leads the market for RSLs, local authority housing departments and councils transferring their stock to housing associations for ALMOs.

• Capita’s first revenues and benefits shared service customer goes live.

• Capita’s software services business gains re-accreditation to the e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF).

• Capita’s further and higher education solution, Vocational Qualifications Management and Tracking (VQMT) is released.

• Capita’s further and higher education business is awarded Microsoft Gold Partner status.

2005

• Capita Randall Lyons and Capita Document Services merge to form Capita’s total document solutions division.

• Capita plc acquires Randall Lyons Ltd, who provide electronic document management and workflow software.

• Capita’s housing workflow solution is launched. • Capita releases the higher education version

of UNIT-e.

2004

• Desktop Summary launches, providing new features supporting CRM, One-Stop Shop and Call

Centre operations for Capita’s revenues and benefits customers.

• Local Housing Allowance (Pathfinder) application for benefits is launched.

• Discount changes for Capita’s council tax solution is launched.

• Education Benefits application is redeveloped for Capita’s revenues and benefits offering.

• Asbestos Management module is launched for housing.

2003

• Capita’s software services business is created, following the re-branding of Academy Information Systems.

• Capita reaches its 100th revenues and benefits customer.

• Skillwise (computer-aided training) is launched for Capita’s revenues and benefits products.

• Streetwise module for Non Domestic Rates (NDR) inspections launches.

• Capita’s Site of Excellence scheme is launched to celebrate the extraordinary achievements and innovations of colleges and universities. • New Working and Child Tax Credits module is

launched for benefits.

• Local Land and Property Gazetteer module is launched for council tax.

• Pension Credits for benefits is launched.

• Streetwise Fraud application is launched for benefits.

2002

• NDR Revaluation software is released.

• Discretionary Housing Payments and Streetwise Verification Framework applications are launched for benefits.

• Rent Service application for Benefits is launched. • Streetwise module for council tax Inspections is released as an innovative step to a single point of access to all revenues and benefits applications. • Rent service application for benefits is launched • Capita’s core management information system,

• Capita re-writes its existing suite of educational software to reflect the changing face of the education sector and names it UNIT-e.

• The first launch of Capita’s revenues and benefits self-service functionality occurs at Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.

• Benefits Development Fund is launched at customers’ request.

• Online link to the Valuation Office website for NDR is introduced.

• Verification Framework is released for benefits. • Windows NDR is released.

• A major £3million investment is released for product development to ensure Academy Revenues, Benefits, Housing, Income Management and associated software offerings maintain their position at the forefront of IT in the Public Sector.

• Academy acquires Crest Cash Receipting.

1997

• Academy acquires Imasys Cash Receipting and Income Management business.

1996

• Windows Council Tax and Benefits is released.

1995

• Academy acquired Sherwood’s Housing software, resulting in the rebranding of the housing application as Academy Housing.

• ABF Payments, Overpayments and NDR applications are released.

1994

• Academy Information Systems is formed and quickly established as major new force in the Local

Government software market.

1993

• Mainframe VME council tax product is released. • Academy acquires West Wiltshire Software Ltd.,

including its revenues and benefits products.
