What programs and initiatives has your school found successful in the recruitment of minority and/or female students?

Hult International Business School, offering a top-ranked one-year U.S. MBA program, is famous for its diverse student body, which comes from over 50 countries, from continents including Africa, Asia, Europe, Eurasia and the Americas. To ensure that diversity is achieved in class, Hult has a global recruiting team based in five key locations: Boston, London, Dubai, Hong Kong and China. Our admissions office travels to over 30 countries a year to bring quality students from every corner of the world to the program. As a result of the global marketing and recruiting effort, Hult has an alumni network represented by over 120 countries and a student body covering five continents.

Hult’s new Dubai campus, inaugurated in September 2008, has marked a key milestone for Hult’s focus in achieving diversity and promoting cross-cultural awareness. The Dubai MBA program has attracted students from 34 countries and is believed to be the most international MBA program in the Middle East region.

In addition, Hult is a member of National Society for Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA), an organization that exists to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development and prepare Hispanics for leadership positions throughout the United States, so that they will be equipped with the cultural awareness and sensitivity important in the success of today’s diverse work force.

Hult offers comprehensive financial aid options including scholarships, fellowships and loans. Scholarships are administered based on merit, with a special focus to increase the representation of female and minority students.

PROMINENT ALUMNI/FACULTY

Please provide information about prominent minority faculty members at your school.

The diversity in Hult is not only found in the student side; 80 percent of the Hult global faculty have extensive international experience and many are citizens of countries other than the United States. Their outstanding academic credentials, combined with real-life experience running and managing successful businesses in the international space, are one of the great assets of Hult MBA program.

Farhoud Kafi,professor of national strategies

Professor Kafi has had more than 25 years of business and management experience. He is the founder and board member of Plexus Solutions, a Boston-area consulting firm. He served as CEO of Matrix Corporation and vice president of LexCom, Inc. and Links International, Inc. Professor Kafi has delivered numerous presentations on economic development, foreign investment, international trade, economic policy and national strategies. His consulting activities have entailed cost-benefit analyses, risk assessments and strategic planning. Professor Kafi has served on the faculties of Brandeis University, Suffolk University, Northeastern University and Boston University.

Hitendra Patel, director of the Center for Innovation, Excellence and Leadership, professor of innovation and strategy

Dr. Patel is director of the Center for Innovation, Excellence and Leadership. He was a senior leader and cofounder of Monitor Group’s Innovation Practice and was responsible for Asia and Latin America. Before Monitor, Hitendra was a senior manager at Arthur D Little. As a management consultant, Hitendra has made lasting impact with all types of companies by helping them identify new engines for growth and develop their own capacity to innovate. Prior to consulting, Hitendra worked at Motorola in the portable energy space and is the owner of six patents. He is also a founder of various venture-backed companies in Brazil, Mexico and the United States. Hitendra is the co-author of 101 Innovation Breakthroughsand The State of Innovation at the Firm Level in Singaporeand in the process of writing his third book, Thinking and Acting Differently to Make Innovation Real.

Ravi Ramamurti, Jeff Bornstein Senior Fellow, professor of economics

Dr. Ramamurti is the Jeff Bornstein Senior Fellow and professor of international business at Northeastern University, Boston, where he has taught since 1982 (with short leaves of absence). He obtained his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad, graduating at the top of his class, and his DBA from Harvard Business School. His research and consulting focus is on corporate strategy and business-to-government relations in emerging markets. He has been a visiting professor at the Wharton School (2006 to 2007), MIT’s Sloan School (1998 to 2000), the Fletcher School (2002), IMD Switzerland (since 1999) and Harvard Business School (1986 to 1988). He has been a consultant to several private companies, to international organizations, such as the World Bank, USAID and the United Nations and to the governments of more than a dozen emerging economies. Dr. Ramamurti was elected chair (president) of the Academy of Management’s international management division, which has 2,800 scholar-members from around the world.

Jehiel Zif, professor of marketing

Professor Zif holds engineering degrees from Technion, Israel, and an MBA and PhD from New York University. He was a member of the faculty at Tel-Aviv University and lectured for many years in executive programs at Harvard Business School, the Wharton School and Northwestern University

and in many programs around the world. He was elected Professor of the Year at Hult in December 2005. Professor Zif has extensive consulting experience in many industries and was previously the president of a startup U.S. firm funded by venture capital.

Please provide information about prominent minority alumni from your school.

George Bowman, Class of 1982, vice president of community affairs, State Street Bank & Trust

George Bowman, a 1982 graduate of Hult (then known as the Arthur D. Little Management Education Institute) serves as the vice president of community affairs for State Street Bank & Trust. Based in Boston, George oversees the awarding of grant monies to organizations in the community from the State Street Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the bank.

Please provide information about prominent female faculty members at your school.

Agnieszka Kuzniarski, professor of management communication, associate dean of student affairs, Dubai

Before joining Hult in Dubai as associate dean of student affairs and professor of management communication, Dr. Kuzniarski was a lecturer of business communication at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. Dr. Kuzniarski has engaged in research on intercultural aspects of professional communication and has been an academic writing and professional communication consultant. She also taught for several years at the University of Michigan English Language Institute, helping to improve the English writing skills of international students, and was a research fellow in second language acquisition. Previously, Dr. Kuzniarski prepared candidates in Poland for Cambridge University’s Certificates in English, and acted as a freelance interpreter and translator in English, Russian and Polish.

Mary Jane Norton, professor of management communication

Professor Norton has also been teaching at Babson College for the past seven years and has been a management development and corporate communication consultant for the past 30 years.

Yael Zif, professor of leadership

Dr. Zif has extensive experience in leading training and development programs for managers in different cultures and environments. She has served on the faculty of the management department and executive MBA program of Tel-Aviv University since 1982 and at the Graduate School of Management of Boston University since 1987. Her areas of expertise are courses and workshops on leadership, organizational behavior and cross-cultural communications. A truly international educator, Dr. Zif has also been a visiting professor in a joint program between Northwestern University (Kellogg) and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. She lectured at Wharton’s executive education program, Harvard Institute of International Development, Arthur D. Little School of Management, Catholica University in Chile and Central European University in Budapest. Dr. Zif earned her PhD in humanistic, developmental and organizational studies from Boston University, her master’s in religious education from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and her bachelor’s from Yeshiva University.

Gladys Souda, professor of management communications

Professor Souda is a professional consultant at Wordpower Communications, Boston. She provides group communications training at major banks, investment firms and other organizations. Before joining Wordpower, Professor Souda worked for 10 years in the financial services industry. At Kidder Peabody, Los Angeles, she traded municipal bonds for retail and institutional clients. At J.J. Kenney/Drake, New York, she worked as an institutional broker. Professor Souda is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Michele Souda, professor of management communications

Dr. Souda has served on the faculty of the John F. Kennedy Institute of Government at Harvard University. Founder and president of Wordpower Communications, she has taught business communications and writing for over 25 years. Before joining Harvard, Dr. Souda cofounded the business and technical communications programs at Northeastern University. She has served as the New England director of the National Book Critics Circle and has published numerous articles in such prominent publications as The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald, The Nationand The Christian Science Monitor. Dr. Souda earned her PhD from the University of Wisconsin.

CURRICULUM AND RESEARCH

Please provide information on any classes and concentrations that focus on issues related to women or minorities. Leadership in the Global Village: Increasing Personal Power and Influence

“The world is a global village” encapsulates the interconnectivity of nations and states. To be effective in this global village, international managers must be aware of the personal, cultural and national factors that often influence business decisions. This course aims at heightening this awareness. It applies theory, practice and experiential learning to enhance self-awareness, adaptation and tolerance. It explores the functions, expectations and qualifications of effective leadership in the global village.

The global citizenship course conducted by Professor Rambo focuses on the impact that business enterprises have on society and our environment in response to growing demands from the public, NGOs and governments that corporations accept more responsibility for their activities and actions. The course undertakes the challenge of defining and arriving at an understanding of the meaning, importance and implications of global citizenship and corporate social responsibility on corporations and their multiple stakeholders.

Please describe any symposiums or special lectures that focus on diversity and minority issues organized and/or sponsored by your school. Global Rotation Program

Hult’s Global Rotation Program is an integral part of Hult’s international MBA experience that allows students to gain insight into the world’s key economies. The cultural training session is offered before students’ departure to the other Hult campuses to enrich the learning experience and provide students with the opportunity to develop excellent knowledge about the city and culture. Students can also join Hult-sponsored networking events with local professionals and attend the seminars and a speaker series featuring business leaders in the region.

ORGANIZATIONS AND STUDENT LIFE

The breadth of experience, insights and cultural perspectives that Hult students bring to the classroom creates an extraordinary learning experience. The cultural diversity has also added fun to Hult’s intense and demanding learning pace. Hult students host a series of cultural activities throughout the MBA program, such as the Culture Quest, which is a social activity that focuses on different country at a time. Students representing the country in focus will lead the cultural exploration journey, which is open to the community. The whole event is marked by an international film night. It is a great way to expand and share the knowledge about a particular country or region. In addition, Hult students have become more actively involved in preparing themselves and their classmates for their future careers. Several clubs have been founded since 2005 and have active student involvement. Hult Latin American Club (HLAC)

Hult is widely recognized for its international student body that has helped create a global network for students, professors and alumni. As an important part of the cultural wealth and diversity of the school, the Latin American community aims to promote professional development and cultural sharing inside and outside the classroom with the creation of the HLAC.

Hult Asia Business Club (HABC), formerly known as Hult Asia-Pacific Economic Club

The Hult Asia Business Club comprises students who have an interest in the developments in the Asia-Pacific Region. The club aims to help actualize the social and professional aspirations of both Asian and non-Asian students who have an interest in Asia. HABC is part of the network of Asian Business Clubs in Boston.

Hult International Women’s Association (HIWA)

The association was established in 2006 to seek a forum where women can share information with other professional women in their class, school and alumni network. The mission is to foster the development of international women business leaders who impact their communities with both a local and global outlook. HIWA recognizes that the MBA experience extends beyond the curriculum and encourages Hult community building across geographical boundaries and cultures. HIWA seeks to provide linkages for relationship building, networking, well-being and career focus.

Hult European Club

The club supports the professional development of its members, promoting activities and events that help students find job opportunities in the United States or Europe, establishing networking with the European alumni and with the existing European student associations of other schools in Boston. Hult International Business School is a member of the New England-Latin America Business Council. NELABC is a nonprofit organization that links businesses in New England and Latin America. The council helps members build on historical experiences and existing relationships, and facilitates new and emerging opportunities for inter-regional trade and investment.

Members of the New England-Latin America Business Council are international companies and business professionals working in all aspects of international trade, including accounting, consulting, customs, education, finance, freight forwarding, government, import/export, international law, manufacturing, sales and marketing, technology and transportation.

Hult’s diverse student body is unmatched by other U.S. business school. With a student body representing over 50 countries, our students are looking for career opportunities beyond geographical boundaries. At Hult, we have established a global career services network with dedicated resources in key job markets to support international careers. Our global career services teams are based in Boston, London, Dubai and Shanghai.

The school offers myriad campus activities to support Hult students in their employment search. Company information sessions are hosted where human resources representatives speak about their firms and MBA opportunities.
