Gary Mortimer

is a 40-year-old

Senior Project Manager from West

Sussex. He enjoys his career

working for a health service

provider but has struggled with his

hearing in certain environments.

Working in an open plan office, keeping up with family conversations and watching television began to get more difficult. Gary previously only wore one hearing instrument but has recently been fitted with two new devices from Siemens.

“I used to have a problem hearing in the office and at home. Now I have been fitted with IMPACT R the sound is very clear and they are really comfortable to wear,” said Gary. “Another huge benefit is the great gadgets that are compatible with Tek™. Using it, I have noticed a great difference in the quality

of sound, particularly when listening to music.”

Christine Van Rooyen

is a

57-year-old Clinical Services Head

from North Yorkshire. Enjoying a

fast moving career, Christine was

looking for her next career step

when she started struggling to

keep up with conversations

at work.

She found herself missing things in meetings and felt

embarrassed that she appeared confused to colleagues or gave the impression she did not understand what was being said.

It was only as the problems worsened that Christine started to realise that she was not hearing properly and was prompted by an advertisement to get her hearing tested.

“Despite all the problems that I was experiencing, I was surprised to find that I had a hearing loss. Getting fitted with a hearing instrument gave me back my confidence and my career. I am amazed at the difference it has made,” said Christine.

“I like the fact that you only have to change the program on one hearing instrument and the other automatically adjusts. It’s great when you’re in a hurry, in a meeting or theatre as it's less conspicuous than trying to adjust both hearing instruments at the same time.”

Bob Haddon

is an 87-year-old

retired electrical salesman from

West Sussex who has been deaf for

the last ten years.

Initially, Bob refused to recognise he had a hearing problem, even though family members would comment on how loud he was talking and the fact that he had difficulties hearing full conversations and using the telephone. Others would also comment that they could hear his TV from the end of the drive.

On reaching his mid-eighties, Bob realised it wasn’t fair to expect his family and friends to keep repeating themselves and so he opted to seek the advice of an audiologist. Bob was fitted with silver binaural Siemens IMPACT M hearing instruments, which were integrated with Siemens Tek™. The

Bluetooth receiver was then configured to connect Bob’s IMPACTS to a range of devices including his house phone, TV and radio player.

“As I was a wireless operator in Burma during the war, I think it is quite fitting that I’m now benefiting from Bluetooth wireless technology. Once I was fitted with IMPACT I was amazed at the difference it made.

"Keeping in touch with my family is the most important thing to me and I feel my new hearing instruments are making a huge difference to not only me but my family too. The sound clarity and quality is excellent for watching the TV and very good for listening to music as I can now listen at a much lower volume than before.”

Robert Bennett

is a 64-year-old

Operational Support Manager from

East Sussex who has worn hearing

instruments for a number of years.

Due to the nature of his job, which is based at Gatwick Airport, Robert wanted the latest technology to keep up with the demands of his day to day role.

Robert struggled to answer mobile phone calls as he first had to remove one of his hearing instruments from his ear, something he was also quite self-conscious about. This, coupled with the fact that he works in such a noisy environment, meant Robert needed more from his hearing instruments.

He was fitted with silver binaural Siemens IMPACT DP hearing instruments, which were integrated with Siemens Tek™. The

Bluetooth receiver was then configured to connect Robert’s IMPACTs to a range of devices including his house phone, TV and radio.

“I previously wore Siemens PRISMA hearing instruments, which helped me enormously in both work and home life situations, but having worn them for a number of years I decided I wanted to upgrade the technology.”

“Since being fitted with IMPACT, I have already noticed a huge difference. I wear the instruments for 16-18 hours a day and the Tek system is better than anything I have used in the past. They are extremely comfortable to wear in all listening

environments. Overall I have found them to be excellent.”

Kellie Moody

is a 25-year-old

make-up artist and model from

Leicester and has been deaf since

birth. Kellie has had to deal with

many issues and prejudices

surrounding her hearing loss at

school, socially and in her adult

working life.

In 2007 Kellie became the first Miss Deaf UK and the following year was a semi-finalist on the BBC Three programme ‘Britain’s Missing Top Model’. Today, Kellie has achieved her aspirations of becoming a successful model, having been signed as the face of Siemens Hearing Instruments.

“I can hear what people are saying more clearly without having to look at their lips and using Tek and hearing the television is amazing for me.”

“The sound is much clearer and I can hear where sound is coming from. I can also hear the difference in the sound of people's voices. If someone has a deep voice, I can hear the difference. I can also hear myself clearer.”
