NEW FOR 2016!

CAREER & TRAINING PATHS

IA&B has long been a leader in professional development

for independent insurance agents. This year we have developed

three Career & Training Paths. These paths are highlighted

below and are designed to provide more structure for

insurance agencies preparing current employees for new

duties or for anyone wishing to track professional development

within their current job. The paths can also be followed when

integrating new employees. These paths are a starting point

and are often supplemented by agency specific training.

SALES PATH

Producers (the sales force) are the drivers of revenue for

an agency, but they must be licensed and current in their

knowledge of risks and coverages. The Sales Path helps

agencies guide new producers through an agency orientation,

initial licensing, proper procedures and a review of agency

standards and products. It helps all producers to maintain a

more in-depth knowledgeable of coverages, sales skills,

marketing strategy and more.

SERVICE PATH

Customer Service Representatives are on the front line of

claims and other interactions with insureds. They need to

remain up to speed on service skills, agency procedures and

policy specifics. The Service Path helps agencies orient CSRs

with office protocols, licensing requirements, the basics of

various lines of coverage and more.

AGENCY MANAGEMENT PATH

Agency managers must maintain a high-level vision for the

agency, strategic awareness of its markets and varying degrees

of operational knowledge to run the business. The Agency

Management Path seeks to develop a wide range of business

management skills, maintain a broad knowledge of coverages

and develop a keen awareness of compliance and legal issues.

(CISR) DESIGNATION PROGRAM

IABforME.com/CISR | (800) 998-9644 3

Program provides flexibility and focused training options.

Choice and flexibility is what CISR insurance courses are all about. CISR courses are designed to focus on

your type of business. It takes only five courses to earn the CISR designation, but participants have the flexibility of nine course options. This allows CSRs and other front-line staff to focus on what’s important to them and the type of work they handle.

The CISR program builds knowledge of essential coverages and improves cross-selling ability. Nine topics are offered through IA&B classroom seminars in convenient locations across Pa., Md. and Del. Participants learn how to analyze risks and exposures while guiding customers through various coverage scenarios. The education gained is key to advancement within an agency and a more fulfilling insurance career.

CISR Course Options (five required to earn designation)

n Life & Heath Essentials n Insuring Personal Residential Property

n Commercial Casualty I* n Personal Lines Miscellaneous

n Commercial Casualty II* n Agency Operations

n Insuring Commercial Property n Elements of Risk Management

n Insuring Personal Auto Exposures

* Commercial Casualty I is not required before taking Commercial Casualty II.

Earning the Designation

To earn the CISR designation, you must complete five course options and pass the exam for each within three calendar years of passing the first exam. Courses may be taken in any order.

Retaining the Designation

To retain the designation, you must attend one of the following programs annually (by end of birth month) for update credit:

n Any one CISR course (classroom or online) n Entire CIC institute or CRM course

n Dynamics of Service Seminar (fulfills two years of update credit)

n CIC institute for eight consecutive hours* n William T. Hold Seminar

*CE credit would not be available if attending only 8 hours.

CISR ELITE DESIGNATION

The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research created CISR Elite status to signify a commitment to broader insurance knowledge, to present additional CISR update options and to create a higher goal for agency staff in their pursuit of customer service excellence.

Earning the CISR Elite credential

Anyone passing five CISR courses within three years (thus earning the standard CISR designation) AND THEN successfully completing the remaining four seminars within a three-year time period will be awarded CISR Elite status.

If advancing to the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation (see page 1) is not something you’re prepared for or interested in, CISR Elite will take you to a higher level of knowledge and skill and award a credential that symbolizes your ongoing commitment to professional development.

This seminar is an option for CISR designees needing to fulfill their annual designation update requirement.

This seminar takes a deeper dive into commercial insurance, breaking it down by the following coverages:

Workers’ Compensation & Employer Liability

This seminar will explore the important legal concepts that establish the workers’ compensation system and the related employer exposures. It will review the fundamentals of workers compensation, and then review each part of a workers’ comp and employers’ professional liability policy (EPLI). It will discuss the importance of items 3A, 3B, and 3C on the information page and identify potential problems encountered by the insured, insurance company and agent. Commercial Property

Agents will take an in-depth look at methods of writing property coverage. They will learn how an insured’s property is valued under most property insurance contracts. They will be able to explain market value, actual cash value, replacement cost, replacement cost, functional replacement, etc. They will review the Value Reporting Form and discuss the importance of reporting the values accurately and in a timely manner. A comparison of the differences between scheduled versus blanket coverage will also be discussed. Finally, agents will learn about the latest changes to the ISO Commercial Property forms.

Condominium Concepts and Coverage

This seminar is an option for CISR designees needing to fulfill their annual designation update requirement.

What exactly is a condominium? Is it real estate or a lifestyle choice? What exactly is being purchased and what are the responsibilities of ownership? What is a condo association and what does it do? The condo concept has been with us for over 50 years and yet buyers and insurance professionals alike are often unsure of the answers to these questions.

This course will provide some answers and try to take some of the mystery out of dealing with this variation of property ownership and lifestyle choice. Areas of discussion will include condominium documents as well as applicable condo law. The property and liability insurance responsibilities of both the condo association and the individual unit owner will be reviewed. Additionally, insurance to safeguard the association and its members will be discussed. This will include the topics of directors and officers coverage as well as the potential need for bonding, employee dishonesty and workers’ compensation coverages.

Learning Objectives

1. To discuss the concept of shared ownership of real property 2. To review the required elements of condominium documents

3. To explore typical language and provisions of several condominium deeds of trust 4. To learn the distinction of common elements, limited common elements and an individual

condominium unit and explore the responsibility of insuring each

5. To understand the provisions of the Uniform Condominium Act and how states have accepted or modified these provisions

6. To comprehend the unique features of the policies of insurance covering commercial and personal condominium projects

7. To determine the rights and options of the association, the individual unit owners and lenders at the time of a claim

8. To discuss additional and advisable insurance needs for a condominium

Mistakes That Lead to E&O

Learn how to head-off mistakes that often result in E&O cliams. There are numerous steps in securing insurance for clients, and many are taken over the phone, in person, by e-mail and/or fax. Each transaction carries the potential for error, even when guided by a procedures manual.

We will highlight common mistakes involved in E&O claims by describing the milestones in the “life” of an account. From the proposal and application process to policy issuance and certificates of insurance, to claims processing, and lastly, to renewal or cancellation.

You will also learn the importance of documentation and standard practices throughout the entire transaction. This seminar is for procedures and CSRs, both of whom play a vital role in preventing E&O claims.

Contracts & Leases—Understanding the Insurance Requirements

Contracts and leases are entered into by two or more parties creating an obligation to meet the provisions outlined in the agreement. These contracts and leases are also used to transfer the obligation to pay for the financial consequences of certain losses from one party (indemnitee) to another (indemnitor). These contractual transfers obligate the indemnitor to provide the funds for those losses that fall within the scope of the agreement. For the transfer to be successful, the indemnitor must have the ability to pay. The contract or lease creates numerous questions that must be resolved. Are the liabilities assumed under an indemnification or hold-harmless agreement covered by the indemnitor’s liability policies? Does adding additional insureds expose the indemnitor’s policies to unintended liabilities? Who is responsible for any damage to leased property? What are the insurance requirements of the contract or lease, and can they be satisfied? This course will review those questions and discuss the solutions.

Directors & Officers and Professional Liability—

the Buck Stops Where?

Directors and Officers (D&O) Liability insurance provides financial protection for the leadership of a company in the event they are sued for a breach of their duties to the company, the stockholders, the public, their customers, their competitors and/or the government. D&O Liability policies are written to cover the individual directors and officers and may or may not cover the business entity. The terms, conditions, deductibles and exclusions will vary among different insurers.

Professionals are expected to have extensive technical knowledge and training in their particular field. They are also expected to perform the services for which they were hired in a competent manner. If they fail, they can be held responsible for any resultant injuries or damages. Professional Liability policies are needed to cover their acts, errors or omissions.

This course will review the duties of directors, officers and professionals, plus the provisions of most D&O Liability and Professional Liability policies.

Understanding Flood Insurance

There continues to be a steady flow of changes to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). To keep this stream safely within the banks of your knowledge, IA&B is once again offering an NFIP update from flood expert, Rita Hollada, CIC, CPCU, CPIA. This course will get you caught up so you can reach out to clients and prospects with the most recent and accurate information.

Changes that will be discussed include surcharges, premium jumps and fee increases and the newest high-deductible options. ALL flood insurance policyholders have been impacted in some way. The reforms stem from the remnants of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 and the follow-up law it triggered, the Homeowners Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014.

Even if you do not sell flood insurance, it is important to know what affect recent changes have on your personal lines clients.

The Who, What, When, Where and Why of Workers’ Comp

Workers compensation laws exist in every state, and there are numerous Federal laws which address injuries to employees engaged in certain occupations. These laws, while similar in many of their provisions, are different as to who is covered by the law, where they are covered and the benefits paid. In many states, workers comp is the “sole remedy” for work-related injuries or occupational diseases. However, in a few jurisdictions, an injured employee may be permitted to sue the employer. In addition, third parties (e.g., family members) may sue for loss of services or consequential bodily injury. This course will discuss in detail all aspects of workers comp laws and coverage, including the classification system and the experience Rating Plan.

On-Demand Training Options

NEW for 2016—Essentials of Homeowners’

A new On-Demand program designed for Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) will expand the continuously growing list of course offerings highlighted below. “Homeowners Insurance—an Intro for CSRs” will enable front-line staff to work at their own pace (within the 30-day course window) to learn essential information about Certificates of Insurance, Business Auto, Home-Based Business, Commercial Property and Recreational Vehicles. When launched, this program will be found at IABforME.com/SpecialTopics.

Certificates of Insurance

Certificates have become a major source of litigation between certificate holders, insureds, insurers and insurance agents. This course reviews the most frequently disputed and litigated certificate of insurance issues and offers risk management suggestions that should reduce some of these conflicts. This On-Demand program is presented by Jerry Milton, CIC.

Insuring e-Commerce

E-commerce activities have created new exposures that are not adequately covered by traditional property and liability policies. Many insurers have developed policies to address acts of a hacker, theft of money or intellectual property, loss of income, extortion and third-party liability. This course reviews these exposures and the policies designed to provide coverage. This On-Demand program is presented by Jerry Milton, CIC.

Pollution Exposures and Coverages

Businesses have become subject to increased environmental liability and financial loss exposures. These include site assessment, testing, upgrading facilities, cleanup, third-party damages or injuries, and fines or penalties. A separate Pollution Liability policy is often needed to address these and this course discusses the provisions of such policies. This On-Demand program is presented by Jerry Milton, CIC.

Compliance Pitfalls and Ethical Responsibilities*

IA&B advocacy experts Jason Ernest, Esq. and Claire Pantaloni, CIC, CISR highlight the most violated insurance laws and regulations and show agents how to remain compliant. (Pa.- and Md.-specific editions available.) * Approved for loss-control credit for Utica policyholders

Understanding the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and the

Biggert Waters Act

Flood insurance expert Rita Hollada, CIC, CPCU, CPIA leads this three-hour program which awards the CE credit agents need to sell NFIP policies. This program is presented by Rita Hollada, CIC, CPCU, CPIA.

ISO 2013 Commercial Property Changes

Changes discussed include modified coverage forms and causes of loss forms; changes to various

endorsements; introduction of new endorsements; and the withdrawal of others. The changes range in scope from minor editorial changes clarifying language based on recent court decisions to major expansion or contraction of coverages.

ISO 2013 CGL Changes

Both this and the course above were authored by coverages expert Jerry Milton, CIC, and are presented by national faculty member, Dan Lawyer, CIC, CPCU. This courses is designed to guide you through the commercial general liability changes, explain the rationale behind them and help you better understand their impact on coverage.
