Photography and Fine Arts
TARGET FOR THE TENURE ● Introducing newer PFA sub genres and techniques by conducting a host of workshops catering to both the genres ● Providing Learning opportunities to both the beginners and people well acquainted; encouraging people interested in the genres to come together and learn from one another ● Launch of Institute Photography and Fine Arts Guidebook ● Development of a fully functional and well equipped Photography and Fine Arts Studio ● Theme Finalisation for Kaladarshan’16, setting up installations, online campaign, institute wide collection of entries and set up of the Final exhibition INFRASTRUCTURAL IMPROVEMENTS Photography and Fine Arts Studio ● The permissions for the renovation of the Recording room in SAC to the Photography and Fine Arts Studio were renewed and renovation commenced in April. Thereafter, a fresh set of permissions for modification in civil works and installation of a 10X9 Ft cabinet, lan ports and repair of the AC were completed by August end through timely followups with the administrative offices involved. ● Procurement of new infrastructure and repairs of existing equipment was undertaken. Purchase of Studio Lights, 2 cameras, tripods and other camera accessories, easels, drawing boards etc was made during the semester and a Usage Policy drafted in coordination with the SAC Incharge to ensure sustainable usage and the facility was made accessible to all through the cult infrastructure portal. A Studio Photography workshop was organised to acquaint students with the necessary skills. LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES NSO Fine Arts ● Based on the feedback taken from its pilot run, the curriculum was reviewed, and appointment of the instructor for this academic year was done in consultation with the authorities. Trials were organised for the 40 registered students, following which a batch of 20 students was selected. Arrangement for provision of art supplies was made, a proposal for a better suited venue was taken up with the NSO Coordinator and full
For the underprivileged ● An initiative to mentor the kids of the construction workers employed at various sites on campus was taken up and classes were organised at the Aman Day Care to train the students in painting. Their artworks were later showcased during Kaladarshan in a dedicated section ● Muskaan Weekly art classes were organised in coordination with NSS for a batch of 25 students Professional Courses ● Following classes by industry professionals, each with a batch strength of over 25 students were held: ● Moving from Basics to Advanced Fine Arts course was conducted as a part of Summer School of Cult by Mahendra Bhapkar, a gold medallist in BFA and MFA from JJ School of Arts. ● Photography Classes were organised for SSOC by Umesh Daundkar, a wellrenowned photographer. ● ‘Sketching and Clay Modelling’ Classes were introduced for the first time in the institute which laid emphasis on learning visualisation using both 2 D drawings and working in 3 Dimensions with clay. ● Insem Photography classes with handson sessions, photowalks and studio based sessions were held. GENERAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ● The GC structure was streamlined by making requisite adjustments in the division of points amongst the 4 subgenres and spreading out the GCs evenly across the 2 semesters. Freshmen participation was introduced in the GCs. Preparatory workshops were conducted for each GC and professional judges invited. The changes in format, improved publicity, freshmen inclusion resulted in a quantum increase in the participation 2D Fine Arts GC(124 entries), Photography GC(109 entries), 3D FA GC(38 teams). The top GC entries were later showcased during Kaladarshan.
FLAGSHIP EVENTS ● Vision The roadside exhibition in collaboration with the Design Team was held, showcasing 300+ photos, portfolios. ‘Capturing a Story’ & ‘Fashion Photography’ Workshops, with 50+ participants ● Kaladarshan The exhibition was publicised by series of themed installations, and an online campaign ‘Espresso Yourself’ covering 400 students. Road Painting was conducted with enthusiastic involvement from campus residents. The exhibition witnessed an overwhelming participation, showcasing artworks and photographs of 200+ campus residents with a footfall of over 5000 ONLINE VENTURES & INFORMATION DISSEMINATION ● To improve online participation, competitions on themes such as Sweet escape, Mumbai Unexplored, Children’s day, Best shot of 16, Republic Day were held from time to time on the Facebook groups ● LYP: World Photography day Photography Contest was launched in association with Rent set go, receiving over 60 entries. The winners were given a free rental of high end cameras for a weekend ● ‘Bring me to life’ and ‘Capture enrapture’ competitions were organised as part of Cult Online and PFA Bucketlists were released during the vacations, encouraging enthusiasts to explore the genres ● Online themed competitions, reviews, polls, discussions together resulted in the membership reaching an unprecedented 4,400 and 3,300 for the Pixels and Rang Facebook groups respectively ● Updates regarding ongoing prestigious photography competitions were provided regularly ● Full support was extended to IIT B contingent which secured the PFA trophy at Mood Indigo’15 ● Institute Photography & Fine Arts Guidebook, providing information regarding procuring supplies, learning opportunities, events in Mumbai, online media, tutorials, club activities etc was launched ● Exhaustive list of vendors(for both purchase and rental) was released to facilitate easy procurement GENRE EXPLORATION: EVENTS CONDUCTED
participants. ● Sessions and Photowalks were conducted which were very well received by the participants. Rang and Pixels Club Introductory Sessions, Welcome back session, Rukhsat Farewell session, Club Birthday Sessions, frequent Photowalks, Mobile Photography walks, Lakeside live painting sessions, Lakeside session with the theme Wonders of the world, the paintings later being showcased during ESummit Global melange, Diwali and Makar Sakranti session were organised ● Basic Workshops To provide learning opportunities to the beginners, following workshops were conducted DSLR Handling, Light Graffiti, Post processing in Light Room, ABC Doodle, ABC Paint, Tile Painting, Paper Crafts, Doodling and Halloween themed Origami Workshop
● Advanced Workshops Relatively advanced workshops were conducted on High Dynamic Range Photography, Fashion Photography, Visual Story Telling, Studio Photography, Typography and Watercolour Painting. Character Design workshop by Shyam Wanare with a turnout of 70+ students was introduced during Pro Week, an additional feedback session was conducted for the participants ● Freshiezza and PG Cult As a part of Freshiezza, following competitions were organised Cup Painting, Face Painting, Mobile Photography, Wall Painting saw enthusiastic involvement of the freshmen. Support was extended to the PG Nominee in conducting following events during PG Cult Rangoli, PosterMaking, Typography, Tile painting, Online and Onspot Photography competitions IN SYNC WITH MANIFESTO: Renovation of Photography and Fine Arts Studio has been completed. Paintings of underprivileged children from aman day care centre were showcased at kaladarshan in a dedicated section. A PFA Guidebook was completed and distributed during the club Introductory sessions. Traditional artform of Warli was revived. Contacting to conduct a host of workshops is being done. NSO Fine Arts successfully undergoing it’s second run with a batch of students selected after trials from a batch of 40 who had initially registered. Meetings with hostel PFA Secies were organised to help them improve the PFA scenes in their hostels, and GC preparatory workshops were organised. A great response was shown in both the GCs with a large number of entries turning in. A range of workshops and sessions were organised in both the genres, visit to Jehangir Art Gallery and a Phototrip to Bandra Fort and Kalaghoda were conducted. Online competitions were conducted in addition to keeping the enthusiasts updated about competitions being organised off campus. In Collaboration with Design Club, Vision was successfully conducted comprising a roadside exhibition.In an effort to highlight individual stories, there was an option to showcase portfolios made available during the exhibition. Kaladarshan was also successfully conducted witnessing a very high footfall.
