Dr. Mariluz Maté is an Associate Professor of the Accounting and Finance Department at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). Her research is directed to understand the behaviour and performance of companies in a regional space. She also addresses topics on innovation at firms. She has published in journals as The Journal of Geographical
Systems and The International Research Journal of Finance
and Economics.
Along the subject of Financial Analysis of the Firmwe shall review the process by which the accounting information provided by the firms is elaborated and then we will analyse that information. The financial analysis will be based on techniques and will always be applied to real firms. This approach will allow students to get a deep knowledge about the characteristics of Spanish firms and International firms.
Dr. Antonia Madrid-Guijarro is an Associate Professor of the Accounting and Finance Department of the Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). She has been a visiting professor at Iowa University with Professor Van Auken. Professor Madrid-Guijarro research has been published in
journals such as Journal of Business Management,
Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, and Annals of
Regional Science. She is a member of the Entrepreneurship
and High Tech Firm Office at the UPCT.

Department of Accounting and Finance at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). He has been visiting professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Holanda). His main research interests are SMEs financing, capital structure, and banking relationships. He has published papers in renamed journals such as Journal of Small Business
Management, Journal of Small Business Economics and
International Small Business Journal.
In the subject of Finance we learn how to understand and apply the theory and practice of corporate finance. Specially, we will focus on the financial decisions applied to financial planning, short-term management, and capital budgeting. Managers learn from experience how to cope with routine problems. But the best managers are also able to respond to change. To do this you need more than time-honored rules of thumb; you must understand why companies and financial markets behave the way they do.
Dr. Eva Tomaseti is lecturer of strategic marketing and consumer behavior at the Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). She had a Master in Retailing and Marketing, and obtained the European PhD by the University of Murcia (Spain). She was a PhD Student at Bradford University, United Kingdom. Her research lines encompass consumer behaviour in the area of product innovation evaluation, social networks, and family decision making. She has published in practitioner books in the area of consumer
behaviour, and journals such as Advances in Consumer
Research. A regular attendant of and reviewer for
international marketing and consumer conferences,
including ACR North American Conference and European
Marketing Academy Conference, she also has been an ad hoc
reviewer for the Journal of Business Research.
In the subject of Consumer Behaviour we will focus on the consumer decision-making process, the individual aspects of consumer behavior, such as consumer motivation, consumer perception, consumer learning, personality and consumer attitude formation, and the external influences on consumer behavior, that is, the consumers in their social and cultural settings, such as culture’s influence on consumer behaviour, the family and its social standing and other reference groups.

Ethics. She is member of the Board of the Spanish
Professorship of Accounting Association (ASEPUC), and

In the subject of Managerial Accounting we will see how cost accounting helps managers make better decisions. The basic objective of the subject is to understand the procedures used by companies to calculate the cost of the products and services they offer in order to make the right decisions. By focusing on basic concepts, analyses, uses and procedures, we study management accounting as a tool for business strategy and implementation.
Dr. Fernando A. López is an Associate Professor of Statistics and Econometrics at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). He has large experience teaching statistics for undergraduate and graduate levels, using the most popular mathematical and statistical software (R, SPSS, MatLab). His main research interest is in Spatial Econometrics, Economic Geography and Regional Science. He has got many publications in international journals and quite a lot experience in Data Analysis. Some of his publications appear in journals like Spatial Economic Analysis, Papers in Regional
Science, Regional Science and Urban Economics,
Geographical Analysis and Journal of Geographical Systems. He has total Impact points of 27.9 in JCR journals.
In the subject of Statistical Data Analysis the student will learn how to analyze a data base with statistics software like SPSS. The aim of the course will be, first, to show the student how to extract all the useful information that contains the data base to be analyzed from a descriptive point of view. Secondly an introduction to economic statistical modelling and inference will be given.
Dr. Manuel Ruiz is an Associate Professor of Statistics and Advanced Statistics at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). His main research interests are symbolic analysis, dynamical systems and nonparametric statistics. He has got many publications in international journals and quite a lot experience in Data Analysis and statistical tests design. Some of his publications appear in journals like Journal of Econometrics, Regional Science and Urban Economics,
Geographical Analysis, and Journal of Economic Behavior
and Organization.

Dr. Irene Escuín is an Associate Professor of the Law Department at the Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). Her areas of research include the field of transport law, company law, and consumer law. She has extensively
published in Spanish and European journals such as Revista
de Derecho Bancario y Bursatil, Revista de Derecho
Mercantil, and The European Finance and Company Law.
The subject of Spanish and European Commercial Law will
analyze those legal issues on which a high level of international harmonization has been achieved. In this sense, the subject will be focused on studying the different European company forms and the main legal instruments used in order to develop commercial activities within an international context.
Dr. María Eugenia Sánchez Vidal is an Associate Professor of the Business Administration Department at the Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). Her areas of research include the field of international human resource management and work life balance. She has published in
international journals such as International Human Resource
Management, Personnel Review, Management Decision, and
Journal of Business Research.
In this subject, we will focus in Human Resource
Management. Today, personnel management is considered
a key issue in helping companies to increase their results thus developing competitive advantages. In the subject we will see the main human resource practices such as job analysis, the hiring process (recruitment, selection and placement), training and development of careers, performance appraisal, compensation, the expatriation management, work life balance and other key aspects related to personnel management.
Dr. Andrés Artal-Tur is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain), where he is the Vice-Dean of Master and Doctoral Studies. His main research interest is in International Economics, as well as in Tourism Economics. Publications in the area of International Economics include the study of factors driving international economic and social flows (trade, FDI, migration). Some journals where he has published his research results include Economics Letters, International Regional Science Review, Environment and
Planning B, and International Review of Economics &
Finance.
In this subject, we will focus on the topic of Doing Business
in a Global Economy. Starting with a look at the state of the
geography of business at the beginning of the 21st century, we will move to identify the emerging industries at the worldwide level. Then we will review the current state of flows of goods, services and capital (international trade and FDI) globally. Finally, we will present some case studies on the issue, as an exercise of motivating potential Master Thesis for students.
Dr. José María Ramos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). His main research areas are Labour Economics and Health Economics. He has published in
Journals such as The Journal of Macroeconomics, Journal of
Economic Surveys, and Gaceta Sanitaria. He has a wide
teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Dr. Juan Gabriel Cegarra is an Associate Professor at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain) and formerly a visiting professor at the Manchester Business School and at the Lancaster University Management School in the UK. Professor Cegarra’ research has been published to the following journals: Journal of Small Business Management,
Journal of Business Venturing and British Journal of
Management, among others. He was awarded the Emerald
LiteratiNetwork Highly Commented Award (2011) and the Emerald/EMRBI Business Research Award for Emerging Researcher (2013). He is also Associate Editor in The Service
Industries Journal and the Journal of Knowledge
Management.
Knowledge Management (KM) is the process of capturing,
developing, sharing, and effectively using organisational knowledge. KM problem solving, dynamic learning, collaboration, strategic planning and decision making, and also protects intellectual assets from decay. Through the subject of Knowledge Management, students will acquire greater planning abilities in the fields of business administration, information systems and management. The content of the subject is organized into five major areas: 1) From the industrial society to the knowledge society; 2) Balance Scorecard; 3) Knowledge management and ICT; 4) Organizational learning and organizational unlearning; and 5), Knowledge and business strategic.
Dr. Antonio Duréndez is Associate Professor (Accounting and Finance) at the Faculty of Business Studies, Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). PhD in Economics and Business (University of Murcia). Master (MSc) in Banking and Finance and Master (MSc) in Auditing at the ENAE Business School (Spain). BA (Hons) Business in Europe at the Manchester Metropolitan University (UK). Graduate in Business Administration at the University of Murcia (Spain). Registered Auditor. At present, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and Deputy Head of the Mare Nostrum Family Business Research Centre. Fields of research: Financial Management, Auditing, Management of SMEs, Family Business and Entrepreneurship. He has published in refereed international journals such as, Managerial Auditing Journal, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour &
Research, Economics and Finance Review, Innovar, and
Spanish Journal of Finance and Accounting.
In the subject of Accounting Information Systems, we will build on teaching innovative methodologies employing management tools in class. They will include the resource to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, developing and adapting this software for the students´ requirements. Real life situations will be provided by the teacher in order to consolidate the contents of the subject.
Dr. Javier Sánchez Vidal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). He has been visiting professor at the Universities of Bologna (Italy) and Trinity College’s School of Business (Dublin). He has published papers in renamed journals such as Journal of Banking and
Finance, and Journal of Business, Economics and
Management. He has being part of the Organizing
Committees of several international conferences, and recently published a book with professors Marco Bigelli, Sheila Chapman and Campbell Harvey.
The subject of Stock Markets Operations and Firms´ value,
aims to provide the student with a thorough knowledge of the techniques applied in the Fundamental analysis to value a company: the Discounted Cash Flow method and Ratio Analysis. We will also take a look at the financial system, the financial markets: stock markets and debt markets, a theoretical and applied understanding of the Dow Global Index and other international indicative indices. Finally, we will also study how to operate in the stock market and analyze special operations and financial assets: dividends, takeovers, futures options, etc.
Dr. Antonio García-Sánchez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). MSc in Economics, London School of Economics (LSE-UK) . His main research interests are in the field of Tourism Economics, Labour Economics, and Macroeconomics. He has large experience teaching economics and tourism economics for postgraduate degree in Spanish and foreign universities. He has published
contributions in Tourism Economics, Annals of Tourism
Research, Investigaciones Economicas, etc. He is vice
president of the Spanish Research Tourism Association (AECIT).
Tourism Economics is one of the most relevant topics to be analyzed because of the global growth that tourism activities have been reaching nowadays. Through the subject of Tourism Economics students will acquire greater knowledge about this economic activity, tourism markets, destinations and tourism products. The content of the subject is organized into five major areas: 1 Tourism definitions and delimitations 2. Tourism economic activity in the World and European economies. 3. Outgoing and incoming tourism flows 4. Destinations features and management 5. Leisure and Business tourism products.
Dr. Miguel A. Tobarra is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). His main research interest is in
environmental, natural resources and agricultural
economics. His research has been published in relevant national and international journals of the field.
Environmental Economics will be a subject reviewing how
environmental implications are incorporated into economic analysis. It will include the study of the environmental impact, both positive and negative, of projects and actions of private and public agents. Also will focus on deriving related recommendations in terms of policies in this field of study. Along the subject, the students will learn how to apply economics´ tools to address environmental problems and techniques of environmental and resource valuation and accounting. A problem-solving approach to these issues will be used, as well as case-study examples.
Dr. Ángel López Nicolás obtained a Ph.D. in Economics at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy) and is currently Full Professor in the Department of Economics at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). Prior to his current position, he was Associate Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. His teaching and research are centered in Health Care Economics and Public Policy Analysis. He has published in the main international field journals and has ample experience with both undergraduate and graduate teaching.
In this subject of Economics of Health Services we will focus on:

Dr. Inocencia Martínez-León is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Business Administration at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). Her main research interest is in organisational learning and corporate reputation. Her teaching is centered in business organisation and intangible assets management, in both undergraduate and master degree. She has published in relevant journals such as Service Business, International Journal of Manpower,
and Business Research Quarterly. Prior to her current
position, she was Management Accountant at G’s España Group, belonging to G’s Group Ltd (UK).
In the subject of Intangible Assets Management we will help the students to obtain a general vision about the resource-based view and how to manage intangible assets such as organisational culture, innovation and corporate reputation. The importance of stakeholders in these assets is also reviewed. The course includes an equal emphasis on theoretical framework and case study examples. Therefore, students will advance their knowledge, skills and experience to deal with the management and development of intangible assets that create value and have a positive effect on organisational outcomes and economic results in the business.
This professor also coordinates the subject of Strategic
Management.
Dr. Isabel Olmedo Cifuentes is a Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain), where she obtained her PhD in Economics and Business Administration with European mention. She has completed a predoctoral and postdoctoral stay at Manchester Business School (UK). Her research focuses on corporate reputation and the influence of the different stakeholders on its configuration and evaluation. She has published in relevant international journals such as Service
Business and Business Research Quarterly.

Dr. Angel R. Martínez-Lorente got his PhD for Murcia University in 1996 and is professor at Technical University of Cartagena. In this university, he has been the Head of the Business Administration Department during 8 years and he is now Vice-Chancellor. He teaches in operations management and quality management. He has been visitant researcher at University of Manchester, working with professor Barrie G. Dale. His papers have been published in
journals as Journal of Operations Management,
International Journal of Production Research, International
Journal of Operations and Production Management and
International Journal of Production Economics. He is
member of the Editorial Advisory Board of International
Journal of Quality and Reliability Management. His H index
is 21.
In the subject of Strategic Management we offer a general vision about the wide-ranging management issues to the students, including aspects of business organization, operations and strategic management, and general strategic management. The course includes an equal emphasis on theoretical framework and case study examples. Therefore, students will advance their knowledge, skills and experience to provide an understanding of business organization: organizational design and forms; operations management to become more efficient and effective; analysis of industry and competitive conditions, along with the situational study of the company, etc. The subject concludes with defendable
recommendations for specific strategies and the
development of objectives for strategic goal success.

created by the government of Spain to promote the learning of Spanish language. It has presence in 86 cities of 43 countries all over the world.
In the subject of Spanish as a Foreign Language the student will follow an intensive course introducing him/her to the use of the Spanish language.
Dr. Domingo García received his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Murcia (Spain). He is Professor and Director in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT). Specialist in studies on Family and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), he is the Head of Entrepreneurship Office in UPCT, Director of the Economic Observatory of SME in the Region of Murcia, and Co-Director of the Spanish Foundation for Strategic Development of SME (FAEDPYME).
In the Module of Seminars and Conferences the student will get in touch with professionals of the business world. They will be sharing with us their knowledge and expertise on managerial techniques applied in international companies.
Dr. Juan Jesús Bernal is Full Professor in the Department of Quantitative Methods & Computing (QMC) at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). His main research interest is in computing and its applications to firms´ management methods. He has been Director of the Faculty of Business, and Director of the QMC Department for many years. He also has an extensive number of impact publications, either research articles or edited books.
In the Module of Seminars and Conferences the student will get in touch with professionals of the business world. They will be sharing with us their knowledge and expertise on managerial techniques applied in international companies.
Dr. Antonio-Juan Briones-Peñalver is an Assistant Professor of Management at Technical University of Cartagena (Spain) and researcher for the Portugal International Centre (CIEO), mention of European Doctorate (Doctorate with European accreditation). His research interest is focused on the study of entrepreneurs, start-up business projects, firms´ cooperation & strategic alliances, and, in general, business collaboration relationships along the European Union. In the last years he has been leading several Projects of International Cooperation for Development issues between the European Union and Central America, sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The professor Antonio Juan Briones will coordinate and supervise the Internship placement process for students. He is currently the Director of the Master in Business Administration (MBA) at Technical University of Cartagena, as well as Deputy Director at the “Young Entrepreneurs Chair". Before joining the University, he occupied positions as Economist and Executive Director in several Agribusiness companies.
