For the patterns in this book, you’ll need to add a

1/_{4-inch (6 mm) seam allowance. The quickest way} to do this is to simply eyeball it. Trace around the pattern piece on the fabric, or iron it on if the pat-tern has been copied onto freezer paper, then cut the fabric 1/_{4 inch (6 mm) away from the edge of} the pattern piece measuring it by eye. With a little practice, cutting a 1/_{4inch (6 mm) away becomes} easy. If you aren’t comfortable eyeballing it, use a sliding gauge (page 12) set at 1/_{4 inch (6 mm). Line} it up with the edge of the pattern piece and use a disappearing fabric marker or chalk to make a dot 1/_{4 inch (6 mm) away. Move the gauge over} 1/_{2 inch} (1.3 cm), and make another dot. Continue all the way around the pattern piece, making dots 1/_{4 inch} (6 mm) away from the edge of the pattern piece every 1/_{2 inch (1.3 cm). Connect the dots to create a} 1/_{4-inch (6 mm) seam allowance, then cut the fabric} along this line.

All templates on the following pages, except the Dinosaur, are set to print to their actual size when printed at “actual size,” or “size to 100%.” Do not set the document, or your printer, to print “to fit.” For the Dinosaur, print at 110% on 11 x 17-inch paper or print at 100% and enlarge at your local copy shop.
