understand what is happening in one’s life, and often when one is angry at God. There are many examples of lamentations in the Old Testament, including many of the Psalms. Usually, after pouring out their heart to God and expressing their rage, the person praying is able to once again see the goodness and beauty of life. This has been my experience. While celebrating the sacrament of Reconciliation, sometimes the penitent confesses “being angry with God” as though “being angry with God” and expressing that anger is a sin. I often get angry with God myself. As we see in Sunday’s reading from the Book of Job, rather than being a sin, being angry with God can actually be an expression of deep faith.

In a real sense,
expressing anger to God is an act of faith. We wouldn’t be angry with God if we did not believe in God, or if we did not have a relationship with God. We wouldn’t be angry with God if we didn’t trust that God is a loving God who desires what is best for us. After expressing our frustration, we often come to trust that things will somehow work out for us…just as they did
For the health and safety of all gathered, St. Isidore will be offering the distribution of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021, with the following modifications:
All those attending service or Mass are required to wear a face covering at all times while in the building. As instructed from Rome, rather than praying the formula over each person, the priest will bless the ashes and then address all present with one of the formulas found in the Roman Missal.
The priest will then cleanse his hands, put on a face mask and distribute ashes, using one clean cotton ball per person (without saying anything). Other ministers will also distribute ashes in the same way, in silence.
For the Reception of Ashes, the assembled will be ushered from their pews, maintaining a distance of six-feet from the next person, as indicated by the marks on the floor.
Registration for a Mass or Service of Ashes is required. Please do so by going to our website:

Esse & Grace SalamieIt is important to respect the communal aspect of Lent. Community prayer and action are central to our Lenten experience. For instance, the signing of our foreheads with ashes on Ash Wednesday is a communal experience, where we enter into the season as a penitential community. Last year, we wanted to find a way to encourage as many people as possible to come together as a community and journey together during Lent (little knowing at the time that we would all be quarantined at home). So, inspired
by Matthew Kelly and the team at Dynamic Catholic with their Best Lent Ever daily video series, we created a Lenten video series of our own led by the St. Isidore staff and delivered straight to you each day. We are excited to bring the Lenten Video Project (LVP) back again this year with a new theme for 2021. We are coming off of a 12-month period where millions of people have been affected and hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives to a global pandemic. There is political unrest, racial injustice,

catastrophic natural disasters, a record loss of jobs, closures of businesses, restaurants, and churches, and so much more. We have all probably prayed for an end, and sometimes it can feel like our prayers aren’t being heard. Despite all of this, guess what?
Prayer still works! Our LVP this year reflects on the many different ways to pray and how we can all unite together in a variety of prayers. Each person on our staff will reflect on the prayer or way to pray that has had an impact on their lives.
WHAT IS IT?
It’s an inspiring series of videos created by the St. Isidore Church staff sent straight to your email. These short videos will reflect on different prayers, ways to pray, and the impact they have had on our lives.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
There are a couple of ways to sign up. First, just head to our website and sign up there. Or, if you would prefer, you can call the parish office where the staff can assist you with your signup. Your email address will not be used for anything besides the Lenten Video Project without your permission.
HOW MANY VIDEOS?
We are hoping to produce around 20 videos that will be sent out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, beginning Monday, February 22.
WHAT ARE THE VIDEOS ABOUT?
Our theme for 2021 is about prayer. From familiar prayers like the Our Father and Hail Mary, to alternative ways to pray such as: music, meditation, and just casually talking with God.
WHO IS ON THE VIDEOS?
The videos are reflections shared by the St. Isidore staff. Almost our entire team will be sharing reflections!

HOW LONG ARE THE VIDEOS?
We know your time is valuable, so each video will only be between 2-5 minutes in length.
IF I SIGNED UP LAST YEAR, DO I NEED
TO SIGN UP AGAIN?
It is probably best to double-check that you are signed-up by going to the website and entering your info. If you are already signed-up, the form will let you know.
WHAT IF I MISS A VIDEO?
If you sign up after the series has started or you want to go back and watch previous videos, you will be able to do that on our Lenten Video Project web page or on our YouTube channel.
ARE THE VIDEOS JUST MEANT FOR THE
PEOPLE OF ST. ISIDORE?
No! The topics in the Lenten Video Project are things that we all deal with. This is a great chance to share your faith with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and random strangers you meet at the Coney Grille. Share away! We’ll be providing ways to share on Facebook and Instagram, and you can even invite a friend through the LVP website.

Always be impartial and just in your deeds. Put yourself into your neighbor’s place, and him in yours, then you will judge fairly… Frequently, therefore, examine your heart, whether it is so disposed towards your neighbor, as you would have his disposed towards you, were you to change places; for this is the true test.
- St. Thomas Aquinas
God, may the world You created be better today because I am in it. Bless anyone who is suffering, hungry, sick, lonely, angry or afraid. Help me to recognize those people when I meet them today and to show them your light and love. Amen.
Prayer blankets and shawls are available. Call the office during normal business hours.
Our blankets and shawls are carefully created by a great group of women parishioners who hope you will participate in their mission of reaching out to people who need comfort for any reason. How can you participate in this mission? It’s easily done. Simply bring one of our blankets or shawls to someone you know.
Do you have a relative or friend dealing with a health issue or any crisis, problem or disruption in their life? How about a St. Valentine gift for that person? Please call the office (586-286-1700) and get a free blessed prayer blanket or shawl for that someone you know who needs comfort.
Thank you from "The Comfort Crafters"
It is one of the most beautiful compensations in life, that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our caring affirms a person’s worth. This affirmation is what our Lord wants each of us to do. He wants us to do kind actions without anything in return. We can point others to God because we have shown His love for them in a very real way. When we give of ourselves, God pours His love, peace and forgiveness into our hearts and into our lives.

THE CELEBRATION OF MASS
The Corona Virus has caused a fast on so many levels. Our restaurants are limited for indoor dinning. We have not been able to share Christmas dinners and other joyful family meals for birthdays or other special occasions that we all look forward to each year. As Catholics, the most important meal we share is in the celebration of Mass. The Holy Eucharist is the most important of the seven sacraments because, in this and in no other sacrament, we receive the very body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. Innumerable, precious graces come to us through the reception of Holy Communion.
Holy Communion is an intimate encounter with Christ, in which we
sacramentally receive Christ into our bodies. “The Eucharist builds the Church,” as Pope John Paul II said (Redemptor Hominis 20). It deepens unity with the Church, more fully assimilating us into Christ (1 Cor. 12:13; CCC 1396).
So many Catholics are fasting from Eucharist at this time due to concerns for health and safety. The good news is that Christ's presence in the Eucharist cannot be changed or diminished by anything. We must continue to pray in hope that this crisis fast will soon end and that all who are able will soon return to our live celebrations of Eucharist for the innumerable graces flowing from the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

OUR LENTEN JOURNEY
AND THE RCIA
John Kovacik
RCIA COORDINATOR RCIA@STISIDORE.CHURCH
Lent and its’ accompanying journey are rapidly approaching for the Catholic community. The community as a whole is renewed as we take time to focus on repentance and the remembrance of our Baptismal vows.
Lent also coincides with the period of purification and enlightenment for the RCIA catechumens and candidates. The Catechumens prepare for the reception of Baptism and the Candidates reflect on their Baptism as they prepare for additional Sacraments. This is a time of intense interior reflection for the group and is intended to purify their minds and hearts as they prepare for the celebration of Sacraments at the Easter Vigil.
During the Lenten season, the Catechumens (those awaiting baptism) and the Candidates (already baptized) will first be “sent” to the Cathedral in Detroit to celebrate the Rite of Election. The Catechumens specifically will be welcomed to the Church and become the “Elect.”
Throughout the Lenten season, the now “Elect” will celebrate the Scrutinies and be presented with “gifts” from the Church. The Scrutinies, celebrated at 11:30 Mass on Sundays, are rites for self-searching and repentance. As the actual Rite outlines, “the Scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective or sinful in the hearts of the Elect.” There are three Scrutinies in total and during their respective Masses we will hear the Gospels that tell of the Woman at the Well, The Man Born Blind and The Raising of Lazarus.
As mentioned, the Elect will also receive “gifts” from the Church. They will be presented with the Creed and the Our Father prayer at separate Masses on Saturday mornings. Please take a few moments to pray for this amazing group of Catechumens and Candidates as they begin their faith journeys. Also, look for their photos and information in the upcoming weeks. Finally, if you see one of them at 11:30 Mass, take a moment to welcome them personally to our community.

MEETINGS
Sunday, February 7 / No Mtg Sunday, February 14 / 6:30pm Sunday, February 21 / 6:30pm Sunday, February 28 / 6:30pm
Let’s make time to speak personally to Jesus. Join fellow church members each Wednesday from the comfort of your home, workplace, etc., in spending 10 minutes in prayer anytime day or evening. Enlist your family, a friend, or perhaps you prefer a quite place to meditate. Prayers can be formal or not, including singing or reading scripture. You could offer your work, a kind act, or make a sacrifice as your prayer. We are called to be a holy people (set aside for sacred use). As we focus our mind and heart on Jesus, He transforms us, re-creating us into the ones He designed us to be.
This week’s Intention: Unity
Suggested prayer: The Unity Prayer
My adorable Jesus. May our feet journey together, May our hands gather in unity, May our hearts beat in unison, May our souls be in harmony, May our thoughts be as one, May our ears listen to the silence together, May our glances deeply penetrate each other, May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father. Amen.
Suggested activity: We’re all in this together. Be the one who encourages and befriends.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Hail Mary Pass
In football, a Hail Mary pass or Hail Mary play refers to a long forward pass, especially as a last-second attempt to score at the end of the game, where a completion has little chance of success. Who made this phrase famous? Dallas Cowboy, Roger Staubach, a Catholic, used this term to describe his game-winning 50-yard touchdown pass in a NFL playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings, Dec. 28, 1975. Afterwards, Staubach described the play to a reporter,
For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another.
