E-ticketing systemi in Tallinn PT

New ticketing system was launched on the 21st

of September 2012

Free PT for Talliners and students on the 1st of

Student Card or SEB ISIC Card instead of smartcard

Smartcard Ühiskaart is electronic contactless personalised or

non-personalised card to verify it´s holder´s travelling rights. Personalised

card is only valid with an identity document.

Smartcard can be replaced with some other contactless card (for

example, student cards), featuring a technology supporting RFID

standard.

▶From 1

st January 2013, all the international ISIC cards (contactless microchip), can be used to validate and verify travelling rights in public transport system of Tallinn and Harjumaa:

▶ISIC pupil and student cards,

▶ITIC teacher’s and IYTC youth cards, including ISIC Student ja ITIC bank cards,

available from SEB Pank offices.

▶Estonian student tickets, issued by the Federation of Estonian Student Unions and

Estonian pupil cards, including a microchip, can be used in the same way.

Smartcard Ühiskaart, onto wich you can load money or

e-tickets, can be purchased from any of the sales points

listed at

www.pilet.ee

. 2€ deposit is needed to purchase

the smartcard.

Personalising a smartcard

Smartcard can be personalised i.e. linked to a particular individual. A

personalised card enables the holder to obtain discounts. Personalising a card

means that it is electronically assigned for use by a specific person, as in the

case of, for example, a bank card.

Cards can be personalised for just €1 anywhere they are sold, or

alternatively for free online (

www.pilet.ee

) or

in the public service office of Tallinn City Government.

Personalised cards can only be used by one person. Tickets purchased for

non-personalised cards, on the other hand, are valid for anybody who presents

the card.

Ticket prices for non-residents

▶ single journey paper tickets that you can buy from the driver when entering public

transport. Try to have exact money for the driver when purchasing these tickets.

▶Longer period of time (not more than 3 journeys) it might be more cost effective to get

the plastic (non-personalised) smartcard. This smartcard is easy to top up with money or travel cards and then to validate your e-ticket(s) at the start of each journey. One

smartcard can be used by different people (family members, colleagues etc.).

▶Your smartcard automatically calculates the cheapest fare for you within 24h (never

more than 3€ per day

Prices of Transport Tickets

With one smartcard you can purchase up to 5 additional e-tickets.

First touch the orange card reader with your smartcard, then choose by

using the arrows the number of additional tickets needed and confirm

by pushing OK and touch yor smartcard once more time. Touch your

smartcard on the orange card reader validator again to see number of

tickets valid on your smartcard.

Priced public transport

Non residents of Tallinn entitled the right of

discounted travel

(university students, pensioners, passengers aged 16 and over with severe or profound disabilities, and passengers who are parents of 3 or more children)

▶ Purchase a smartcard;

▶ In order to get a discount, personalise your card,

▶ In case the document that certify the right to discounted travel is only on paper

(ISIC Card), the salesman should be asked to issue a discounted card at a point of sale when personalising it or,

▶ on Internet www.pilet.ee/yhiskaart, tick a form in the box: "olen sooduspiletiga

sõitja ja tõendan sõidusoodustuse saamise õigust soodustust tõendava

dokumendiga" (“I am entitled the right to free travel and certify the right to free travel with a relevant document”).

▶ Load money onto the smartard or buy an e-ticket. It can be done at a point of sale,

with a mobile, or on Internet.

Free public transport

Residents of Tallinn

If you are registrated in Estonian Population Register as a resident in the city (with ID-card) you can use the public transport in Tallinn for free.

For that you need to:

▶ purchase the personalised smartcard (linked to your ID card);

▶ Personalise your smartcard online (0€) at www.pilet.ee/yhiskaart , at the sales points

(1€) or over the phone (0€) 11 800 (0,74 €/min).

▶ Note that you still need to validate your personalised smartcard at the start of each

Validation

When a smartcard Ühiskaart is validated, the validator checks that the passenger

has a valid ticket or the right to discounted travel. If the passenger does not have a ticket but has sufficient funds on their card, they are issued with a 1-hour e-ticket. If they do not have sufficient funds on their card, they are not permitted to travel – they must purchase a ticket from the driver or exit the vehicle.

How to use the validator

▶ When entering the vehicle, validate your e-ticket or right to free travel by holding

your smartcard against the validator.
